RE: INTEGY 1/8 iROCK
ORIGINAL: samguan intentionally hitting stuff that should tear stuff up?  That's wrong man! Integy aluminums are garbage!  But they should hold up to a rock crawler because they are slow.  But you have to realize that you DO NEED some durability in rock crawlers too.  Imagine crawling up a steep hill and the crawler falls down, there is a big impact force too.  There is also a chance that you could bend those crap Integy aluminums. If you want to defend Integy, that's fine.  But I believe they have made very bad reputations for themselves. It also sounded that you have never had any Integy products.  Try to put a good looking Integy wheelie bar on your truck and pull couple wheelies and you will see what happen.
from what I've seen first hand, the design is what brings out the flaw in the aluminum....I've got two integy motors, a full round of integy links for my crawler, and integy MSR10 shocks for it too, and haven't had ANY trouble, and have had the thing in some pretty scary spots, no wear any worse than the STRC links that were on before the integy ones, and no bending on either.... put an integy wheelie bar on the savvy and wheelie it? no problem, it's gonna bend, just like any non-braced aluminum plate design would, unless you used thick enough aluminum to weigh the rear down a bit, the reason the stock one doesn't...well, it does, but, because it's plastic it bends back before you realize it'd bent.... and as far as crawling up a steep hill and the crawler falling....I say you've got two issues there.... 1. if you're crawling something that you're gonna tip your crawler on and you're not within one tumble's distance, you're begging for something to break 2. if you're running a lexan shell, when you tumble the crawler, it should be what's taking the hits, my axles are completely under the body, the tires may take a hit but they're soft and will absorb it, and the shell will take the hit, but, again, it'll flex and absorb it. I'm not defending them by any stretch, I've seen plenty of problems, however, I've also noticed that each person complaining about it has found a common issue, it's most often the design, not the brand itself.

RE: PICS OF YOUR SAVAGES !!
ORIGINAL: jrock0012 Something like this, except i'm running the the tranny locked in first.
kinda, except that kershaw direct drive with the motor mounted forward will do away with the radio box, and it'll have just a servo mount on the side of the TVP to handle the steering.... and if I can get the ESC, motor, and lipo all under the top of the TVP's I'll probably come up with a lexan top for the TVP's so that it all stays clean when mudding lol I totally wanna get mine all sealed up so I can take it to the river and go mud bogging....and really trump the guys in their jeeps, since they've all got a serious dose of envy over my crawler too ;)

RE: PICS OF YOUR SAVAGES !!
ORIGINAL: etivac13
ORIGINAL: sharkattack99 this is the lastest pics of my converted savage x to electic.
what motor mount did you use? any other mods needed to convert to electric?
when I re-convert mine this time I'll be using stock SavageXL chassis plates, and using the Kershaw Designs Direct Drive Center Transmission, as long as it still has a slipper setup....with the mamba monster setup, there's not a lot of need for the full transmission, it makes a lot more potential for rearranging things, and it'll give you much better throttle response and driveablilty....(no need for the throttle servo anymore because the transmission is direct drive and the motor becomes brakes and drive, as well as forward and reverse, it'll actually free up a lot of space and weight....I plan on running mine motor forward so I can drop my 6S LiPo in the rear with the ESC being mounted wherever I can find a safe spot for it....

first mod for me was ditching the plastic links for metal, then a metal skid, then I modded steering a bit. But, before I was done with the metal links install I was adding my DX6i, my Mamba Max ESC, and Hobbico CS-170 steering servo to the truck, so.....I dunno, take your pick.....

