RE: CRRC 55 TWIN
Keep the oil ratio as you have it at 32:1. I've worn out a side induction 26 and GP26R very quickly on 40:1 mineral oil - plating goes on the bore. Don't crash it, the crank was soft on both of mine and my friends 26R. On the plus side, both engines were quite powerful and very easy to start and tune.

RE: ASP .91 > DLE-20 ??
ORIGINAL: Taz_Hobbies When it was all said & done, the airplane gained a little over 13ozs total. It went from roughly 10lbs 4ozs to 11lbs 2.0oz. I think I had mentioned 9lbs previously, but that was wrong. In checking my build notes, the Ultimate was 10lbs 4.0ozs with the OS 1.20AX. It is now 11lbs 2.0ozs. And the DLE does not perform like the OS at this point. It is currently running the very same 16x6 APC & 2.75'' spinner that was on the OS.
Phew that works out better, yes adding about 400g for the DLE sounds about right to me; battery, ignition, etc etc. 16*6 - now then..... you should be doing almost 10,000 RPM and will have very little airspeed. Mine was run in on that size and now a 16*8 gives much more oomph. Last thing - did you lean it out properly yet? There should just be the hint of a rich miss occasionally. You should have gone in on both needles by 1/4 turn or more since you first set it up. They need a fair bit of running in. mine is just loose after about 3 Litres. my personal preference for oil is Castrol TT full syn at 40:1. Did you tach your engine on the 16*6??? P.S. Very neat install [8D] Hope the engine gives what you want soon.

What size and type of prop? At 9~10lb it should do the bizz. The DLE isn't heavy - 11lb!!! ???

14*7 here. 13*8 is top load, 14*7 is a little high, but my engine only has 10 flights. 14*7 can be heard to speed-up on a dive in my Hien, 13*8 stays at top RPM all the time = 15*6 is too much.

DLE20 16*8 at 9,000 RPM. Massively powerful, very responsive and uses little fuel. Best engine I ever bought and I've been doing this 20 years and 50(?) engines. ST90 is no comparison. ASP a bit more powerful than the ST, but nowhere near the DLE. Longevity looks very good compared to the CRRCs I have and similar to the ST from what I see (last several airframes). Currently bidding on another (Shussshhh!) [X(] Enjoy! [:D]

RE: Flight-Model KI-61 ???
The 15 does not put out anything like the power of the 20. Generating less heat I guess. Vertical rolls are only an option after a dive - maybe 1! It loops from level flight in a reasonable radius (not huge) and has plenty for safe go-arounds or dodgy take-offs! The moss on our field is causing problems for everyone at the minute. I have to take off in the pits when no-one else is around - that's the only hard part of the ground. Landing has to be dragged out as slow as possible and on a certain patch to avoid a nose-over. A big squidgy sponge. Even the helis have to be careful lifting off. Henseleit TD was up to the top of it's skids [:@] We have a veggie arrester hook [:D] The farmer is coming to spray it soon.

RE: Flight-Model KI-61 ???
I've got my DLE20 run-in now in the Yellow Seagull Yak I have. Masses of power on a 16*8 - Vertical punch out from a hover and unlimited vertical. KE loops and umpteen vertical snaps and rolls going up. In the Hien it should really be going like a rocket! Have you timed it/got any idea of the speed? I reckon mine is doing ~60MPH on the RCGF 15 and 14*7 prop (much less powerful engine).

RE: Spark plug thread insert - Use sealant?
Blue Loctite helps lubricate the coil when you put it in and stops it moving later. If you put it in dry, they can curl up as you install - then need pulling out again. Smack the tang hard when you have the coil in. Don't go gently or you can bend the end up and thus it needs pulling out. Once 'in' to your satisfaction, they are bullet proof [8D]

RE: Flight-Model KI-61 ???
Been up a couple times between thunderstorms today. The RCGF15 is enough power to loop now on a 14*8 and she rips from a dive [:D] I imagine the DL20 would make this little plane hurtle! Hope you get it sorted RBean. Quick question did you put a venturi on the carb and is there plenty of airspace behind the throat? Also did you put a tube/pipe on the metering cover? It was flat clam today and I need to play with the flaps - our patch was sodden and full of moss - so a couple of nose-overs [:'(]

The carb in the pics is an old (and well-worn) one. before I whip the plug out of the good ones(s), do you think it might be worth closing up the cutout in the butterfly? It's right over the centre idle jet.

