RE: Central Texas Jet Rally
ORIGINAL: seanreit Ivan, this rally is traditionally a very fun rally to attend. I however will be out at the lake this weekend with about 400 bikini clad women. So if you guys get bored over there with the hunted pigs, Luis knows how to get a hold of me and you guys can meet us out on the water. You can never go wrong with the Austin Jet Rally, except for the Ass that glued locks to trailers last year in the parking lot.
Sean, You are incorrect. There will be more than 400 and then there will be around 50 or so who won't be clad at some point. Gave you call yesterday, I think it was your number, 656 something..

RE: Foamies @ Florida Jets
Time slots are a great idea for the smaller foam or balsa types of jets. Since they saved the meet previously, even commendable to offer that. I have a taxi-able foamy about the size of your monitor that scoots between 100-120 mph depending on battery size. Would I fly the pattern with it, sure, but wouldn't, would wait till all the fire breathing is done. It all comes down to the pilot following the rules anyway, I flew a 100 mph foamy right thru some nimrod who was illegally hovering his 3d foamy over the flight line instead of flying the pattern (there is a field designated hovering area). It is the guys that don't follow the rules when accidents happen. Without time slots, looking at performance based model comparison would be next criteria, ie, the ability to get out of the way, with haste...

RE: Roll Call for T-38 Jet Rally
ORIGINAL: seanreit Hey Ron, I am not attending flying events nor flying turbines the rest of the year in protest of the president of ARCA going to the City of Austin and having Turbines banned at our field such that we can be fined by the city if we do. Hopefully these clowns will eventually see the light and the wrongs they did, as they far out weigh the threat that I made to get a seat at the table. Incredibly, there are those out there that consider what they did OK, and rightful, and friendly like. Some of those will be in attendence at this and future rallies. Maybe if a monsoon comes across Texas I will get over this...... But I will be with you guys in spirit while out on the lake with the Chicks in Bikinis! Have a great time, and I sure appreciate your asking if I was coming. I sure love to fly jets..... [8D]
I just read about that. You can fly at the Big bird event at the end of the month! all you need is a permit and a fire truck during other times, they way I read the notice.

I needed a more mission capable boat than the cigarette style, we do a lot of Scuba Diving, Wakeboarding, Skiing, hanging out, and probably a couple cases of brew, and bottle of Jack a week. RE: Turbine Restrictions during Burn Bans
Great last 2 posts. Sounds like No one should be allowed to fly anything (glow, lipo, kero, gas) on a dry windy day. and then other days, use your best sensible judgment. There is no reason to treat people like 2 year olds, point at them and ban them, Just like Todd said, he won't fly during those dry, windy times, he's right, I wouldn't want to either. It's not worth the risk. Just like I stated earlier, the JPO and AMA allow Turbine flyers and their fellows to use their best sensible judgment and peer to peer safety measures and so should the clubs.

RE: Turbine Restrictions during Burn Bans
ORIGINAL: rjpmodel "if your Club is so Friendly as you may say why not help the guys that fly the Jets and be friendly with them instead of kicking them out or simply say a Fire its the Jets Fault in any future, don't sound like a friendly club to me... " marvinf14 - do you not understand english Read the preceeding post !! It was the jet pilots in the club that initiated the no fly turbins during burn bans because THEY had enough sense and responsibility to realize that when a turbin hits the ground there is a reasonible chance that fuel flowing over a hot engine could start a fire. Why is it so hard to understand that a fire way out in a very dry field will be very hard to control by the time you can get there with your very limited water cans. How can it be repeated so many times that the club is not jet friendly and is trying to pick on jet pilots? I will repeat it one more time. It was the jet pilots in the club that initiated the no fly turbins during burn bans because THEY had enough sense and responsibility to realize that when a turbin hits the ground there is a reasonable chance that fuel flowing over a hot engine could start a fire.
Hey Bob, how's it going Good last point. But I think to clarify the point is that when you pour kero all over grass or a bush, be it Fresh (non-burn ban?) or dry (burn ban?), and light it on fire, it is reasonable to assume that the grass would burn in both cases and, in fact, it actually does. And this is why the ban during parts of the year makes no sense. It only makes sense if you have a ban all year long because the risk of crashing is the same no matter what day it is. Right? Or are they saying because there is a burn ban by the County, the risk of crashing goes up? I am curious if the moisture content of the grass/bushes was tested at the time of the other crashes that have occurred there and why it was ok to fly then. And if so, was there a difference in that MC than another non-rainy, non 'ban" day, and if so, was there a fire test done to figure out in milliseconds how less flammable kero doused plant material was that day? Or can anyone make the determination of what the moisture content is of the plant material surroundings on any particular non-rainy day and then correlate that with the chance of crashing on that day? The only reasonable thing to do is to have as much safety equipment as possible and at the ready no matter what day it is or what you're flying. PS (I think the worst enemy with a fire is wind, so the only realistic ban I can foresee putting into place would be banning all flights on high wind days but that would add insult to injury (Fla. jets).

