RE: Battery Selection and Setup for Converted Spitfire 90
Thank you so much for the reply. I don't have MotoCalc and the online version is somewhat confusing. Could you tell me if the following 16x6 prop would be more suitable? http://masterairscrew.com/16x6classicseriespropeller.aspx

Battery Selection and Setup for Converted Spitfire 90
I'm in the process of converting my Kyosho Spitfire 90 to electric and have a couple of questions. This is what I have purchased so far: E-Flite Power 110 Brushless Outrunner Motor http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/power-110-brushless-outrunner-motor-295kv-EFLM4110A Castle Creations Phoenix Ice 100 33.6V ESC http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVJN2&P=7 I've read that an 8S 5000mAh pack would be an appropriate choice. Would you guys agree that's a good choice for this setup? My charger is only capable of charging up to 4S 5000mA balanced charging. Is it correct that I should buy two 4S 5000mAh packs of the same type and wire them in series? Another question I have is that I've read on this size plane it's ok to use glow type props. I have a number of 18x12 Classic Master Airscrew props that both look good on the plane and sound terrific. That size seems to be within the prop spec of this motor, but I realize it will have to work harder than with electric props. Is it advisable to use them? Should I go smaller on the prop if it's a nitro prop? Thanks for the help!

RE: Large electric warbirds 60 size plus,,,lets see em
Some wonderful planes in here! Just thought I'd pop in and say hello since I love big warbirds and my club's flying field has recently gone electric only. I will be converting my Kyosho Spitfire 90 in the near future from 4 stroke.

RE: Help with my 6-15 volt 25 amp Pyramid
Here's a link to my exact power supply. http://www.buyreliant.com/pyramid-ps26kx-25-amp-power-supply/ Truth is I'm a nitro guy mainly, but recently my local flying field has gone electric only. I love the field so I finally have to fall in line with the other electric guys. I'm in the process of converting two 40 size planes to electric. I'm using 4s 4000mah 25c packs for those. I'm also going to be converting a 90 size Spitfire so I'll either have two batteries in series there or one very large one. This charging choice may help me decide to equip it with a single larger battery there. Thanks a bunch for that link. It's awesome! Thank you for the continued help

RE: Help with my 6-15 volt 25 amp Pyramid
I'm really getting excited about this unit here: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14743 Able to charge 2 large packs... as large as I'd ever need at 1 to 3C I believe from the specs it would be perfect for my power supply running wide open at 15v 25 amps delivering the power this would need to charge any packs. Would I be correct that my power supply would be an excellent match for this unit?

RE: Help with my 6-15 volt 25 amp Pyramid
Thank you so much for the response. I am now looking at this Turnigy 4x6s: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__11170__Turnigy_4x6S_Lithium_Polymer_Battery_Pack_Charger.html It says AC mains PSU (>200Watts). Shall I assume that means this is really four 50 watt chargers? Also, I have a bunch of various size balance plugs for my current Equinox balancer. It looks like the plug on the Equinox side is the same as their "balance boards". Would you know if that's true so that I'd be able to use them with this unit? Thanks again for the help.

Help with my 6-15 volt 25 amp Pyramid
Greetings. I've recently aquired a new Pyramid 6 to 15 volt 25 amp power supply. I already had a Triton Jr and balancer that I was previously using with a car battery. So far the two are working great together, but I have a few questions. I've been running the voltage around 14 volts since the Triton Jr handles 12 - 15. Will running the voltage up nearer the 15 volt limit charge LiPos any faster than at 12 volts and is that recommended? Can I run two or more chargers like the Triton Jr from this single power supply at the same time? Charging different size LiPos at the same time from it? If I buy another charger to add to this setup is another Triton Jr a good idea or are there better options now? Currently my largest packs are 4S 4000mAh 14.8v 25C for my 40 size planes. Any other advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help!

RE: Yet another Sig Something Extra Build
Thanks Iron! The maiden went great. Always nice to bring a plane home unscathed. I need to get a scale... no idea what she's weighing. I got a great deal on a new Saito FA-62a so I had hoped it would be enough engine. She's certainly no speed demon with it. I'm using a 14x4 prop at the moment and she'll hang on it but no pullout. I'll probably drop to a 13x6 to get better airspeed. The taller gear is wonderful for not having issues with prop hits and the extended rudder makes for a nice knife edge. Overall I'm really happy with the plane, but a 72 or 82 would have been nice in the power department. Perhaps I can sneak another engine past my wife at some point [;)] Looking forward to further reports on your build. I just check here from time to time to see if you've done anything hehe. I know yours is going to be amazing when it's completed.

