RE: 4.2 Fox engine info
Hense! Why it was so much easier for me to buy this engine...Made in America! When I asked the lady (Sharon) how many they had she said they had only one. Then she turned and said they could make one for me in just a couple of days otherwise. How do you guys like them apples!

Just so that you guys know...I just bought the Fox just now...thanks for the advise. Now what size prop do you think I should use on it?

RE: 4.2 Fox engine info
The thing is that I would have bought the brison....Major problems though. I spoke to Kangke and not only are they out of stock of that engine, but the heads to the engine have doubled! So, they don't know what is going on with that line of engine at this time.

4.2 Fox engine info
Well, I was really really close to buying a Taurus 4.2 until when I called them, they said that they will basically not be keeping these size engines in stock. He said based on the economy they were forced to do this. So now I am looking at the Fox 4.2. Does anybody have any good experiance with this engine? What kind of electronic ignition comes with this engine? Is it the type that you have to set the timing or is it set and you never have to touch it again? Also, this is going in a Top Flite P-47(Kit). What prop would you guys use on this bird with this engine? One more question.....stupid one, but I am not sure. The muffler comes with the engine, but on their website they have a muffler for 100 bucks. Is this the same muffler that comes with it or is it a better mufflers? Sorry for all the questions but I am just not sure. Chris

RE: Taurus 4.2 info
Truckracer, I am a little confused on what you are saying about the cranks in the engine? Are you saying that because Taurus uses the Sachs crank that it will not vary from taurus engine to taurus engine?

RE: Taurus 4.2 info
Thats pretty much what I needed to know. I have a brison 2.4 and really liked it, but I wanted to try something different. Also, my Brison vibrates like crazy!! So I thought that the taurus line might run a little better.

Taurus 4.2 info
Guys I am pretty much finished building a Top-Flite P-47 (Kit Version). I was wondering if anybody has any experiance with the Taurus line of engines and have had experiance with their 4.2 size engine? The reason why I am looking at them is because the brison 4.2, based on their website produces 30 pounds of thrust while the Taurus produce 36 pounds of thrust. Tell me what you guys think of this engine. I have been doing some research on this line in general and they seem pretty damn good. But, I haven't really found anybody that has experiance with their 4.2. Thanks

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
On mine the right cabane has broken due to vibration for the second time. I have had it for about 2 years now. The Plane flys absolutly beautiful though. It looks great in the air and mine has a brison 2.4 in it. So power is pretty damn good.

RE: TF P-47 Kit...Covering
Now, my other fear is that I have never fiberglassed before. There is countless amounts of forums and how-to's on it. When you inexperianced in glassing like me though...I have a feeling that it is going to come out much more heavy then what it should be. I mean, how is this model coming in so heavy....above the specs......and it is not even covered yet? Maybe I am weighing everything wrong, but it doesn't seem right.

RE: TF P-47 Kit...Covering
Your absolutly right about them going over it in the manual. Do you think that it would be better for me to monokote at this weight? Because it is so heavy for some reason. I am trying to figuer out what I did in order for it to come out so heavy. Or would the fiberglassing be a better idea.

TF P-47 Kit...Covering
Fella's now that I am finally finished building this P-47 I need to cover it. I also just found out that a ARF version is now being produced...which really upsets me because of the amount of time it took me to build it. But, whats done is done. What should I cover this with? Right now it is coming in way heavier then the ARF...with an engine it will come in at 22 pounds without the covering. Am I able to monokote this to keep down the weight? Because I will do this over fiberglass any day...what do you guys think?

Power System Sport Plus Regulator
I have a quick question about the Power System Sport Plus and the regulator built into it. I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the regulator for power going to the servos? I hooked up a meter to it and it is reading about 5.5 volts. Is there a way to raise it or lower it? I want to try and bring it up to 5.9volts. Or is this unit not able to have the voltage adjusted?

MSA-10 programming question
I am having a problem with my MSA-10 that I know is my fault but I do not know what to do about it. I have two servos hooked up into the unit and absolutly nothing is happening. I know this is not the unit because both the MSA-10's that I have are both doing nothing. The red light is on and everything. The question is this...I do I get this to work. I have had no problems previously with these units but for some reason I cannot figuer out what I am doing wrong to get these servos to move. I have read the manual for them and I just cannot seem to get this working. I have set it to 0 and 9 to see what happens and the servos still do not move. I have even tried resetting the unit and still I cannot seem to figuer out what I am doing wrong. Tell me what I must do in order to get this to work Thanks Chris

Power system and regulator question
Fella's this is a technical question that I am having a little problem trying to figuer out. I have a Top Flite Giant P-47 that is running 10 servos. This includes all Hitec servos consisting of: 5 5645 Link this word and every other one like it in our forum to YOUR Website! Digital MG servos- Rudder, ailerons, elevators 2 5245 digital MG servos- throttle and cutoff 1 HS-82 - Retracts 2 645 MG - Flaps I will be running it off of 2, 2100 7.4 volt lipos with a 9 channel synthasized reciever. My question is this: Which regulator should I choose with this configuration? I will also be regulating it down to around 5.9 or 6.0 volts. Now I have done the math and I just cannot tell if this is going to work out. Maybe you guys can check my math as well and help me make a decision onto which regulator I should buy. Now if you guys have a completely different suggestion I am open to it. Reason why I say that is because people are also recommending the power systems. But, just like the last question...which one should I choose for this application. thanks for any help Chris

