boy?....... funny..... i know you wouldnt talk like that to my face, and if you did, you wouldnt be standing much longer..... the fact of the matter is that those helis pose no real injury threat and if you are dumb enough to chase and hit someone with any flying object you deserve the lawsuit you'll have coming. Btw.... I fly a 50 sized nitro copter and have a lot of respect for them but I'm not gonna run from a micro IR heli.

HAve you thought about a used Radio?...... I would recomend a pre-owned DX7, as you should be able to find one for 120-175 bucks and you will have lots of options and channels that should fulfill your needs for many years to come.

RE: Why Doesn't The AMA and the Hobby as a whole market to minorities?
ORIGINAL: ovationdave This is a silly question in my opinion. I was interested in this hobby because I was aware of it. So I searched out how to become involved. I think that any activity is that way. I find it hard to believe that anyone doesn't know that its possible to fly a plane, or steer a car, by remote control, if they are interested, they will come. If not, race has nothing to do with who or why they are attracted to the hobby. I think its a matter of what you want to do with the disposable cash (if any) you have, and if R/C modeling is not it, you are not interested, regardless of race?????? ~Dave
You were interested in the Hobby because you were aware of it........ that's exactly my point!........ Making more people (regardless of race) aware of the hobby will get new rc'rs into it! I have been in sales all of my working life and noticed the trend in which our hobby is marketed which is why I asked my original question. It has completely blown my mind how that so many of my fellow hobbiests have gotten so upset with my question. To me it is very simple..... If you want more people in the hobby, you go after a segment of the population that you have ignored. That is all...... btw..... those of you that are sending nasty pms can stop now. Goodnight.

RE: Why Doesn't The AMA and the Hobby as a whole market to minorities?
Now as I am the original poster , I will take time to address some of the issues as I see it. The RC hobby would greatly benefit by promoting to minorities as this will increase the amount of modelers period. The reason that many people (white, black or any other) do not join us in our wonderful hobby is that they simply don't know it's out there or they are given the opinion that it's too expensive. Damn near everyone I know has some type of video game system and over 10games that has cost them over 1000 bucks..... this money could have been spent getting them into the air. Now I have only been flying for about 4 years, but I personally have gotten over 20 people into our hobby and they have been people of all races. The problem as I see it is market saturation.... It's time to focus on a new market and get minorities and kids out of the house and onto the field. Also at no point did I call anyone person or company racist. It's not racist to promote to middle aged, middle to upper classed whites since they already make up a huge part of your customer base. That's generally good business, however there are millions of untapped dollars out there that the hobby is virtually ignoring and I don't understand why.

RE: Why Doesn't The AMA and the Hobby as a whole market to minorities?
ORIGINAL: Mustang1971 Why would they? Maybe I am color blind but I have never even considered this question since I haven't seen any discrimination on any level. At our club and at our shop, ANYONE (barring certain types of convicted criminals i.e. murderers, child molesters, etc.) who is interested in model aviation will find themselves welcome to join us!
Not once have I mentioned discrimination at the club level, Have I?....... The only question I have posed is why there are no minorities in ad compaigns..... People are so quick to jump to assumptions because they are defensive in that they know there are issues but don't want to be held accounatble for them. BTW, I am very happy that at YOUR club eveything is fair and balanced, howvere that is not the case at my club and many other clubs all over the country.
ORIGINAL: flycatch Ladies and gentlemen if you have not noticed. Television automobile adds are showing diversity in their commercials. This is something new but expected. The population of our nation from those groups once in the minority are now in the majority. All large corporations pander to those groups in the majority. RE: Why Doesn't The AMA and the Hobby as a whole market to minorities?
Who said anything about separating races?....... I want more people of all races into the hobby and I simply noticed that minorities are never included in Hobby related ads. At my field out of a Roster of 142 pilots, there are only 5 african american members. In my community African Americans make up roughly 32 percent of the population. There is a huge gap there. I read and hear all the time that the AMA is losing members and that clubs are declining so I figured it would be good to market to those we have been ignoring for years. Does that make me a racist?..... I would say no, but some of you are saying that I am.

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
I am speaking from first hand experience. When I first started flying (4 years ago) there were several people that behaved towards me in less than favorable ways and often times I was told point blank that they were a racist by someone else at the club. Look at the advertisements in any Hobby related mag..... do you see any faces of color?.... No...... It's awesome that YOU have not experienced racism in the modeling community, I wish that I could say the same.

Interesting that no one touched on this, but RACISM is certainly a reason that the AMA is not growing. I have been flying for about 4 years now and have experienced racism at every flying club I have visited for the first time.
