RE: common cylinder liner material?
Does anyone know what lining BME Xtremes use? Cheers, Andrew.

RE: First Giant Scale 3D Gasser?
Do not shift the motor mount location to the side! That will throw your thrustline WAAAY outta wack. It must be put in the right spot. My recommendation is purchase a "pitts wraparound" muffler. There are many available for the DLE55. That will put the dump behind the engine rather than to the side, so no cowl hack required. There are many to choose from, here's one to get you started. http://www.jtecrc.com/wraparoundpittsstylemufflers.htm Cheers, Andrew.

Tips for removing the jug?
Got a Brillelli 46 that has lost 5 or 600 rpm. When I crank it over by hand there is a "clicking" at TDC. After pulling the plug and looking in I see quite a bit of carbon buildup. I'd like to pull the jug and see about cleaning her out. Having never done that, I'd appreciate a few tips. Also, will I need to replace the rings if I do take the piston out? Cheers, Andrew.

RE: Smart Fly?
Closing the throttle or choke does not reliably kill Electronic ignition engines Eganwp. Get the SmartFly optic kill or something like the 42% products kill. Opening the circuit for the EI ALWYAS kills the engine on demand. Plus the fact that you can set a failsafe so the engine kills if you lose your radio link is prudent as well as responsible. Seeing a big gas plane flying away from you under no control is a sinking feeling you never want to experience... Cheers, Andrew.

RE: whats your favorite spinner?
Tru turn spinners are indeed great. I run a red anodized one on an Extra, looks sweet. As far as what to choose, here is something to factor in to your decision.... On multi bolt prop setups the back plate and prop both need to have the multi holes drilled. Fine. Now some of the fiberglass and carbon spinners (including the aforementioned NoLimitz) attach to the backplate via bolts around the circumference of the cone. What this means is that every prop MUST be drilled in the EXACT same location as the first or the slots on the spinner cone will not line up to the blades. I advise you to look at spinners with a single center bolt rig. For aluminum-Tru turn is top notch. TBM or Azure Hobbies both have nice center bolt Carbon spinners. The lightest Carbon spinner is probably a Petes Models, and they are excellent too, but they require the positioning indexing as described above. Hope this helps, I've as seen a few people wreck a prop by not factoring in the bolt positions before drilling their fancy new prop. Cheers, Andrew.

RE: Introducing the new 100cc Edge 540!
Hey Rocco. Getting ready to order my 100cc Edge from Hi-Flight (when they land there) and I have a couple questions. Does the stock kit come with the cool "ripped carbon" graphics on the wing/stab, or is that a separate item? I also want to order the carbon tail wheel and carbon tubes, can I also get those from Hi-Flight? Or do I need to go directly to you? I've previously ordered a 260 direct (love it to death BTW) but sure would like to skip the cross-border duties and shipping if I can. Also, I've read through the manual, but cant see any reference to servo arm size for ailerons and elevator? As I want to order as much at one time as I can, can you please confirm whether or not 1.5" arms will be suitable for both? If not what do you suggest? All 7955's except a 7950 on the rudder with a 3" double arm is my plan. Cheers, Andrew.

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
I use a Brillelli 46 on the 260 version of this. For sport flying, sure the 36cc will haul it around, with some creative CG tweaking. The 46 has just enough for effective 3D, so don't expect much punch for 3D from the 36. Cheers, Andrew.

BME 116 /stock muffs, spin a Mej 26x12 3 blade?
Considering a Mej 26"x12"N-3Blade in front of a BME 116 Xtreme to pull the AW 100cc Edge. Will the 116 perform well with it? I understand 3 blade props are usually smaller than the equal 2 blader, and as such reduce punch. However I saw a vid of an AW 300 with a 26" 2 blade, it looked pretty good. Shouldn't a 3 blade of the same diameter provide at least the 2 blade's performance? (assuming the engine can spin it sufficiently - hence the question...) My reasoning is the BME has a good bit more power than the average 100cc, so perhaps I can swing a 26" 3 blade effectively and get the cool factor up front. With this powerplant and airframe, will I get an effective 3D/precision mix off this combo? I know there are a few 116's out there - sure would like to hear from you. Cheers, Andrew.

RE: Improved performance on gasoline engines.
...All true. But you can increase the effective thrust of your engine with proper prop selection. What engine are we talking about? What airframe is it on? What prop are you using? What do you want: thrust? speed? A lil info may help select a more effective prop. Cheers, Andrew.

RE: Good cutoff for 1st gasser
Use the stand-alone smartfly unit as described above David, you don't need a whole power expander rig for a Cub though. The stand-alone is inexpensive, good value, has excellent features and is very very robust. **Not all gas engines reliably cut from throttle or choke - all gas engines (with electronic ignitions) reliably cut from a smartfly, plus the failsafe feature will cut your engine on a signal breakdown when no further instruction can be relayed to the plane. I use it on my 10c attached to the center VR dial - that way I cannot kill the engine by accident, as it requires a purposeful turn of the dial to disengage the ignition. Cheers, Andrew.