Smart Fly Super Regulator and Servos
Fella's this is a technical question that I am having a little problem trying to figuer out. I have a Top Flite Giant P-47 that is running 10 servos. This includes all Hitec servos consisting of 5 5645 Digital MG servos, 2 5245 digital MG servos, 1 HS-82 and 2 645 MG servos. The 5645 will be the rudder, ailerons, elevators, and rudder. The 645's will be the flaps. While the 82 and the 5245 will will be used for the retracts, throttle and cutoff switch. I will be running it off of 2, 2100 7.4 volt lipos. My question is this: The regulators I am looking at are from smart-fly and there are 2 types. The Super reg and the Turbo reg. The super can handle up to 7.5 amps and the turbo can handle up to 17.5 amps. With this setup will the regulator be able to handle all of this? They gave a fomula on the smart fly website and it goes like this: Ic=18/(Vin-Vout). Vin being voltage in and Vout being Voltage out the IC is the continuous current capability. The Turbo regulator for the Ic you would put into the fomula 42. I will also be regulating it down to around 5.9 or 6.0 volts. Now I have done the math and I just cannot tell if this is going to work out. I am getting out like 7.3 amps with this setup. Maybe you guys can check my math as well and help me make a decision onto which regulator I should buy. thanks for any help Chris

GS Top Flite P-47 Wing
Well I think I have made a mistake and the only way to fix it at this point is to either add more wood or take things apart. In the directions for the Top Flite P-47 constructing the wing, it states that I have to have the root end of the spar extend beyond the wing centerline approximately 1/16". Well I thought I did that but as I look at it I think that I brought it back a little short. Here are some pictures? Now if I did in fact cut it short can I add wood to bring it out a little?

GS Top Flite P-47 Fin and stab LE
Guys I think I made a major mistake in my P-47 build. When I glued the Horizontal stab and the Fin onto the fusalage I thought everything was lined up nicely. Evidently it was not...now I am sort of have a problem and I am not sure if I need to cut this thing apart now to fix it. Or this could be no big deal but for the most part I am not sure. The instructions read that they must be even with each other...but they are not. I thought they were when I glued them..but when I took a closer look they weren't. Tell me if you guys think I should take this apart...or even if I can sand the Fin to fit that would be great. I must say though that this thing is really glued on there good...so structurally it seems sound. I am just not sure if I should be making a big deal of this. What do you guys think? Here are some photos to help you out

RE: TF Giant P-47 elevator question
actually I have been using that same picture. I couldn't tell if he sanded that part or not until you just mentioned to me how to do it. Now..wont that make that area uneven where the sheeting goes if I sand the leading edge down to the ribs? Will it be too low in that spot?

TF Giant P-47 elevator question
While reading the instructions to the P-47 it states on on number 21: "If you haven’t done so already, trim the top edge of the elevator LE spars even with the top of the ribs. Glue the top elevator skins to the top of the elevators. As shown on the cross section on the plan, the beveled edges are on the inside." This all seems to make sense. Sand the leading Edge spars even with the ribs. Except for one thing that is getting me a little confused. The elevatore LE spars have a notch and the far end of them on top. It is where you put the inner root blocks of wood if that makes sense. Do I sand those down as well even with the ribs or I am just leaving them alone and sanding down the rest of the LE spar with the ribs? Because if I just sand the elevator LE spar except for the area with the raised notch, when I put the sheeting down on the elevator that spot will not be even at all.

Top Flite P-47 Stab Directions
Well you think because I graduated college recently that I could handle instructions but I am guessing now that is wrong. I have a few questions about some sections on this build. In the section on building the tail surfaces on numbers 11-14 I am stumped. Something so simple I am guessing yet it is not "clicking" in for me. The instructions state that I need to bevel the LE of the ribs to match the aft sweeping angle of the LE. Now I hate to ask this but I have read this over and over again. To me this means that I have not glued on the Stab LE's on yet. I will then sand the fronts of the ribs...top and bottom to match the whole rib..is this correct? Then on number 14 it states that I must use a razor plane and sanding to trim the top of the LE and the TE even with and at the same angle as the top of the ribs. Now, this means to me that I have already glued on the LE's as stated in Number 13. From there I will sand the LE's..not the ribs..to match the same angle of the ribs. Is this correct as well? Its also stating to do this to the TE as well. In this case is the TE of the Horizontal Stab or of the Elevators? Now for you TF Giant P-47 guys this is all probably very trivial but, I knew this was the only place for help because you have built this before or are presently building it. I plan on being on here very very often at the rate I am going.