RE: Turbine Restrictions during Burn Bans
dasintex, Well I think you are getting good information here and even though the discussion has changed somewhat, the content, with exception to some, is pertinent to your topic but I understand if you don't agree. What is has done is brought out an issue that many clubs face and that could face in the future. But more importantly, When and if you take away judgment from a paying pilot by actually outright BANNING one type of this great hobby of ours during burn bans, ALL should be banned during that time that has "potential fire threat", if the threat of fire, is that serious in the surroundings. If turbine aircraft were the only aircraft that existed to fly, there wouldn't be a ban, would there? it would just be another day to day risk, like driving to the store to get some milk, eating a hamburger, or just crossing the street.

RE: Turbine Restrictions during Burn Bans
ORIGINAL: ravill Dragonpilot, Well written sir. Raf
Thank you Raf, just stating what is right. There is no reason for an argument or a trial. If The JPO and the AMA have the educated foresight and knowledge to make and change their rules based on self-policing, This should be no different at club level. The answer is a simple re-vote by only ALL WAIVERED Jet pilots associated

RE: Turbine Restrictions during Burn Bans
There are millions of bad decisions. The problem with what has happened with the rule change, IMO, lies with a force of numbers. ARCA is my field. I love it and most of the guys there are great. I enjoy flying there and the comraderie. Most of the guys fly prop stuff. I fly jets and EDFs. Most pilots at ARCA are sensible. There are some non-sensible ones like this guy named Chen who decided to hover his 3D foamie over the flight line while pilots were flying the pattern. Well, no one noticed he was doing this until my jet was coming by and after I saw him hovering and within a split second tried to dodge him he moved and crashed me. While my jet was flying thru the air mangled the lipo flew out and landed on the asphalt. I immediately took the lipo and placed it in a ceramic container and place that on the slab of concrete because that is the sensible thing to do. Lipos can catch fire and are not banned at the field but one needs to be sensible about procedures and handling. That is the most important point here. I don't care what it is, you need to be sensible about it. Dogs running around in the pit and flight areas is not sensible. but there is no ban on that at the field (or it is not enforced) Bans are bad, because it does undermines the integrity of pilots. AMA does not have a turbine flying ban during burn bans, why?, well it was just stated above. Self police ing. The great thing about Jet pilots is the self policing. The other great thing is the safety procedures that are in place that jet pilots adhere to. I once saw a video of a wet start at a field (in Europe) where a jet caught fire and no one had an fire extinguisher and they were trying to put it out with a drink of coke. See, that wasn't sensible. That guy lost his jet cause he's a fool and his buddies should have policied him. Here, We have the AMA and sensible jet pilots. The problem arises when jet pilots are being policed by non-jet pilots. This is simply and utterly wrong. This is not to offend non-jet pilots but when I wasn't a turbine jet pilot before, I couldn't possibly have the know how to make any kind of educated decision on how to go about that, let alone make a ban. So that is the number one problem here. There is no way a non-jet pilot should be allowed to vote in a ban that would affect a jet pilot. Just like a non-heli flying pilot make a vote about helis. I like helis but I don't want them flying anywhere near me so I would vote to ban them flying. I'm just not comfortable with the idea of one crashing and a piece of the blade flying off and hitting me. So I'm biased but surely this isn't fair to the heli pilots who know about the blades and what happens when they crash and the peer to peer safety checking that exists among them. So me voting for a heli ban would not be fair. Do you see the point made here? There needs to be a re-vote at ARCA where all jet pilots (with turbine waivers) are specifically invited and they are only the ones allowed to vote on a ban. And if the waivered jet pilots and only the waivered jet pilots decide to vote ban, would that settle this? I would think so. And if non-jet pilots decided to go thru the waiver process to vote in this, I think they'll see a greater understanding of the self-policing that goes on in the jet world. If this doesn't make sense to everyone, let's ban everyone from flying. For me, I'm going to hang out with some heli pilots and learn more about them. I suggest we all do the same, there is no room in this Hobby World of ours for a BAN on Fun based on bias. Education is power, let's all be willing to learn. And for Sean's offer to buy the club more fire safety equipment, that's a no brainer and it would be a sad time if that falls on deaf ears....

RE: Should stinkin foamys be allowed in the same airspace as a high dollar turbine jet?
It really doesn't matter what the cost was of each aircraft. It comes down to who's fault it was and how they were flying. Both of which have no recourse for either pilot. I watched the video. I thought it wasn't smart for the Mig pilot to take off vertically with an aircraft in the air. At the point of impact, on the video, I immediately thought the foamie was at fault but after hearing that they called for landing and were starting their turn in, well, that Mig should have been 100' higher. I agree with the defensive flying. I've flown edf's at jet rallies before. While I tried to fly them when turbines were not in the air, when they were, I flew low or high and out of the way as I had more control to move out of the way if need be. Really it comes down to pilot's and spotter's skill and judgment of when and how to fly. A $40K mig pilot should be able to make the decision to not fly with an out of control foamie in the air. That said, a foamie pilot should have enough skill to get out of the way. Lastly, if you turn on and shoot someone down, you pay or go to.

