RE: Norvel 25, 40 long term reviews
It will probably help. Getting more air has got to increase the power but how much is very dependent on the port timing. I would sure give it a try though. It is a very nice motor, just a bit too nice with that little venture. Denis

RE: Saito 40 run problem
This is a bit of a stretch, but it could be that the idle needle is a little to far in and just barely interfering with the flow from the high speed needle. Denis

RE: please give me some information about this engines!!!!!!!!!!!
# 1 early modern era Rossi 40, late 70s early 80s. #2 again early 45. #3 late 40 could be recent. same design as #1 and #2. All are very good and powerful motors. You can find the current new engine price for these motors in the US here. http://shop.vendio.com/RossiEnginesUSA/

RE: Who makes the powerhouse engine these days?
Here is where you get the Nelsons. Mike Langlois now makes them. Mike worked with and made parts for Henry Nelson in the past. http://aeroracingengines.com/index.html Dave Schadel of pspec is retired and no longer sells the engines Denis

RE: need roll pin for K&B
A good hardware store . Of course they don't exist anymore. There used to be several in the LA area. Try the net. You should be able to get one that way for about 9 bucks. 5 cents for the roll pin and 8.95 for shipping and handling.[:o] Sorry I was no help and sorry for the sour grapes[:(] Denis

RE: Thunder Tiger saved
They held the price of the TT40 at $99 because of the 424 rule on the price of the engine. I would imagine they would like to get out from under that rule or change the price with out loosing sales. There best approach for that is to approach the NMPRA leadership to address the problem. Denis

RE: MUBU II F5D Build
Always an issue. I used Hitec digital wing servos (5125s I think) in a couple of quickies. I don't think I made 40 flights before I had to replace the gears. But the metal gears in my mini Airtronics servos seem to go forever. I would sure try them. Look at all the room and weight allowance left over in a Q40 or F5D. I mean geez you could rent out the space for a news media ride along camera[:D] Denis

RE: MUBU II F5D Build
those really look pretty good. 30inoz, titanium gears, .23oz, 59 bucks. I would put them in a Vtail quickie with a nelson without much hesitation. With 30inoz I would like to see 2 on the elevators. Denis

RE: Norvel 25, 40 long term reviews
I have the 40AX. I flew quite a lot on a fun fly. It runs very well with good throttle response. The power is on the low end of the scale for sport 40s. The reason I believe is because it is poorly aspirated. If you don't give them much fuel you don't get much power and then of course they seem to have good fuel efficiency. Maybe 20 to 40 percent right out of the box[;)] Denis

RE: Sealed bearing loss??
Low viscosity fuel under pressure. All the devices you mention that the lube doesn't leak out of do not have a low viscosity solvent like alcohol under some pressure trying to wash the lub out of them. The seals are designed to keep the lub in the bearing but will not seal against a solvent getting in from the outside. The seal is breached and the lub is washed out. The seals are then just dust shields. That's OK I guess, but I'm with Jaka. We don't use them, and even on my non-pylon engines I would rather have the bearings washed and lubed by the fuel and be free of the draggy seals. Denis

RE: Telling difference between Nelson Q40 LS & Q40 SS
Run it on 15% nitro. What looks to you like a carburetor is not. It is a choke only. It does not have a low speed needle. The engine will not run below 12000 rpm and probably not below 15000. It will just flood and shut down. That black thing is just for shutting the engine down at the end of a heat. It can also be used for dropping the rpm to about 16.5 to 17 on the start line to keep the engine from over heating. The props you have I would worry about using. They are not designed for the power and rpm this engine will put out and may break. You need a pylon prop. 8.8*8.75 or in that range APC. With this prop this engine should run in the mid 19s. Dub Jett makes or used to make a carburetor that fits that engine nicely and works quite well down to 3000 rpm. Denis

RE: Telling difference between Nelson Q40 LS & Q40 SS
It's an SS. The throttle (choke) indicates it is a Q500 motor not a Q40. The casting intake is short and would indicate it may be a very old ABC. Denis

I have had it happen a couple of times even here in California but I never tried waxing the sticker. I'll do that at the next damp race.

RE: Battery use info
Same here. I am using the Lifes on several different analog and digital servos with no problem, so far. Non are high voltage. The Hitec 5245s are a little buzzy for 2 seconds after turn on but otherwise seem fine. Denis

RE: Battery use info
I think the variation you will see is more caused by other factors as opposed to equipment. I.E. when Randy is on the course the servos are going to be moving a lot less than when I'm on the course maybe 100% less. I use airtronics and Hitec digitals. Denis

Make them out of aluminum sheet you an get at a hobby shop or crafts shop. Not the best aluminum for the job but it will work. Myself I prefer to drink a beer and make them from the can. Again not the best aluminum but it will work. Denis

It seems to me I was using about 22ma per flight but I don't get around the pylons as fast as Randy. I like the fat 4mile course. It was about the same with nimh or life packs. Denis

RE: Engine Bearings???
My take on these bearings is in my review. http://www.rcbearings.com/16001c-12x28x7-ceramic/ I looked at Boca and RC-Bearings. Boca was $40 for the same bearing that RC sold for $11 but it had a plastic retainer. A YS has 4 bearings but I only needed the rear bearing. Both Boca and RC had sets of chrome steel. On the web sites Boca on the single bearing reported back order until you got to ceramic and RC did not list anything other than ceramic. I wil certainly still buy from RC Bearings but by phone and not on the web site. That way I can ask for chrome steel balls and bearings with non metallic retainers. Denis

RE: Frustrated with hangar rash!
A first flight without accidental dings is bad luck and a hazard. They will never fly right without dings. Murphy's law. Denting of course is a different problem. After glassing with .5 to .75 cloth I never have a problem unless I work on the wing on a poor surface. Denis
