RE: power supply from a computer?
ORIGINAL: calvino
ORIGINAL: sheograth People who dont know jack about how those PSUs work will tell you that you dont need to load the 5v, but you do. If you dont, the meter will still read 12 but it'll drop when you draw a couple amps from it. Also, if the PSU has been recently used, be careful not to discharge any capacitors into your hand. Its not an urban myth or something, I've seen people loose fingers at work due to that sort of thing.
So, you need a ballst resistor of a few ohms, and many wats is the clue, you could use OHM's law to find out the resistance, kindof scary with loosing apendages due to caps, can we say, next mythbusters myth, lol
you dont need mythbusters to prove that lol i work on cars and the cap in a distributer carrys enough juse to make you feel it and i also have been building a mame arcade cab and the caps on the back of the old arcade monitors have enough charge to kill its no myth its truth
ORIGINAL: Taylor Shaw these arent sub C, they are M1 cells known to man as A123 li-ion, bullet proof fire proof and a very safe battery all around read the thread before a post! the only problem using lower turn motors on most tamiays is the fact that the gearing sucks i know most of them only have a few options (if any)for pinion and spurr compinations

RE: vintage rc official old school thread
ORIGINAL: dustinbleh hello.. i dont know if this is where i should ask about this or not, but i was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about this sprint car that i have recently acquired. i am always trading with people on rcu and in my local area, and when i was out trading with someone today i noticed he had this in his shed, and he threw it in for free. the motor is an os, and it says CZ on the side of. it doesnt mention a size or anything like that. its in decent shape, but it needed alot of cleaning/ lubrication. there were a few rusted screws here and there, but i was able to replace them from the vast amount of excess screws that i have collected since being in the hobby. anyway, as i was saying, any info would be greatly appreciated. thank you!
its a rc 10 conversion all the parts on it are rc10 buggy parts but its on a custom sprint car chassis these were verry commont kits back in the day and several companys still make rc10 sprint car conversions corcam as for your traxxas rebuild can u post some pics of the car so we can take a look at what your dealing with im shure a new servo saver can be made to work but im unshure about the car you have (im a associated guru)so some pics might hep us all have a better understanding of what u need mabey another car uses the same setup
ORIGINAL: coolbean Hey guys, Here is my newly acquired RC10T. The TX is a Futaba FP-T2PBKA Magnum Junior. RX is Futaba RP-R112JE. ESC is Tekin TSC 411-P2. Motor is Trinity Green Machine 2 (Don't know how many turns) and a 7.2V NiCd 1500 mah battery. It's running an all bearing stealth tranny which I just tore down, cleaned and greased. Everything looks in good shape except the brushes and gear on the slipper clutch looks a little worn. Any advice for me on this setup? RE: Evader EXT Arrived (Pics)
ORIGINAL: azmike2 I got one for my son for Christmas, I think it's great for the price, he's been having a blast with it. But we busted one of the plastic shocks already and I don't have a replacement the right size. Anybody recommend a good metal replacement shock? Mike
perfect example of y its cheapo buy one for 100 $ and spend 300 more to make it a descent car y do that when u can spend 250 and get a good car to begin with (or even 160 and get the original evader) great for young kids to have fun with but in no way close to the original for full on speed and racing (the original evader is a exact copy of the losi xx t wich is a well proven race car that thing looks like half traxxas half evader (traxxas are great bashers but are way frar from being racers)

RE: Evader EXT Arrived (Pics)
it looks to have way cheaper plastic( and from reviews seems tthe parts are breaking allot more than original evader) no ball diff and cheapo motor (the motor on the side of the box looks like a cheapo traxxas or tamiya stock motor at least the first evader came with a real epic motor) the car as stated by my local hobby shop is verry low end rc and designed for beginers and young children(and they are going to stop carrying it due to returns ) so far there is one big problem with some of the tranny gears being out of round + the thing just looks like junk i have a regular evader that i had to replace every part on with losi or associated parts and it was way beter built to begin with than that thing esp after seing real pics of it instead of the ones on the box like i said i guess it will be great for yong kids to get into the hobby since the price is cheap but id never waste my money on one esp after the pics u posted looks like some chinese knock off of an original evader lol but thats just my opinion im geared more twards racing and durabilty not back yard thrashing and cheap so it would def not be the car for me i still thing traxxas elect cars suk cause they have plastic motor mounts (people still luv their rustlers and pedes tho lol)so its all on what u are into please keep this thread updated and let us know how well it runs id like to see the reviews to be proven wrong but from the pics u posted it really does look cheapo

RE: Evader EXT Arrived (Pics)
ahhh that thing looks worse than the first evader it looks like a traxxas car but with even cheaper plastic lol and no ball diff man usually rc car companys upgrade their cars eith new models but man duracrap is now def on my poop list now i see y my local hobby sells them for 109 $ and sells the original evader for 169 and told me not to buy a ext cause they wernt going to carry them any more due to how bad they were (i almost bought one but im glad i didnt now) im shure they will be great for litle kids and beginers but man that thing just looks cheap ive seen walmart cars that had tougher looking plastic

RE: off-road motors
speed gems motors are the way to go orion are junk ive had several speed gems motors from 27-9 turn for over 5 years and no proplems (only had to have the com cut on one other than that its just been brush replacments)and belive me i like speed so im way geared and run 7-8 cell bats (thank goodness for my vintage tekin 410 and 411 esc's they are tanks) i have owned several orion motors 15-10 turn and every single one have burnt up my 10 turn i bought fried during break in with no load on the motor (just on bench with bat connected )it seems that every one smoket the coating on the wires wraped around the comm and hence shorted out the motor (boy did they stink ) other good high quality motors are the reedy motors(esp if u can find any mr. t or mr b motors or any of the pulse line are great) i own the nitronite its a awsome motor great speed and a verry tough long lasting motor mine is 2-3 years old and still as strong as the day i bought it

RE: old fuel?
lol i just found out the hard way that fuel does not like cold i had a cheapo smartech buggy (actuall a excell model winner 3) well it never ran right and always ended up breaking every run so i put my can of fuel and the car in the garqge about 6 months ago (keep in mind no ac or heat in my garage) well i just got a revo in trade and it had a half a tank of fuel in it so i was out making shure everything ran and such well made it thrue most of the fuel it had in it and got my old bottle out to top it off so i could keep running well 2 min later (about when the fuel that was already iun the car ran out)poof it died and wouldent start checked everything glow plug was fine everything els checked ut so i assumed it had to be the fuel so today i made a trip to hobby town and picked a small thing of traxxas fuel and after dumping out the old fuel and priming the car it fired right up i had heard that fuel goes bad in cold weathe r(it can gell) but from the loks of it it looked fine wasnt thick or anything like that long story short im back and running but what a bad way to spend the first nice day in a month running my new car for 10 min and then having to pack everything up cause no good fuel [:@] man there has to be some kind of way to test fuel they have it for real gas they have it for av gas (wich actuall contains some of the same stuff as nitro fuel /im a airplane tech/ and u can test racing fuel for its alcho9l content)
