RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
lmaffia Most Impressive! Finally got some flights this morning. Getting used to landing it. Slight crosswind so it was good practice with the builder present. Kept first flight short, First landing, as I was taxying back, I noticed the left aileron servo horn fell off. I went back over ALL the servo horn screws and it looks like I did not tighten them down hard enough. I put Blue Loctite on the metal gear ones and flew another 2 flights. Plane flies beautiful. Rolls are like a 3D plane. I still need to weigh it cause I'm curious. Next time out I'm gonna work more on my landings. I'd like to get them really smooth.

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
thx, guy I got the plane from has a spare and I'm picking up this week. In the meantime, I found that a door hinge pin from Lowes is just under the correct diameter. A little slop but it should be fine on the grass runway. D

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Got back from a trip and was going to fly this morning. A buddy helped me fix a retract leak and coached me on the flight. One thing I did not do was check the grub screws on the axles. I now recall the builder telling me to loctite them down after I taxy test it. I did not have to adjust them and it slippe my mind. I had to belly land. Other than the missing axle (we found the wheel), the only thing was the wood prop broke on the belly landing. Scuff marks of course. I'm glad to get my first giant scall belly landing on my belt though :0 Anyone know where to get the axle pins?

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Pic of my New (to me) P-47. Just picked it up last night. I have a few minor things to do to it as well as program the radio before re-maiden. It is a TF GS P-47 ARF that a one Club member had, flew then sold to another club member who stripped it and then glassed it. 4000+ false rivits in it (I'll have to post some more photos to show it). Hitec Digitals, Zenoah G62. I will be getting a CF prop for it after a few flights.

RE: Vanessa c.g. Rig: How to.
OK, I built one of these with parts I had already. I wanted to test it and compare to the inverted dowl rods in a plank method. I'm comming up where my Measurement with the Vanessa is about 1/8" to 1/4" aft compared to my 2 dowl method. I know this plane is nose heavy. The MFG gives the CG measurements 200mm out from the nose, so I don't have a CG measurement closer to the fuse (yet). First time I did the Vanessa, I failed to pay attention to the requirement that the dowl be in line with the spar. I had it crooked and being all the way out 200mm from center, the CG measurement was way off due to the rotation of the dowl in the horizontal plane. I'm measuring level in both methods using a bubble level with the horizontal stab. I'm using that thick blue rope cause #1, that's what I had. #2, I"m going to be checking the CG on a Giant Top Flite P-47 soon. I also want to double check the CG on my WWI Balsa USA Nieuport 17 which I know flies like a dream. I have not sharpened the tip of the dowl plunge bob cause I figure I can judge center of a circle well enough considering I don't want to mark up my wing if the point hits it. I'll take care of the point later once I get confidence in the Vanessa. Anyone see what I'm doing wrong for these 2 methods not to match?

RE: Airplane rudder gyro
No one could argue that the rudder on my new Balsa USA 1/4 scale bipe is very stable w/ the GY520 on it. I chose to use Zeal Gel Tape See the mounting method described here: http://www.mycoolrc.com/gyro/GyroMounting.html

1/4 scale Balsa USA Italian Nieuport 17
Well, after a year of planning, building and fiddling. My commissioned airplane is now in my hands and flying. Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Nieuport 17. TriColour scheme. Italian Ace Fulco Ruffo di Calabria Still working on some videos of it but here are some pics from earlier this year during the build and the last pics with the different prop and dummy engine are from my first flights. It flies like a dream (for a WWI Bipe).

I used Krylon Matte Clearcoat stuff. Multiple Light coats. I think I did 3 or 4. Only like 10 mins between coats. Go on too much and it turns into more of what looks like an oil shiny coating.

I don't like Facebook for RC/Club use either. I don't know how it is restricted but people who are your "Friends" (which in my case is only relatives and college, high school buddies) can see what your posting. Plus my facebook account is really my houshold and not just me. Nothing is stopping someone from starting one, but I don't like the idea of it replacing RCU. RC is my GETAWAY from work and home life.....

RE: Airplane rudder gyro
I think if you put a in a Y connector and hook up a spare servo in parallel with the gain wire, you may enlighten yourself to what is going on. I can't explain based on what you are stating here. Something does seem missing from the equation though.

RE: Airplane rudder gyro
ORIGINAL: Night Scream Sadly no sub trims on chn.6.. Darn how did i set this gyro up in the first place to work flawleslly on this old radio and now I can't... been raking my brain and getting nothing :( Heck even tried setting up last night in a 7Cap.. and getting the same thing.. still can't truen the heading hold off.. and i place HH at 0-5% and sub trim in chn 5 all the way to either -120% or + 120% and the HH is still active no matter what.... How come it turns off fully in the JR and not in the futaba 7cap...
You need to set travel adjust in your "OFF" direction of the switch to 0. Then adjust the subtrim until the light turns off. Try experimenting visually, Hook up a small servo instead of the gyro gain, see if you can get that servo to move about the center point using subtrim. Look at the 2nd video on page below (I have the gyro gain and a servo all hooked up on a Y adaptor) Jump to 3:20 and you see how to set up a gear switch for RATE/OFF (note you need to be able to set up sub trim and a travel adjust on one side of zero) http://www.mycoolrc.com/gyro/switchprogramming.html Video 1 shows a basic instruction on how the gain signal works with Rate and Heading Hold mode.

RE: Airplane rudder gyro
I can't think of how to adjust it if you don't have trim/subtrim on ch5. Can you use the flap CH6 for your gain?

RE: Airplane rudder gyro
The thread is alot of reading. Instead just go here: http://www.mycoolrc.com/gyro/indexnew.html I fly rudder gyro on a few planes. Note how I use subtrim to get the TRUE center point of the gyro. I use a low RATE gain for the OFF position, not Heading Hold. On one plane, I use flaps so I have 3 positions. Rate, OFF, HH. That way I can reset the gyro if I want but still have it in RATE or OFF for takeoff or flying. I will itterate that I advise to use RATE MODE when first trying out a gyro, not Heading Hold. Rate mode is less risky for the newbie.

RE: FSA Clubhouse
Testing out new controller that holds attitude, compass direction and altitude. At the top, I was hands off. It holds altitude with a barometric pressure sensor and heading with a magnetic compass sensor. With this controller I have more confidence to go higher w/o it accidently flipping over or me losing orientation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVGC9mBbxrQ