I finally got my Saito powered Sig Somethin' Extra kit build finished. Lots of mods including custom cowl, landing gear, extended rudder, graphics. She should get a maiden this weekend. Thanks for the advice I got earlier from you guys! She's spinning that 14 x 4 prop at 10,000 rpms (Saito 62a).

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I know this is a really noobish question, but I'm going to ask it anyway... Is it normal for the exhaust to get pretty tarnished looking under normal operation? I've run 6 tanks through a new engine gradually leaning it as I go and I'm hitting around where the engine should be now, but that exhaust is lookin pretty bronzed. I'm not letting her get too hot am I? Thanks for the help!

RE: Yet another Sig Something Extra Build
BTW... my SSE has really come together nice and is more than half covered at this point. My mods are a custom fiberglass cowel, TNT landing gear (which are awesome and give enough prop clearance for a 14"), and an extra 1.5" on the rudder. I also thought about doing pull-pull but got lazy hehe.

RE: SSE Racing Plane?
ORIGINAL: sparky577 By the way, that's NOT my plane in the pic. I saved it from the photo gallery so I could upload it here to show you what I mean. It looks like a racer to me, but the airfoil's obviously too thick.
So who does that plane belong too? It's an excellent example of a nicely modded SSE.

Morning all I'm with you Georgia guys. I'm very glad I settled down here in Nashville! It's wonderful to have decent flying days year round. I lived in Minneapolis for a while and I don't miss the weather on the ice planet Hoth one bit! Now I just need to finish these projects so I can get my two new Saitos running.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
ORIGINAL: w8ye I have a Turbo Header on my Saito 56 that is on a Hanger 9 Ultra Stick 40. It has the flaps on it also. I run a APC 13-4 prop. It has plenty of vertical. I really like the combo.
Man, I'm really glad to hear that. I don't think the SSE is weighing alot more than that. I've done what I can to keep her as light as possible (although I did extend the rudder a bit). If I can get a couple hundred more rpm out of the turbo header I might really have a decent setup with the 62a. I don't know if I really care about a dramtic pull out of a hover, but I'd like to try my hand at hovering at some altitude.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
ORIGINAL: blw It depends on what you want to do with the SSE. At my field, we had sport flyers and 3D flyers with them. For 3D I would suggest Dubro featherlite foam wheels. A mini servo for throttle. And, a fuel tank somewhere around 8-10 oz. You are going to have prop clearance problems with anything over 12". I made a 1/2 inch block for my main gear and still could not level the plane on the ground with a 12.25" prop.
Hhhmmm... that's going to be tough. I purchased taller gear from TNT for it but I don't think it's even an inch taller. I have a 13x6 prop I was going to use and since w8ye suggested the 14x4 I'd hoped to try that too. Guess I'll have to see how it goes. On the power end, I thought about trying one of those "turbo header mufflers". Anyone have/like those?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hi all. I recently purchased two Saito engines for my winter projects... an fa-62a aac and an fa-125a aac. I've run them both on a bench and I'm very impressed. Mainly just wanted to pop in here and say hello, but I do have a question about the smaller one. It's going on a Sig Somethin' Extra that I've nearly completed kit building (40 size). I would like to begin to learn some 3D on this plane and I wonder if I've gone a bit shy on the power. Any tips/mods for getting the most out of the small engine? Thanks!

RE: Kyosho Spitfire 90 1/6th scale
Sweet Kentucky... good luck on the retracts. The stock retracts always seem to be the weekest part of every warbird I've looked at. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get them dialed in as well. I'll be practicing landings with my other planes alot until I get my Spitfire air worthy. We have a very nice paved runway so I'm hoping if I can bring her down nicely enough I won't have issues with them.

I'll blame you guys if the wife gives me any trouble about buying the plane. [:)] I've only been flying for a year and haven't flown anything larger than a 40 size. I'll bet on the maiden you won't be able to fit a pin up my *** with a jackhammer!

RE: Yet another Sig Something Extra Build
ORIGINAL: mikenlapaz deadpetal- Could you post a couple of pics of the cowl on the plane? Looked at the site for pics, no joy. Thanks
I haven't finished building the fuse yet, so it isn't on the plane (or even prepped and painted at all yet). I'll try to remember to snap a pic of it though when I get home. It isn't a large cowl so I plan on inverting the engine so that the top just sticks out of the bottom. That way it'll look smooth on the flight line (I hope).

RE: Yet another Sig Something Extra Build
Awesome build Iron... I can't wait to see how this plane turns out. I look in here every couple days. It's very unique! I'm in the process of building an SSE too, but it's a bit more standard. I am using a fiberglass cowl though that I obtained from Fiberglass Specialties and I'm augmenting the tail feathers. I really hope you'll be able to shoot some video or at least some good pics during your maiden flight. Cheers! Jeff
