RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Never had a problem with my jackel and it was abused, untill the switch failed after takeoff. I have a second one ready to build but it is waiting untill I finish my other projects. If you slow it down, it flies like a trainer, even at speed it is very easy to fly. But my Multiplex dogfighter is faster and more reponsive, rolls about 3 rolls a second with unlimited vertical. I had the Jett 56 in my jackel and found it to slow for me, so will look into seeing what is available to increase the speed, even though evryone said it was fast. never heard of any structural failures before, were the two which had wing failure built by the same person? This is not a bank and yank aircraft or 3d aircraft but needs to be flown smoothly with big wide turns , to get the best out of it. Darryl

RE: RC Flying in Dubai
Hi Choppy. I presume the flying site you are refering to is at Nad Alsheba. we serious flyers here in Dubai avoid that place like the plauge in the mornings due to the lack of rules and respect by other flyers. It is like russian roulette there as to when someone will be injured. Saturday afternoons a group of us fly helis there from about 4pm onwards.everything from 260 size upwards, electric, nitro and gas turbine. We usually fly at AL Lisaili which is just past the rugby sevens club on the Al Ain road, E66. Have a look at our facebook page peanut gallery dubai. pm me if you want directions to our club site or any of the hobby shops here. Darryl J

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Well my Jackal finally came to grief. Took off banked left and it just did its own thing. Hitting the sand at full power does not leave a lot left of an ARTF. Found the r/x switch was doggy, had a high resistance and when I put an input in there was no power to the servos, ok on the ground before the flight. Still had a long stint with it. I have another in a box, so will build that up soon and try again. Need to make this on go a lot faster. Darryl

RE: Thunder Tiger Raptor 50
The Raptor is an ideal first heli, I think better than the Trex 600. With mine, I fitted wooden rotor blades, slowed the headspeed down, reduced the control movements and it was rock solid. You could even take your hands of the sticks and it stayed where it was. As i progressed I raised the headspeed and fitted carbon blades and it is still stable but lively. fantastic solid dependable machine, and the spares are dirt cheap. I have a Trex 600 and 700 as well, but they are more lively than the Raptor. You do not need expensive equipment for the Raptor either. Good analouge servos will be fine for learning, just ensure the tail servo is of good quality though. Callie Graphics do a good range of decals to brighten up the canopy as well. Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Hi Viper. Someone at our club test flew his Baron a couple of weeks ago. Has two OS electric motors in it, and flew well. Few minor problems with the gear. The kit was supposed to be mine, but he got to it before I did, even though it was promised to me. Luckily I have over 50 aircraft so did not miss it to much, and took the top flite DC3 and CAP mosquito kits instead. Both built and both flown now. Jackel will be emerging in a couple of weeks as the winds have died down and spring temperatures are here, hitting 45c aprox 115f. Will really warm up in the summer at over 120f and 100% humidity. perfect flying weather. Darryl

good service from Futaba
I would just like to say thank you to Futaba for the superb service they gave when i needed to replace my 10C t/x casing. They supplied all the part numbers, took the order by fax and shipped the parts out very efficiently. The parts were delivered to me here in Dubai very quickly, and reading the paperwork with the order, this was a second order as the first had a mistake in it and was recalled. The T/X is like new again. thanks Krysta and co. Darryl

weather here at the moment sucks, sandstorms and gale force winds, so jackal is grounded untill visibility improves. Shame as I need to test out the new tank and the new 9x6.5 pylon racing prop I have just got. Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
I am still flying my jackal after a year with it still in one piece. I agree it is such an easy plane to fly, that with a lesser powered engine you could use it as a low wing trainer. Totally agree with the lack of visibility when it lands, especially here in Dubai when it is quite hazy in the summer months. I land mine with full flaps without any trace of dutch roll , just programme about 1 - 2 degrees nose down elevator, slow it to a walking pace and it lands itself, very slow and stable. I use a 9x9 prop on my Jett 56 and this gives good braking effect for landing. when I used the 9x6 I could not slow it down for landing, and top speed was slightly less. i had my first incident with it at the weekend, when I opened the throttle for take off, about halfway down the runway the engine started spluttering, but I put this down to it was not full throttle and it had not come onto pipe, as it sometimes does, but as I ran out of runway it got worse so I lifted off, put the gear up, just as the engine quit. the plane landed flat straigh tahead in the sand with no damage. I found that the bung in the front of the tank had come out, and looking at the design, it is only a compression fit, it does not expand behind the tank opening to seal and retain. So the rubber had hardened and finally came out. Luckily I have a spare tank to fit. May be worth checking when you have the plane in your workshops. Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Hi Sonny, merry xmas to you all. We have 6 months of perfect flying weather now, temps in the mid to high 20's (c) so the jackal will be flying a lot. It has already survived 10 months so hopefully will last a bit longer. Already have the second one in a box awaiting building, but need to figure out which motor to put in it as it is to slow with the Jett 56. Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Changed the prop on my Jackal with Jett 56 engine from 10x6 to 9x9 APC, what a difference, now starting to fly fast. The 9x8 is slower than the 10x6 and just seem to make a lot of noise and fly slowly. By changing the prop it is now quieter and flies a lot faster and smoother, may try a 9x10 to see what happens if I can get hold of one. Merry xmas fro sunny Dubai. Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
ORIGINAL: funflyerf4 Wow I had my first problem my hatch departed from flight on a high speeeeed dive pull out it does not like to fly with out it so dont try that !It gets worse I went to put down the gear and I hit the kill switch by accident. I got the gear down and realized Im not gona make the runway,we fly off a sod farm that has drainage ditches on both sides.I got the gear back up and tried to hit any of the fields and you guessed it I got the ditch!I got lucky all that broke was the motor mounts. The front pin broke flush with the hatch.
Hi funflyer. I had the same problem with my Jackel, ref earlier posts in this forum. I found that the hatch vibrates at high frequency due to the high RPM of the motor, and this wears away the front dowel so it eventually fails and with the build up of air pressure inside causes it to break. I spent hours in the desert under a blazing sun looking for mine, and eventually found it. to fix the problem, I opened up the air holes in the tailcone, drilled a 1/4 hole in the rear of the canopy, this allows the air pressure to escape. I put a short piece of brass tubing in the front bulkhead to allow the wing dowel to sit inside instead of wood to wood contact, put a new 1/4 dowel in the wing, and put very thin sticky backed sponge draught excluder on the fuse where the canopy sits. This has eliminated all the vibration, and the Jackal is still flying well since the beginning of the year. Darryl