RE: OFFICIAL AX10 Thread
if you steer far left or right, and the rear is trying to lift, I'd say there's something seriously too stiff on your setup, check it all out to see if your shocks are stuck or stuff like that, as far as box stock, which model, there's 5 (RTR, Rock Racer, Kit, RTC, SCX-10) and most of them come with different setups....
ORIGINAL: jt_2_5 I have a Rock Racer, I want to do a motor swap. will the stock ESC run a 55 Turn motor? Thanks
yep, without any trouble, remember, ESC's can handle larger numbers, just not lower usually
ORIGINAL: Wild Gopher I just bought my first crawler, a ARTR AX-10. Its stock with a Hitec 7955 servo, Novak Rooster and a 55t motor. I am, also using my lipo stick packs that I use in the slash. Its nice and all, but it needs help and I need advice. I added lead to the front and rear and it grips nice, but my articualtion seems stiff. I rolled over my slash and with my front wheel on the highest part of the body, the rear lifts off the ground. I see tons of pics where people are up on one wheel and the back is planted. How do I get my twist to free up? Thinner shock oil? Softer springs? Also, there are a few things i plan to do such as add the plate that goes over the front axle to nount the servo and a lipo pack, and also the triangle pieces to mount the radio equipment. Does anyone recommend a lipo pack to use? Since switching to all lipo I really dont wanna go nimh.
this is the one I'm buying....it's plenty large as far as capacity, I've got a non-saddle pack 5400mah on mine now and get 12+ hours of crawling per charge, I'd expect a 5100 would be fine as well. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=001695082&I=LXWUJ0&P=K it's not a 3S like some people are going to, but, that's fine, 2S is plenty of crawling umph for what I'm running....

RE: Help a beginner
you can mod them all, the kit is better because you can buy all of your mods before you start building and you can build the mods in as you go instead of it being a prebuild. the downside to a kit is that you must buy all of the electronics from scratch and the radio that comes with it is more than adequate as far as non-competitive crawling is concerned...

RE: Help a beginner
I've already got plenty of upgrades into mine, and I've had it for about a week and a half, maybe two....as far as the screw in weights inside the wheel, they may be a gimmick, but, the heaviest set of wheels I've found on RC4WD or any of the other crawler sites was at 9-10oz per wheel, and those venom ones weigh in at 1 lb aka 16 oz, a full set of all of the aluminum ones that're well weighted are 150+, those venom ones are 20 per pair MSRP (which means I can probably get them for 15) and the weight set is 55, which means that they're heavier and are under $100 for the full set, I vote save the money and get something that's just as functional, and put the money elsewhere... as far as my AX-10 goes... Spektrum DX6i Castle Creations Mamba Max Castle Creations CC BEC MIP Driveshafts STRC Aluminum Links Kit STRC Aluminum Skid Proline Flat Iron Tires (M3 Compound w/memory foam) Proline Ambush w/CGR Body Proline Rock Sliders Hobbico CS-170 w/Robotronics Aluminum Servo Horn front servo (stock one moved to the rear) Radioshack Plastic Hobby Box for the radio gear 5400mah 2S LiPo (soon to be replaced with a Reedy 5100mah 2S saddlepack) Aluminum Rear Steer Links (R2 2speed w/enclosed dig transmission at the end of next month, and whatever servos I need to drive it as well, and we're working on building a custom chassis and tuber chassis to bolt onto the custom TVP's) here's a pic of mine the other day before I did the rear steer, rock sliders, and right after I broke the front steering servo arm by slamming it into the rock just above the truck. Firmly believe that if I'd had rear steer I'd have still made it up that patch and at least to the flat it was almost on.... RE: Help a beginner
personally I've looked into all of them, there's up sides to all like someone else said, I sprung for the AX-10 RTC and immediately swapped all of the electronics out of it and put my own in, and did quite a bit of upgrading as well, had I known I was going to do all of that, I'd have just gotten the kit, but, oh well. A few high points on the various crawlers... SCX-10-it's a scaler, and the chassis is quite a bit more adjustable.... Losi Crawler - the worm drive axles and a dig stock out of the box is very nice, however, the gear ratio is obscenely low, which means it's very slow, of you're using a much faster motor to get some wheel speed Venom Crawler - this one I just looked at and am enthralled and will probably be buying some of the parts meant for it, the beadlock wheels have screw on weights inside where the foam goes, in either 1.5oz or 2.5oz increments, with the 2.5oz weights fully installed each tire weighs about a pound. Aside from that, the axles have a servo driven locker, you can tie it to a third channel and hit the switch to unlock one of the axles (or if you've got a 4 channel you could tie one to each of the axles) AX-10 - with a few different versions, you've got quite a bit of versitility as to what way you want to go, and the RTC comes with some good tires already, all you need to do is drill the rims so they'l let the air out....

