RE: how to make a rocket motor
Thanks B !!! Hybrids RULE !!! They are fun easy to build and kick @$$ !!! I got back into rockets around 12 years ago after Hybrids made a come back. My main interest was the lack of cost. The hardware cost more to assemble but it is easy !!!! And the fuel grains can be anything from PVC Pipe or poured rubber (HTPB) I have a forum for Hybrid info if anyone is interested : http://www.hybriddyne.com The info is FREE !!!

RE: how to make a rocket motor
ChopperMike I agree buying a two thousand dollar Lathe would be stupid !!! Why would someone buy a Lathe and have all that fun building Rocket Motors and educating themselves on how to cut metal and make all kinds of other parts ??? A really lame person should not look @ this Lathe http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=65044 It's a pretty good size and the quality is GREAT !!! It's a copy of a popular lathe and has every feature you could want !!! They come on sale all the time and Harbor Freight has discount coupons for % Off items from time to time. I am not the sharpest knife in the draw but was able to get one of these Lathes for around 1,500.00 and make up to $60.00/Hr making parts for others. A really popular item for Lathes are DRO's Digital Read Out's but can cost Thousands !!! Unless you go here http://www.star-techno.com/INFO.HTM The BT-2 will run you $599.00 balsaeater Way Kewl Rocket car !!! Dont you just love people with to much time on there hands !!! The Brits Richard ToeTag and Andy G. are taking a stab at doing 1,000 MPH on Land with there new car the SSC BloodHound. They will use a Jet powered car with a H2o2/HTPB Hybrid Rocket Motor that produces 25,000 pounds of thrust, around 50,000 Horse Power if thrust could be converted to Horse power. I have see one test fire in person and it was pretty impressive !!! Hybrid Rocket Motors should have the tanks vertical so they inject Liquid N2o into the combustion chamber. At the end of a burn when the Hybrid runs out of Liquid they still run for about another 25 percent of there burn time on gas called the blow down phase, Not much power and lots of smoke. I wonder if the RC car compensated this by running a weighted dip tube to pick up liquid from the bottom of the vehicle tank ??? My last project was doing Mach 3.1 until there was a glitch http://www.rockethigh.com

RE: how to make a rocket motor
icerinkdad Lighten UP !!! Maybe buy some underpants that are not so tight !!! Making rocket motors is no big deal !!! Hybrid Rockets motors are 100% Inert and do not require a permit or low explosive users permit. Here is a video of a 100% inert Hybrid motor with a burn time over 15 seconds and makes 350 pounds of thrust. The fuel grain is HTPB (rubber) and the oxidizer is N2o. The igniter is a small piece of solid propellant that even you could handle without hurting yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnGIWCzT75M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK3JCzMddLU Cheers

RE: how to make a rocket motor
I know this rocket guy who has a lathe in his upstairs apartment living room. One day he was getting rid of some acetone so he dumped it down the kitchen sink and burned up 3 apartments worth of ABS plumbing not counting his apartment. Then when it was time to paint the rocket he put it in the common garage area that he semi turned into a spray booth. The only problem was he didn't do anything to the roof rafter area and ended up painting three car to the right and three cars to the left of his common garage.

RE: how to make a rocket motor
The ATF guys are retarded !!! Shortly after 911 they bought a bunch of Aerotech motors and a van. The ATF built a bunch of rockets and tried to launch them from the van at a remote controlled airplane in hopes to prove it could be done by terrorists. The final result was the ATF had an accident and burned down there own van. You can make some really kick ass rocket motors that are 100% inert !!! There called Hybrids http://www.rockethigh.com

RE: the official traxxas villain thread
Just the two Venom motors and the prop kit, I added the Lipo batterys but no Lipo cut off yet. Very interested in the Capacitor you are running !!! How can I find info about it ??? Was it a stock item ??? I did buy two SV27 Brushless motors and two 100 amp ESC but opted not to use them after reading a brushless Villian article in the RC Boat magazine. The article said the same performance could be had using hot brushed motors so I used the SV27 setup in another project. I really love the dual outdrives so if my cat project does not work I will try to find a fiberglass hull as close to the villian as I can find and build the ultimate Villian with outdrives.

RE: Nitrorcx.com order issues
Beware Nitrorcx is a total ripoff !!! They sell cars that do not work !!! I have two cars that have problems and nitrorcx will not help me. I purchased a brushless buggy that shutters like a junkie on CRACK. The shuddering seems to be very common on these cars because there forum is full of complaints. I also have a 1/18 scale gas buggy and the servos twitch worse than a junkie on crack ??? There is a very small man there his name is andy and is worthless. He called me a crook and now refuses to deal with my problem. This small person has even went as far as to have me removed from the help forum ??? Let the buyer beware nitrorcx is a rip off and does not stand behind there defective cars. You can get the same deals with namebrand cars from Tower Hobbies for almost the same price, the only difference is Tower Hobbies will back up there sales and make the customer happy. Good luck to all those battling nitrorcx for refunds !!! My 1/18 scale nitro buggy said it had oil filled shocks and when I got it the oil and seals where all replaced with air ??? Just another example how nitrorcx will rip you off in any way they can !!!

RE: Launch help
If you really wanted to do somthing out of the box why dont you make a launch tower ??? Do a google search on launch towers and you should find some really kewl designs It would be two sets of rods for each fin. Generally the smaller solid rockets come up to speed pretty quick and dont need much launch guidance. My last project was doing mach 3.1 until it glitched http://www.rockethigh.com
