RE: Whats up with kits?
ORIGINAL: raptureboy Really: another thread on the lack of kits??? Don't we have enough whinning on here already? What has happened to all the good build threads? Oh, I know we are too busy crying about kts again. Get building already! Buy some plans, get some wood, make a plane.[X(]
Whining? Really? I asked a question as to the reasons there were far fewer kits listed on auction sites all of a sudden and the astronomical prices being asked. No where in my op did I whine about the lack of kits. I was simply curious about what changed in the market place. I have a very large stash of kits and will never be able to build them all in my lifetime, so the lack of kits is not really an issue to me. I asked the question for the sake of disscussion and nothing more. I have enjoyed every reply, including yours, because it keeps the disscusion going. If you feel that the others and I are whining, then don't read the thread. I looked at your profile, I would be very happy to follow a good build thread from you.

Whats up with kits?
I was just perusing one of the more popular auction sites for kits and found there were very few to be had. Also, the prices are astronomical for the few that were there. What gives? Is it because their is a shortage of balsa, people hording them, or some other reason I am unaware of? Good thing I horded the kits I have, lol. Looks like I may start buying plans and scratch building, that is just as fun.

RE: Best paint for firewalls?
I usually mask off the fire wall and paint it the color that I want, then after the paint has dried I go over it with 30 minute epoxy. The epoxy is fuelproof and seals the edges of the covering around the fire wall so fuel cannot get underneath. I have never had fuel soaked wood on my models after doing it this way.

Need some help on an lphv spray gun. What is a good brand, where to buy and any advice you may have. I am going to be working on a semiscale project this winter and want to try my hand at painting.

RE: STOLEN MOWER! THIEVES!
I moved from CA to Idaho because of the perceived crime and the Gi-normous taxes. I lived in CA for about 15 years and was never stolen from. I have lived in Idaho for four years and my truck has been robbed twice in my drive way, go figure. I live in a very nice neighborhood and was surprised by this. I still love Idaho and will never leave, so it really doesn't matter where you live, their will always be scum bags.

RE: RC Plane Guys Are Cheap!
My strategy is one of being patient. I have roughly 40 kits and several unbuilt arfs in my collection that I have purchased over the last 20 years or so. That does not include the numerous kits that I have sold, always at a profit. My kits are either in very good to pristine condition. I know what most kits are worth and what I can usually expect to get from them by watching e-bay and several other sites, including Craigslist. Usually a bargain can be easily found. As an example, just last night on Craigslist I found a NIB Great planes f14 tomcat in excellent condition for 100.00. I know I can easily make at least 75 to 100 dollars on e-bay to resell it. I also found a Goldberg 10-300 Ultimate kit in excellent condition for 125dollars, e-bay price = 200 dollars and up. I will easily pay their asking price without haggle ling, because I know I can make a profit. As far as club auctions go, most of the stuff I've seen is usually junk. Sometimes I will buy something if the price is very low, because it isn't something I really want and wish to help the club out. I love to collect, buy, and sell kits. The problem is, I have a hard time selling a kit because I want to keep it for myself. Every kit I currently own I know I will make a profit off of. Engines, Usually will not buy unless I can see them or know the person selling them. I have bought a few on line and have been fortunate that they were as advertised. Electronics, I usually just buy servos. However I am just starting to get interested in the old gold box and single stick radios. They can be bought cheap and I think they are becoming more collectible, plus I like them. A few pictures of my collection, not including the ones I have in my shop.

RE: CG Bucker Jungman
Looks good. Love the color scheme. Still working on mine. Trying to build three planes at one time slows me down and work has been hectic. But I will get there. If you get video of the plane, would love to see it.

RE: BTE Flying king build
Finally got the wing tips done and have started on the bomb drop. Was sidetracked for a while working on a CG Bucker Jungman but now my garage is to cold to paint it. So i'm back onto the Flying King. Wing tips were a lot of work but worth it. Here are a few pictures.

RE: Goldberg super Chipmunk build
The .61 SF will power the plane nicely. You should have no problems with it. I have one of these engines waiting for a plane to install it in. Dan

RE: CG Bucker Jungman
Hey guys! Thanks for the compliments. I am building this kit for a friend. This was a partial kit, so I had to fabricate a lot of the missing pieces. The kit looked like it had been stored in a barn. Luckily, I have a kit in my kit collection, so it wasn't to hard to rectify the situation. I believe the fiber glass parts came from fiber glass specialties http://fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/. They make some nice parts. I have the elevator control rods and the rudder pull/pull system in now and almost have the throttle linkage completed. Next will be figuring out the proper configuration for the gas fuel tank, never done one before. I believe it is a little different to set up then a glow fuel tank. As far as the instruction manual, I will give you the one I have when I am finished with this build. (Don't know how long that will be though) The pictures of your planes are appreciated. Thanks Dan

CG Bucker Jungman
Anyone building a CG Bucker Jungman? I am currently building one for a friend. I am putting in a DLE 20cc gasser. This will be the 1st gasser I have built. So far it has been a pretty fun build. If you have one, would love to see pictures or video. Here are some pictures. I am going with the box color scheme.

RE: GP Ultimate Biplane build
Your plane is looking good, keep at it, you wont be disappointed. I am the one vpresley is referring too. I built mine around an Saito .65. It was a little under powered. I went to a Saito 82. Haven't flown it yet. The .82 is lighter then the .65. Would have been a drop in replacement, but the carb is on the opposite side. The ABS cowl sux, go with the fiber glass one. Some pictures of mine.

RE: ESM Planes - RIPOFF!
Dang, I love this hobby. Arfs have come a long way. Back in the day when I began RC, one of the first planes I bought was an .25 size Aristocraft cub, it said on the box it was a great beginner plane(wrong). I couldn't find anyone to teach me to fly it and it weighed a ton, that was roughly 20 years ago. Arfs today are light years better in quality and are relatively cheap. Since then I have put together many arfs and have built many kits. I love both. If you want to learn how to build an airplane build several kits and then do scratch building. During the time it takes you to build the kits you can buy the tools a little at a time and learn woodworking skills, as I did. I have a couple of projects I am building for pay (CG Bucker Jungman and a pilot 1/3 scale Bucker Jungman) for a client. After those I am going to start a Ziroli A6M5 Zero. Can't wait. From what I have read, I would buy an ESM Stuka knowing it is a good starting point to bash and that the supplied hardware is garbage.

RE: Goldberg super Chipmunk build
The chipmunk I built and maiden-ed for my friend required no nose weight. The one I built has an os .61fx. In fact I put the battery pack behind the fuel tank and it balanced perfectly. Isn't the saito .100 heavier than the os .61.

RE: BTE Flying king build
That looks awesome. Someone will be very lucky to have that one. Mine is all framed up, just need to do the wing tips. I just recently got the balsa I needed to do the wing tips, I'm making drooping wing tips. I should be able to start on them hopefully tonight. I used the mini router BTE sells to inlay the windows on mine. They look really nice. Mine will be orange and white, cant wait to finish it. Nice job on yours!
