RE: Are there constant load servos for flaps?
It is not clear to me. What is holding the flap in the up position? Is it being held in place by air pressure with no load on the servo while flying because it is seated in the wing? Is the linkage in a straight line at both the up and down position? - Brian

RE: Giant Scale Flying Fields, Nashville, TN?
The fabric laid down is a little over 400'. The grass strip next to the fabric will be about 600' when it grows in.

RE: Giant Scale Flying Fields, Nashville, TN?
Hi, I joined the Murfreesboro club last month so that I could use their new field. The club just recently lost their old one. I just left there about an hour ago. It's great. The plus side of the field is that it is all trees that may reach out for airplanes have been removed. The club really went to town to make a big field. The runway is covered with fabric. The only down side is that the field was just completed about a month ago and the grass has not grown in around the runway and some of the other areas. So if it is wet, you will get some red clay on your wheels. Of course you could just stay on the runway. My tires have a little red clay . - Brian

RE: TROY BUILT MODELS
I don't have anything to say about any retailers and just want to talk about the cost of shipping. I am an independent courier and have a contract with a company that does deliveries for some retailers; some may be ordered online. The company is not UPS or Fedex. On small boxes the company often loses money on the delivery. Other deliveries subsidize the small box deliveries that are out in the boonies. Say an18" X 18" X18" box pays the driver $5 to deliver. If the box is in a busy area or an area that is close to civilization, the driver makes good money along his route. But say that the address is 15 minutes away from a major drag and there are no other deliveries in the area. That is a 30 minute round trip plus his gas at 12 miles to the gallon. A driver cannot make money if he has too many of those boxes on board. So, the driver cherry picks his deliveries, and nobody blames him. The company is going to have to call a courier like me to deliver the box. I am not going to a warehouse and pick up a load of boxes at 2 to $5 a box and deliver them out in the sticks. I am going to charge a bit better rate by charging by the trip. The company that handles the deliveries looses a fair amount of money on those deliveries when considering the slim profit margin after payroll and overhead. If you live out in the sticks and are receiving small boxes, you are getting a really really good deal. - Brian

RE: Wing MFG pro series F6F Hellcat
I built the kit a few years ago but no longer have the manual. If I remember correctly, legal disclaimer, the fuselage is built as a teepee. Mark the positions of the formers on the fuselage sides using the plans. Then, set the firewall on the building board and attach the fuselage sides to it, and build up from there in a teepee fashion using the former marks that you put on the sides. -Brian

RE: Meister Japanese Zero build thread
Here is a book that is out of print but is still available. Zero Fighter by Robert C. Mikesh with illustrations by Rikyu Watanabe. ISBN 0-51754260-9. It is one of those shallow coffee table books but has heavy gloss paper with good illustrations and profiles. Plus it goes over changes made by model. I have had it since I was a teenager. I put it away when I discovered chicks and cars... Now I'm back at RC airplanes. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=0-51754260-9 There are two good illustrations of the cockpit. One shows gauge detail with Kanji character markings on the controls. The other shows the names of the instruments and controls by reference number on the page. There is also a drawing of the Type 98 reflector gunsight.

I am not sure if this is the information that you are looking for. Here is a website that contains plot points for many airfoils. I could not find one for the F-104 bioconvex 3.6% http://www.ae.illinois.edu/m-selig/ads/coord_database.html Other than to read papers and look at pictures that I can't really understand and sound knowledgeable, it is all that I came across. The F-104 is listed as bioconvex 3.6%. My simple mind can understand Wiki, but I am not sure if that counts. http://www.ae.illinois.edu/m-selig/ads/aircraft.html

OK. I have to admit. I thought that the thread was about an RC scale meet. When I started to watch the planes take off, I thought, "WOW. Those guys are really good pilots and their planes are very close to scale. Those models almost look like the real thing." After about thirty seconds, I figured out that the planes are 1:1 scale. RE: Bearcat American Eagle
I don't see what needs to be finished. The plane is impressive. Did you have to add much weight to the nose? I have a G 38 that mignt be marginal for power. Is the silver easy to see in the air? The American Eagle Bearcat is one of the planes that I have been thinking about for my next build. I have the American Eagle stand way off scale Spitfire that flies like an oversized sport plane once it's in the air. - Brian

The Me-109F did have a retractable tail wheel. It was then removed in the G version [/quote] True. The ME-109 shown in the film has struts on the horizontal stabs. It is probably an E since it was in service when flying against a Spitfire. The pictures that I have seen of Es don't have retractable tail wheels. The film isn't correct.

On a side but similar note, thirty years ago I had a Sig Kougar that would roll to the left when applying right rudder at full throttle. I figured that it was the large rudder mounted too far away from the longitudinal axis.

RE: A Lesson/Question on Torque - I Think
I know about inertia, acceleration, and horsepower from high school physics. I could not figure out how yaw was caused. I thought about slipstream hitting the rudder but didn't think that it had that much influence. I could feel superior in knowing that there is no such thing as centrifical <sp> force, but I would not admit out of shame that I really didn't understand why a plane a plane would yaw on take off. I now know that the guys at the field who explain it with such confidence really don't know either. Thank you for the explanation. The preceding comments are sincere. - Brian

Matching RLM 76 Lichtblau paint
I have found that Rustoleum green camouflage and dark grey primer are pretty close matches for RLM 75 Grauviolett and RLM 82 Dunkelgrun as is shown in the illustrations in the book "Bf 109 Late versions Camouflage & markings" by Krzystof W. Wotowski. I know different books show different shades. The problem is that the Rustoleum light blue does not come anywhere close to matching RLM 76 Lichtblau. I am thinking about using Testors spray cans for RLM 76 Lichblau but need to have a general idea of how far a can of paint goes. Does anybody know? I'll drop $20 in a heartbeat eating hot wings at a local establishment without thinking about it but am being cheap when it comes to paint. I may break down and buy a gun and spray latex. - Brian