Got it. 3 jets. I loosely put a pin through so you can see where they are aimed. They seem easily accessible to drill. The middle and top tie up with where she is lean. I'll let you know what happens.... RE: Walbro midrange adjustment
ORIGINAL: av8tor1977 Yep, and carb throttle butterfly ''cutouts'' work great, but they actually lean the midrange, not richen it... AV8TOR
Allegedly, the higher flow directly over the jet RICHENS the idle/pickup mixture, rather than the air passing around the circumfernece of the throttle plate. Not entirely convinced.... [&:] My problem is at 1/4 throttle. The amount of richness required in the mid is in the 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn range (so quite a lot). That is with the low end set at a very best idle. I've got several carbs, so drilling and welching and possible FUBAR are not a problem [:D] Where do I drill???

RE: Walbro midrange adjustment
Ok thanks for that [8D] I've seen modifications by adding cut-outs in the throttle plate just above the jets, I guess that is just for the very first few mm of travel? Also got several small drills, so opening up a transition hole/jet is a possibility? Other ideas? [:o]

Walbro midrange adjustment
I have been flying my 180FS conversion some more (WT38 carb fitted) and have noticed that a much lower idle is possible by leaning the bottom end needle. This results in a poor transition/cut on opening up. To get a reliable idle and transition, the low end is really rather too rich. Can I make any adjustment to the throttle plate or pop-off pressure to richen the mid-range? Top and bottom have plenty of adjustment as it is.

RE: Mobil 1 in 4-stroke 190cc Lawn Mower
I run syn in my 75cc lawn mower. Doesn't get changed for a couple years! Takes about 1.5 litres from memory (which is what I had left after changing the Saab and Rover). The side valve engines gunk up badly on traditional motor oil - it is clean as clean on this stuff. The only gunk now is cuttings in the head fins that need raking out. No more fouled plugs either. They are very lightly loaded and I don't think you would kill one on any sort of engine oil.

RE: Webra 35 toast?
I guessed-so. I had two in my old Raptor. The first one eventually wore out after a lot of use, it gave-in inverted - sagged - and I didn't have enough height (or experience) to reduce pitch and get the revs up again. Just broken blades and bent spindle from memory. Too much play in the bore and past putting in a new ring. It had been slowly declining, but I never really noticed until then (learning to fly helis). Engine very hot. I replaced it with the same type and the heli was back to normal power. That second one is in a delta now - the heli got totalled in a mid-air with a plane. bigboy- the metallic popping sound is likely to be pre-ignition. Running too lean! Not enough revs and too much pitch will do that also. What is your hovering pitch (mid stick pitch)? Worn engine (like I had) is also possible. You have correct size blades and ~5 degrees hovering and ~9 degrees top pitch (12 in hold) ? Memory kicking in now, they will run 20 or 30% nitro without complaint - but you should see a very smokey trail then. What muffler or tuned pipe do you have? Enya no3 or OS 8 plugs are good, but I don't think it was too fussy.

RE: Webra 35 toast?
These are very resilient and easy handling engines. Only after several tens of hours or so will they wear out. A new ring gives a new lease of life if it's tired. Not too powerful though and over-pitching will cause pinking and slow-downs. If it's hot and you were giving it some, they will overheat and cut e.g. multiple loops and pitch reversals. 5 or 10% nitro is good. 20% unnecessary. You should be running with a good cloud of smoke (more with 20%) and the crankcase should be bearable to touch after landing. it sounds like you are running too lean. Very easy to strip and check. You should have a nice pop in suction with the plug removed. Also no rust and no play in the crank bearings. The bearings are easily replaced and unless the bore has a lip, a new ring should do the job.

Hold on, the bearing seat is good. The valvegear and cam doesn't load that bit and there is not a gas seal there on a 4 stroke. So what (apart from looking nasty) is the problem? Put her back together and go fly!
