RE: Introducing the new 90-1.20 Yak QB
Mine, purchased in December 2012, came with that type of linkage. I know this, since it was the first time I had used the opposite threaded rods which I found out after trying to screw the clevis on the wrong way for 5 minutes. Amazing how well it worked when I went the other way! I found it interesting that with a LiFe battery and diodes to the ignition, my RCGF 26cc equipped model is tail heavy-after juggling items around.

Small package of baby wipes for the quick on the field wipe up in combination with the previously mentioned microfiber clothes.

RE: Small tuning issue
+1. To Firepower's post. In our club it has become standard procedure to plug one Pitts opening to get back idle. If you look at the area of the two openings in the Pitts and compare to the stock muffler you will probably have the equivalent of double the siz opening of the stock muffler. The engine runs at the high throttle because it pumps up enough back pressure to the tank to flow fuel. At lower RPM there is not enough to pressure to supply fuel=no idle. I cut small wooden or cork plugs to fit the opening, red RTV them in flush with the end, then drill a small hole in the side of the pipe to run a servo screw into the plug to secure. It is cheap and easily removable. Has worked on a couple of O.S. and Super Tigers with Pitts. Good luck!

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
+1 for the last two posts. Ripped hinges on ailerons and elevators-monocot hinge gap seal saved the day. 4-40 rod and ball linkage replaced original hardware when GSS built and have not had issues. Tailwheel lasted 4 flights-now Sullivan. All these issues were with just an RCGF 26 for power. Changed to Fox 40 and replaced parts holding up good until Fox ralphed a bearing. Now awaiting repower. Love the way it flies!

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
Muttdog- castings on some RCGF's were questionable. I didn't machine the standoffs, mine gave me the correct distance to the prop backplate. Some of the bolts at the engine end were twisted and unusable. Firewall end held up without any signs of stress. Cowl showed only some minor gel coat stress cracks. I like your idea of testing on the stand for extended time. I did run mine without cowl for about 1.5 hrs airtime and checked bolts-no loose ones. I'm leaning towards bad/weak casting. Going to attempt to avoid bad arrivals in the future, since this is my favorite flyer in my fleet! Good luck!

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
Muttdog- I did the same thing with the supplied standoffs on my GSS when I mounted my RCGF 26cc and it worked greatinitially. I had an unplanned orientation on arrival (read that as somehow managed to stall a GSS and hit the left wingtip and it pushed over onto the nose). I thought there was no damage in the engine area, but upon examination, three of the four mounting ears on the crankcase had twisted off. I still don't know if I should blame the extended standoffs for increased twisting torque or poor casting on the RCGF. I switched to a well used Fox 40cc that was great until it digested a bearing. Currently looking to repower, possibly my US 41 that is overtaxed in my Giant Aeromaster.

RE: Larger Revolver
That GP tailwheel looks like the one that lasted 6 flights on my Giant Super Sportster before it cracked at the solder joint and was replaced by a Sullivan unit. I believe it was brittle from the solder wrap heat and a grass field didn't help.

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
Mine lasted 8 flights before the metal fatigued and broke at the solder wrap. Replaced it with a Sullivan and that works great.

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
I put 3/16" Robarts in my GSS after hinge aileron failure last week. Lubed with melted Vaseline; glued with Gorilla glue. Dampened drilled hole with water; wiped one side of hinge with small amount of glue; pushed into moving surface; and then repeated for other side of hinge. Wiped up any drools with acetone while wet; then taped surfaces together with blue painters tape on both sides; and picked any dried ooze off with tip of utility knife after all cured.

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!
Just to reinforce some of what has appeared earlier in this thread, my GSS with a good RCGF 26 on it has 10 flights as of yesterday. On the 7th or 8th flight I noticed that slow ground handling started to resemble my 68" WWI Sopwith Tabloid with a tail skid-I blamed it on the wind. Found that the GP tailwheel control wire from the rudder had broken at the solder wrap. Metal fatigue for sure. Replaced it with a Sullivan unit I bought in case I needed it for up to 20lb planes. After yesterday's 10th flight with some aggressive snaps and tumbles, plus some flaperon experiments I found that the right wing inside CA hinge was torn in half and my Monokote gap seal was taking the load for that part of the aileron. GSS is now down for at least hinge replacement. Even with these minor teething problems (well outlined in this thread) this is one great, relaxing, fun to fly sport plane!

RE: *GP Giant Aeromaster $100.00 Off*
I thought there was an easy answer to your question, but the GP manual-available PDF online by searching for GP manuals-doesn't list the size as far as I can see. I bought mine used/assembled and the tank is way too large for the US 41 I have on it. It is at least 16oz, but I suspect 20oz, since it takes around 65 revolutions of my fueler pump to fill it (just counted the other day) and the instructions say approx. 1/3 oz. per revolution. Mine has an additional tank for TME smoke and is a bit of a porker. I'm going to try to put it on a "diet" this winter. Hope this helps you in some way.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
Beware that exhaust deflectors can be a double edged sword. I use them on a number of my planes without any real problems, but occasionally you might run into an engine that it acts like a tuned (or untuning) pipe. I have an old Tower .40 bushing engine (made by Thunder Tiger in those days I believe) it is essentially an OS .40FP clone. My OS .40FP loves an exhaust extension, but the Tower would not transition correctly with the extension. If it was correct for the low speed, it was too lean for high and if correct for high, it would load up and deadstick at idle. No adjusting of the needle or airbleed seemed to correct it until my friend borrowed the engine for one of his planes. Ran like a champwhat did he do? Took off the exhaust deflector. Got the engine back last year and put it on my GP Extra Special (that I finally finished after 7 yrs.). Would not run with deflector once again-same old problems. Took the deflector off-unstoppable! Just my $.02.

RE: lanier mariner MKI or MKII, how to tell???
Goop works well on the black windshield (if you can stand the smell while curing). Balance point from a MK I manual is 3 3/16" back from the leading edge (28% of wing chord) +/- 1/4". Note: Hard plane to balance. I used my Great Planes balancer and the high motor pylon (IMO) allows the plane to swing around the balance point easily. I went with what appeared to be a bit nose heavy and it flys/glides great (I know, because my first 6 landings were deadsticks due to fuel feed problems.) Seal the wing tip wires with silicone and any other potential opening. Make a silicone wing saddle mount seal with waxed paper or plastic wrap release material to prevent spray entry. (Watch especially for spray that lands on top of the wing and drips forward behind the black plastic windshield. I extended the silicone wing saddle sealing into this area. Check covering in tail area. I sealed all covering seams with polyurethane and liberally coated all control rod exits with petroleum jelly. I've only gotten water in the plane when I landed too fast with one wingtip low what a splash! Do they still call it a ground loop on water?

RE: OS engines users Club
Great thread! I picked up 2 OS 60 SR models from an estate sale. Both run great, but one is missing the needle valve from a 7B carb and it's a real pain to switch needles back and forth. Anyone have an idea where I could pick one up? Tried Tower's parts, but no go. Thanks.
