RE: 1/10 RC Formula 1 Cars...lets see'em
Here is my F103RM I bought myself for Christmas. I haven't put any decals on it yet but I dont think I'm going to anyway because I like the all jet black look. On my next body I think I'll do something a little more scale, but this one is a basher so its staying this way. Unfortunately there is a bunch of ice and snow on the ground so I won't be able to try it out for a while. [image]http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/5415/f103zv7.jpg[/image]

RE: 1953 Chevrolet Half-Ton Dually flat bed build
Awesome as usual. Are you planning on weathering it like your other rigs? I think the bed would look more scale if it was weathered to look old and beaten up. Of course you'd need to weather everything else as well though.... Also how about some faux nails holding the bed together, rusted of course. Not sure what you'd use for that though, they'd have to be tiny. I guess you could just paint them in if you couldn't find anything small enough.

RE: E-Maxx or the Super Clod Buster?
ORIGINAL: crrcboatz I have been in rc for 31 yrs but want to get a 4 wheel drive electric monster truck. Got it down to the Emaxx or the Super Clod Buster. I want dual motors, something that is both a climber and a off road truck too. I want dependability, speed, versatility, toughness, and I want to have fun with it! Traxxas and Tamiya are both very good companies. Input MUCH appreciated! Curt
The two trucks are completely different beasts. The Emaxx has independent suspension, is much faster out of the box, and can handle higher speeds. The Clod is more like a full size monster truck with it's solid axles and huge Chevron style tires but due to its higher center of gravity it tends to want to tip without major mods. The Clod is probably the most modified truck in R/C history and is just tons of fun. You really have to decide which suits you better and go with it. Do you want to build a scale-ish monster truck? A rock crawler? Then go with the Clod. Or do you want something that is somewhere between an 1/8 scale truggy and a stadium truck? If so then go with the Emaxx.

RE: Going Slow is The Way To Go - Tamiya CR-01 Resource Thread!
Well I'm just going by my experience. My brother is running the stock silver can in his CR01 and we had his ESC wrapped in a balloon all summer and I checked it constantly to make sure it wasn't getting hot and it never even got warm. The motor would get a little warm/hot but never the ESC. On my Axial I'm running a 45t motor and didn't have the ESC wrapped in a balloon (waterproof LRP ESC) but it never gets even a little warm to the touch and the motor barely gets warm at all. I guess under certain conditions they could get hot depending on what you're running and where you're running it but I just never experienced it personally.

RE: Going Slow is The Way To Go - Tamiya CR-01 Resource Thread!
With waterproofing you really have to decide for yourself how much risk you're willing to take. Personally I would wrap both the ESC and receiver in a balloon. For the servo I would put some silicone glue over the seams of the case and thick grease around the shaft. Most people will tell you not to wrap the ESC because it will overheat and they are right under most circumstances but in my experience the ESCs on rock crawlers are under very little load and barely get warm to the touch. I had my brother's XL5 wrapped in a balloon all summer long without problems, it just doesn't get hot enough to make a difference. You just have to ask yourself whether its worth wrapping your ESC in a balloon and possibly risking overheating it or shortening its life in trade for a great time out in the snow. You also have to decide whether you'd rather risk your ESC by wrapping it in a balloon and possibly overheating it or leaving it upwrapped and possibly getting it wet.

RE: new to on-road need advice
I strongly suggest going with one of the Tamiya TB03 cars instead of the TT01. Like somebody said above the TT01 needs a number of upgrades to be a decent runner. Unless you're buying it specifically for drifting then go with the TB03. Sure it'll cost more but by the time you upgrade the center shaft, install oil shocks, fix the steering, etc you'll have spent more than what the TB03 kit costs and you'll still have a relatively lousy handling car. Trust me, I've driven a number of these things and the TT01 has a very twitchy suspension setup and there are no adjustments to fix it. The TB03 is well worth the extra money if you can afford it.

RE: Does anyone use Hard Plastic Bodies (ie Hummer H2, Jeeps, ect)
If you do a search on some of the rock crawling specific forums you'll find tons of people who use hard bodies for scale crawling projects. A very common lid is the Tamiya Hilux though piecing one together can get relatively expensive.

RE: applying traction compound to foams
ORIGINAL: Alpha Male I was told by a veteran racer to use 30spf sun block on foam tires and to simply rub it on with your hands and let it dry. Take that for what it is worth, because I've not tried it yet.
You're correct. There are two options. Some use the sun block to keep the traction compound from drying before the race. For example the racer will apply traction compound, let it sit for a period of time and then apply a thin coat of sun block over the tire to keep it from drying. On the other hand I have personally tried using just sun block on foam tires and can tell you that it definitely does soften the foam all by itself. You just have to rub it in until you can't see it anymore and then wipe off the tires to get the initial grease off. If using traction compound by itself just apply it, let it sit for a while (how long is a personal preference) and then wipe the rest off. If you fail to wipe the excess compound off the car will feel really slippery in the first few laps.

You should easily be able to find one RTR for that price. If you look around for a while you can find ones that are in mint condition. Just make sure its the Factory Team version, the Team and RTR versions have a nylon chassis.

RE: 1.9 class rules = bogus!!!
I'm glad they made the one motor rule. Look at the vast majority of 1.9 rigs and what do you see? A tranny on the chassis being run by one motor powering two driveshafts into two axles. If they allowed miniature clod style axles in the 1.9 class then the majority of 1.9 rigs would be obsolete. There is no way a truck with a big motor/tranny stuck high up in the chassis could ever compete against one with two smaller motors mounted on the axles, not to mention the added problem of torque roll in the average 1.9 setup. Its pretty simple, they made that rule so that the class doesn't get overly "hard core" for lack of a better term. They're trying to stop it from becoming a miniature super class. It has absolutely nothing to do with discriminating any any particular company. If Duratrax had built their rig to fit the current setups that these trucks run then they'd be allowed as well. Instead Duratrax thought they'd take advantage and make a mini clod style truck and thankfully the rules won't allow it.
ORIGINAL: Barber420 So I take it it's not a good conversion then?
Their kits aren't that well made, plain and simple. Mine came with the metal all gouged up and when I contacted ESP about the problem they never replied. Besides that everything is made of thin sheet metal that looks very cheap. Personally I'd spend my money elsewhere. If you do decide to order that kit just realize that they don't stock them. When placing my order I was under the assumption that they had them ready to ship. When I never heard anything back from them I sent them an email and got the run around. Supposedly their CNC machine was down. Their CNC machine must have a lot of problems because I happened to notice that other buyers had the same complaint in their ebay feedback. I'm fine with a company being honest with me about items being back ordered, but I draw the line when it comes to them out right lying to me. Oh and did I mention that when I finally received the kit (which was a gift for my brother) that it was missing parts? Try telling a ten year old boy that the kit that he just waited three weeks for is missing parts and that he has another long wait ahead of him. Not fun....not again.