RE: New stuff from Kyosho
It's over 150grams heavier than the illusion with the same power system with worse ducting and larger frontal area. Does look cool static, but maybe not floating around at 35mph. Should have been 2 edf units or a larger one capable of the thrust needed. The illusion or Mirage are better bets.

RE: Blue Angel Crash
So they ruled it a CFIT.... I would suspect with all the technology and millions of dollars spent, that our aircraft have better collison avoidance systems to take control of the aircraft when it suspects faulty inputs and imminent crash (too close to the ground) or shouldn't there be sensors on the pilot's brain to determine if he/she has complete control. I'm assuming. I guess I need to read up on the latest GPWS, TAWS systems Sad times to lose a pilot in any situation.

RE: what is your opinion?
I recently packed and shipped a friends' jet kit off and spent quite a bit of time packing it. It was a royal pain and not worth the time and effort not to mention $expensive$ shipping costs, however, In good conscience at least for myself, I would expect nothing less than the product arriving in the same condition prior to shipment to the buyer. I certainly don't want to be on the receiving end of a bad shipment and I would think everything would agree, no matter what the cost or no matter how good the deal was. Since when is receiving a bashed up model a "good" deal. Now if the item is packed well and the shipment company smashes it, that's an insurance claim. That being said, if you are shipping something, make sure it is packed right and secure to ensure an intact arrival or don't send it.

RE: Possible Ebay fraud in Waco, Texas - can anyone help ?
ORIGINAL: i3dm Hello guys, A friend of mine won this Wren MW44 turbine on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330155168062&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=014 The Seller, Mr. Chris Norman, has replied asking the payment to be done by wire transfer. the payment was made 2 days after the auction ended for a total 1835$. Since then this guy barely responds to emails, saying he is at a convention for a week and will send the turbine when he is back Thursday (tommorow). BUT, he did provide us with 2 phone numbers, home phone get a machine saying "This number is not in use, Goodbye" and office number has his machine picking up without even 1 ring, for 5 days in a row now. Even worse, i just realized the bank account beneficiary adress he provided is not genuine, since there is a convention center at that adress, and not an apartment building. Can anyone help varify if this guy is for real ? maybe someone knows him ? here are his details: Chris Norman Account Name: Only Solutions, Inc. Bank Address: 111 W Debbie Ln, Mansfield, TX 76063 Beneficiary Address: 110 Austin Ave, Waco, TX 76701, office phone: (254) 946-9237 home number (214) 594-8288. We definitely hope its all a big misunderstanding, but we dont wana be caught too late. Thanks for your help.
Hopefully this will pan out for you. Have you tried tracking the serial number for the turbine thru the manufacturer. If you can, first trace the routing of the email if you can see if it is coming from Texas. If the ebay account is a real account, not hacked and owned by this man call his last buy on ebay from the Seller Car Parts Wholesale, 1-866-828-4322, pretend you're him and confirm your shipping address in Waco with them. Maybe that can track him down. Also, maybe someone in Waco can go to those addresses and same with Mansfield. Hopefully all will work out.

RE: Trouble with Robart Retracts
SC, I have a brand new set of spring air down Robarts I'm testing and have had to really slack off the nose wheel steering to get the nose gear to lock. I've had problems like this with the mains as well not locking out on the ground but I need to further test my setup with the valve. I'm hoping since they retract down and back the air velocity pressure will help seat them in the locked position in the air. I fear though, I may end up in your shoes.

RE: Rafale complete kit from X-tremejets
ORIGINAL: Airforce7 Here are some photos from last weeks flying. One of my fellow club members took the photos. I was surprised to see them in my inbox today, didn't know he took them. [:)] I moved the main gear forward about an inch so that the wheels just barely clear the forward fuselage openings. I also changed the throw on the canards so that they travel fully up and down. Takeoffs and landings are much easier and the airborne performance is pretty good even without gear doors. Just need to be more careful with steering as the main gear separation is narrow and the jet tips with to much stick input (my throw is very small BTW with some expo). I've left the missile rails off because of this for now. The method of mounting the rails will tear-up the wing tips pretty easily when the tip load is pressed on them. Is anybody else having success with their Rafale in light of some of the recent incidents this year?
Ken, Almost ready here, cut the 3 hinges, drilled them out and installed 5 plus two control horns as shown. Now I don't have to worry about elevons flying off. Glad you having success, Looks Great!