RE: New 35cc Extra 260!!!!!!!!!!!!
That 3 blade Xoar sure looks sweet Super08. If you are pulling to the canopy it sounds like you are too CG forward. I had to tweak my 260's CG back myself. Have you done the 45deg upline inverted test for CG yet? Cheers, Andrew.

10c programming help please
Hi Bax and Krysta. I currently use a 10c with a flap function (both ailerons actually) connected to VRE (the right index slider). This allows me to use the slider one way for flaps and the other way for spoilers. I would like to assign SWH (trainer switch) to a spoiler function. So when the switch is held up both ailerons flip up a predetermined amount. (ailerons are on 2 channels) If it's an either or situation, I wouldn't mind losing the VRE function in favor of the spoiler function I'm inquiring about. Can you please give me some advice on how to go about setting this up? Regards, Andrew. PS: Still absolutely love my 10c - and I've never had 1 twitch or glitch from my original 14ch receiver either. :)

RE: Introducing the new 100cc Edge 540!
Thank you Mark. Yep, 45 is a great baseline. But it's nice to hear the bevels do 50-55 as I'm a waterfall junkie and I like 'em tight. You guys at Aeroworks gotta stop building such great airframes... If I end up with the 100cc Edge and the 100cc Extra 300 I'm gonna get dumped by the boss. ;) Cheers, Andrew.

Quick question please Rocco. As the horizontal stab-elevators are pre-hinged and glued, the maximum throw angles are fixed in balsa.. so-to-speak. Can you please report the maximum degree deflections on the elevator of the 100cc Edge for me? Cheers, Andrew.

RE: my 1st giant, set up questions
Get the 7955s f5air, you will never regret it. Here's my story: Started with giantscale using 5645s based on a sinergy review. Developed "slop" in the gear train very quickly, as such i lost confidence in their ability to deliver what my instructions to my plane were - they didn't survive my first giant scale crash. Then I went with 5955's and 7955's. These servos are strong, fast, center well and do not develop "slop". Get titanium gear servos - mine are like new and have gone through trees, pancakes, dead sticks and all the other nasty stuff that you hope won't but always does happen. Yes, they are great if you decide to move larger - that's a plus. Yes, they are fast and strong - that's a plus. The gear train is precise in a way few others are and it stays precise - that is invaluable. You will not lose your confidence that the servo is doing what you tell it to do. Helps move your skills forward. *** Oh btw, DEFINITELY get the kill switch as recommended above. I run the smartfly too, aside from the stated "emergency cutoff", its just darned handy to be able to kill your plane elegantly as it taxis off the field. On the airframe thing. You can't go wrong with your two finalists. I have not owned a WH plane yet - but I know enough about their service and build to say they are a good option. On aeroworks, I currently fly an AW 260. Man, let me tell ya - I have beat this plane worse than anything I've ever owned. 20 foot hover deadsticks - high alpha crunch landings - hangar rash and countless other flubs. It is unquestionably the toughest plane I've owned - and I have owned a lot of reputable planes. For me the nod goes to Aeroworks - not because of a hugely greater quality - but because of the robustness their planes have personally shown me during my 3d learning curve. Cheers, Andrew.

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
If you got em fly em. They will work, they just won't deliver all the the plane itself is capable of. Fly it with those, get used to it and then when you upgrade your servos you will be that much better. Cheers, Andrew.

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
7955's are the new incarnation of the 5955's. A bit stronger, a bit faster, and double the resolution. They are also approved for 7.4 volts as I understand it. A thoroughly reworked servo. If you can find a deal on the 5955's they are good - if not get the 7955s. Cheers, Andrew.

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
I second the better servo recommendation f5air. I started with 5645's and they didn't last or perform well at all. The 5955s and 7955s have lasted through many dumb thumbs and 4 airframes - still fast, still strong, still center, still no slop. Go for the better servos - you won't regret it. And in the end it saves you $. The "centering" issues relate to the servo returning to the exact same spot from deflection in either direction. 5645's are not very good at it. The 5955s and 7955s are. I use the 5955s and 7955s in my AW 35cc extra, it gives me the confidence to know that the gear can do the job - so if something isn't working the way I think it should I know it's me not the gear. Removing that doubt is priceless... Cheers, Andrew.

Flush mount servo lead connectors?
Looking to build my first 35% aerobat. (AW or WH haven't decided yet) Due to my lil' Chev Equinox I need to plan a very modular build to allow easy tear down. I have heard of people using types of plugs on the surface of the fuse and wing/stab ribs that allow a contact to be made when the wing/stab is plugged on to the fuselage. I would appreciate any information on what types of connectors are used for this purpose + any pictures or tips from those who have experience with them. Cheers, Andrew.