RE: two stick setup?
well, I don't know how the others have done it but, I just went in and put the other strip in that it came with that gives it a bit of a ratcheting feeling, and tightened the springs up a bit, I don't want the throttle to automatically snap back to neutral, as I'll be crawling about 5 or 6 clicks forward where things are just barely starting to move, as I've found that it's got a ton of grip when I do things that way. as far as mixing it all, I got it figured out, I set mix 1 and mix 2 both to handle the rear steer function, the mix switch is set up to enable mirrored steering to allow tighter turning, one of the switches on the other side is set up to "crab walk" simply because I couldn't figure out a way to lock the rear up, I've got a few setting tweaks to try still because no matter what, the L/R on the left stick still will override whatever I've got mixed...

RE: two stick setup?
I'd certainly take any help you can throw me with it, with your setup, is there a way to reduce it from flip a switch from position A and it mirrors and B it's independant control to A it mirrors and B it's locked centered with no rear steer? (I ask because after reading the USRCCA crawler rules, if you have rear steer and it's not disabled, no matter what size and scale your crawler is, you have to run in super class, and TBH, there's little to no chance that I'll be getting an AX10 that's tweaked to be competetive with an 8th scale or larger crawler) as far as what stick's running what, I want the left stick's vertical axis for throttle and the right stick's horizontal axis, the rest of the setup is totally up to what needs to happen to make it work however it needs to.....(this is honestly where I wish they'd make a pistol grip controller for stuff like crawlers that's got more channels and is tweakable to whatever degree you need it to be....with on/off settings for each channel)

two stick setup?
what radio do you guys like for a dual stick setup and how're you configging it? I'm looking at probably going for a Spektrum DX6i (will be running 4WS, the R2 2-Speed transmission with dig, probably mounting the transmission backwards to get it to rear dig instead of front, as front wheel drive will be more beneficial when climbing than rear wheel only as I have a hunch front wheel drive with rear wheel locked or free spinning will help pull up the rock without flipping) any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Spektrum Problems and Questions....
I've got a DX3.0, and a DX3s currently, love them both, but, I pulled my non-telemetry RX (SR330) from my savage and put in my AX10 and after a day of running it with a 2S lipo running through a mamba max ESC it's being VERY problematic, glitching like crazy, reporting low voltage (when the batteries in the handheld portion are brand new and the lipo on the crawler isn't even down 1000mah) it's also reporting telemetry info when there's no telemetry units in use anywhere within over a half mile. I swapped it out for the rx that came with my DX3.0 (SR3000) and it works fine, however, I'm wanting it back on the 3S because there steering suffers with the max EPA is only 115% instead of the 150%, and it's fairly important on the crawler, as it's lacking a fair bit of reach without going to a longer servo arm, which I can't do because of clearance issues. I'd love any suggestions on how to fix the glitching on the SR330/DX3s. Second question is this, I'm considering a DX6i for my rock crawler because I need more channels to run my high/low, dig, and rear steer, so, I'll need at least 1 full channel, 1 3 position, and 1 2 position above what the throttle and steering are needed to be. Will the DX6i meet those requirements or do I need to consider looking at a different radio, and if so, what will I need to do? my preferred option would be a way to put the rear steer on an on/off switch that'll allow the rear steer to be proportionally matched (in reverse) from the front steering, if that's not an option, any possible ways to achieve something similar, and if still absolutely no option for that, I've found a module that'll allow something like that which only needs an A/B switch.....and then I'll need a way to make that work

simple question.....
I know this has been asked before, and I've seen a crazy amount of answers in each direction....so.....here it is (again)....is the Mamba Max waterproof/water resistant? I'm wanting to put it onto my new AX10 which I know will get wet, but, I'm not willing to risk ruining the esc, since it's being scavenged off of one of my TC's which I need functional too....(and the Axial ESC won't handle the motor or batteries that the TC is running)