replacement t/x case required
Does any one know where I can get a replacement case for my 10c t/x ? The rear plastic case on mine is falling apart. The plastic is just falling apart and disintegrating. The handle has fallen off as all the plastic it bolts to has broken up and fallen off, and the upper right hand switch housings are starting to fall apart, as are the retaining screw posts on the front case. I cannot afford to spend another massive amount of money just because the plastic case is inferior to the rest of the product. Darryl

Thanks Krtsta. i will give this a try. The 10c must be one of the best t/x's available on the market, but the lack of instructions in the manual to do the most basic tasks rates it along with a basic t/x set. many thanks Darryl

RE: Junk plane to test gas engines with
Definitley the Stick. Just brought the Giant Big Stick as a test bed for my 1.20 size engines upwards. Have had an RCV 1.30 and YS 1.40 in there to test, and now have an ancient OS 1.20 fs in it. It has a ton of lead in the nose, but boy does she fly well. So much fun with it, will do every manoeuvere in the book, and as with the YS, every flight ended in dead stick, she just floats forever at walking pace untill touch down. The standard big stick will be perect for you. Darryl

RE: is it me or is OS engines going to crap?
What I have found with the newer OS engines, particularley the AX range is the metal alloy they are made of is very lightweight but not strong. I crashed my Showtime 50, with an OS 55ax in it, from aprox 6 feet above the ground, flying medium to slow speed and the engine just shattered when it hit the tarmac. I have never in 35 years of crashing models seen an engine so destroyed. It was like it had been dipped in liquid nitrogen and hit with a hammer. The only reusable parts were the front bearing and the 'glow plug. All my older engines no matter what make survive being crashed remarkably well. Only my YS110 have I had to replace a cranshaft on, but that was after 6 years of running, very high hours, and it had hit the deck a couple of times over the years. The OS fourstrokes as well, if mounted inverted and you do a wheels up landing, the rocker cover and rockers just shear off, whereas before the rocker cover would scrape or just crack. I suppose the moral of the story is , donnt crash, but where is the fun in that? The price of progress. Darryl

RE: Futaba radio pitch curves
Thanks Bikemad. i was playing with it last night and discovered just that. You have to overide the norm, even though it shows idle1 next to it, strange way of doing things. Must agree with you, this must be one of the best radios available today, if only the manual was of some use it would be even better. Darryl

130 CD idle problems
I brought a RCV 130 cd a couple of years ago. it sat in the box for a year before I put it in my YT spitfire. The engine never idled properley from new, but I put this down to it being new. The aircaft met its end with about 20 minutes of running on the engine, including ground run time. when i transfered the engine to another model it just pumped out loads of brown gunge through the breather nipple at the front and would not run properly. It was returned to Weston UK for overhaul.Who promptly sat on it for months despite repeated calls to them about it. They said the bearings were all seized and thick with rust. The photos he sent me of the inside of the engine show bad corrosion in the castings as well. This should not happen to a low hour engine and cost me a lot of money to have repaired. Weston were informed of the bad idle at the time of repair, and when I got the engine back, fitted it to another aircraf tto test it, and it would not idle. it runs at 2/3rds to full throttle only. No matter where the high or low end needles are. i have removed the carb, cleaned everything, lubed and sealed the O rings, set the low end needle up by the blowing down the tube method, and still it will not idle. Now, when it gets hot, it refuses to start as well. Plugs are OS F, loads of new ones tried. Fuel is Byron, either 10 % or 15 %, sport or four stroke fuel ( all new). Prop is 15 x 8. Tried the engine in 3 different planes and still no good. Weston will not even answer my emails regarding what he did to the engine, or what can be done about it. Any ideas as to how I can get this thing to idle? many thanks Darryl

Futaba radio pitch curves
Not sure if this should be here or in the radio section, but as it is heli related hope someone can help. I have the Futaba 10c radio. I am currently flying my Raptor 50 in normal mode, ie throttle and pitch both move with the throttle stick. i feel it is time to move onto flying in idle up mode. When I enable idle 1 in my 10c, and then programme the pitch and throttle curves for idle 1, they over write the normal pitch/throttle curve. When the switch is selected to normal position only the idle 1 curves show, the same when I flick the switch to idle 1, it only has those curves, though it shows the respective positions (norm or idle1) The normal pitch/throttle curves are programmed in the basic menu, the idle up pitch and throttle curves are programmed in the advanced menu, How do I programme the t/x to retain both different pitch/throttle curves? so when I select normal, it has the normal curves, and when I select idle 1, it goes to the idle 1 curves. Thanks for any advise in advance. Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Hello Mumblety. I had this problem, and found it to be one of the servo leads stopping the wing sitting flush. Re-routed the leads through a different hole and it all lined up perfectly. Hope this helps I went to the hobby shop last week and they had another Jackal in the box sitting there at a good price, so i brought it as a back up in case anything happens top my original one. 10c flap/elevator mix
I have various aircraft where the flaps are assigned to a 3 position switch on my 10c t/x. When I try to mix elevator with the flap positions I can only mix it with the flap full down, not centre position. How do I mix elevator trim with both down positions? Also how do I set the range for the central position, I can set the full down ok. Flaps are y leaded together on Channel 6. Thanks Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
I installed the 520 Robart retracts (Are these the HAN 500?) and have the same problem. Robarts comments were they are not designed for this plane. So if I fit them to another plane the self centering spring miraculously appears? I just enlarged the nose wheel cover and used pull/pull cables ( not to tight to restrict the down locking) and it is fine. Before I enlarged the cover substantially the gear would jam up or on its way up. See post 749 onwards for my postings. Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
Hello Richard. Tried the 9x8 and found it to be all noise and no go, also very difficult to slow down for landing. I ran mine in with the 10x 6 and have switched back to it again. perhaps I will give the 9x8 another go to see if any difference now the engine is more or less run in. i am using the standard Jackal engine mount, and have had no problems with it untill I hit another aircraft in mid air, and one arm of the mount broke, this saved a lot more damage occuring, so have replaced it with the same. All the best and enjoy your Jackal. Darryl

Hi Guys. Still flying mine, was not affected by the mid air I had. Replaced the engine mount and it is still flying. My only concern is the engine makes a lot of noise, but to me the aircraft is not that fast. I am running a 10x6 on the Jett 56, the 9x8 did not do anything for the plane. What props are you guys running on your Jett engines? Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
flew my Jackel again at the weekend, still think it is slow even if people say it looks fast. Friday had a couple of good flights, Saturday was on my second flight in a steep dive full bore towards the runway, when another flyer decided to break the circuit and turn across the runway with his low wing Calmato 60. I hit him at full speed aprox 100ft above the runway ripping his tail of and flying straight through his plane. The Calmato hit the deck and disintegrated, The jackel engine cut but I turned 180 dropped the gear and landed perfectly. only damage was a broken prop, one arm of the plastic engine mount was broken, and the carb pulled out of the crankcase without any damage as the pinch bolt was not that tight. Testament to the toughness of this plane. Now to source another mount that will fit the bulkhead holes. Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
I am still flying my jackel, unlike someone else in our club, who was an inexperienced flyer, and totalled his jackel into a tarmac runway at high speed. I still feel that this plane is to slow. i am running the Jett 56 with the 10x6 prop at the moment. I fitted a 9x8 and it was so slow , so I switched back to the 10x6. Any recommendations on props for this engine to get the max speed out of this baby? My canopy is still giving me problems, the bulkhead on the canopy that has the dowel in it has all cracked up and broken. I have had a good look at the canopy, and it does not sit flat on the fuselage, it is raised above the fuse by a couple of thou, so it is supported only by the front dowel and the rear canopy catch, so it can rock side to side. this is probably allowing it to vibrate, so I have packled it with soft sponge on the canopy to fuse joint and hopefully this will eliminate the vibration. All in all a very robust enjoyable aircraft, and it is still in one piece after 3 months of flying it. Darryl

RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
I mounted my needle valve horizontally on the right side of the engine bulkhead, just above he engine mount, so the needle sticks out clear of the cowl. I cut a U shaped hole in the edge of the cowling to clear the needle and used self tapping screw to fix it in place, but make sure you flush them off on the inside as the canopy will catch. Ensure the valve clears the canopy dowel hole as well. Darryl
