RE: What's up with AVG Antivirus blocking Classified Ads?
Hi i have had the same problem but i also have had a few virus's from this web-site before so be cautious. To fix the problem down load Google chrome and register as your browser. They have a block tracking feature i have just done that and it works as here i am, but be warned do a virus check after you have finished with this site as its full of virus. I have been blocked for a couple of weeks not really a bad thing as i spend to much time here anyway but know i have to catch up. Dave.

RE: Meister Scale P 47 - step by step
Hi Mirce, i have been following your build from the beginning, very nice clean work. Your Evo is putting out almost the same as my 3W85 i am getting 18kg thrust at about 6000 RPM with a 26X10 Chinese prop there is a bit more in my engine but those numbers do me fine. Mine is in a T/F P47 kit build at about 35 Pounds and it really honks at those figures. Good luck with the maiden, don't forget the video so we can all share in it. Dave.

RE: Quadra 75 in a Top Flite P-47
Hi, i have a P47 with a 3W 85cc in 15 flights no problems, it balances without any lead but mine is a built up and i have reinforced the fire wall and other bits. You will find the Quadra is ok no problem and not over powered , but if its an ARF it flys great with a DLE55 so the 75 should be ok. If its the ARF just hook the engine retracts etc.in a temporary fashion to check the balance and go from there.

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Hi Steff and Pete, i must say i love the GT 80. The 3W works out about $1100 by the time you have bought the overpriced silencer. The trouble with 3W is everything is overpriced. I stuffed it in big time when a regulator burnt out on my TA152 and a new crank and rod was needed with Erny's input turned out to be $350.The ignition was quoted at over $200 stupid prices so i bought a Rexell for $60 instead. Also i have found out that the DLE 55 silencer fits as well. That,s what i have fitted to my Sea Fury What does the GT80 sell form and who is the seller? It would be good to have a link to that Video Steff. Where did you get the headers from on your exhaust and what is the black stuff that is joining the flex pipe and where did you get the flex pipe from.? Dave.

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
I had 2 more flights today with my P47 with a 3W85 in and just of of interest i put a fish scale on the tail to check the thrust. It has a Chinese 26X10 prop and was turning just around 6100 RPM and put out 18KG of thrust on the fish scale and in old money that's near to 40 Pounds of thrust. The aircraft weighs 35 Pounds dry so a good ratio. Dave.

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Hi Pete, looking a the revs. you are getting out of your GT 80 i would be interested in know much in the way of static thrust you are getting? One thing about the GT 80 is you will never wear it out and it is known for loving high revs. I will test mine on Friday that's if the wind dies down. I have a cooking hobby-king 26X10 on my 3W85, i keep wrecking the expensive props so i am down to the Chinese, and i keep doing those as well. I know static thrust is not the be all and end all of power but it still would be interesting. Dave.

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Hi Pete, 42 pounds i was thinking along those lines myself. I may go for simplicity and put the cylinder and exhaust down. Yes the 3w85 has gobs of power i have one in my T.F. P47 so i have a handle on the workings. I have just pulled out the Robart retracts from my P47 9 flights and 2 collapses with the retracts. The large Robarts are no good above 25 Pounds they have a plastic end piece and if you don't get the landing spot on the side load punches a hole through the end bit only costs $15 but the 2 props were expensive i have put a set in from Custom retracts, Al who now runs Custom retracts is a flying mate in our club and he usually spots for me when i fly. The Sea Fury has custom made electric retracts that the previous owner had made they look solid enough but until i test them with one of my landings!. The problem with his home built retracts is he has nailed them in and no easy way for removal, and experience tells me at some time they will need removal. I have a set of new Century Jet ready but they don't have much street cred. from my mates. Dave.

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Hi Pete, i picked up a one of Erny's M.D. Sea Fury's that had been started and the previous owner had lost interest. Is your Sea Fury one of Erny's? I am at the moment fiddling with a 3W85 and wrap around silencer trying to find the best position. On my other big gasser's i have put the cylinder down and the wrap around exhausts also poking out down and behind. What sought of set up for the engine and exhaust have you done? Could you show a pic. if possible. I have been thinking of putting the cylinder on the side and modify the exhaust to come out in the correct position on the side.It would take a bit of mucking about with the exhaust stingers. What does yours weigh? with the GT 80 in? Thanks Dave.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi mad web tv scientist Yes i do balance all my props, and i don't balance the hubs so all my props balance at the horizontal position. I think that the hub is so close to the center of the circle that it should make little or no difference. I have not run the engine yet with the spinner but its not far off. I have just pulled all the Chinese servo's out and replaced them with HT.645's. I thought i would give the Chinese servo's a look in to see if they were any good but no i could push them back even at 6 volts, so no more Chinese servo's for me, maybe i bought a dud brand, most of us use Chinese batteries etc. and a mass of other Chinese stuff but it does have a higher failure rate then radio control gear not from China. I have a Smart fly in the Spitty and its about $200 landed from the USA and the Chinese equivalent is about $45 but some things you have to buy more reliable gear, and pay the money. Dave.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi lovehydro, i put my 1/5 Pica spit back on the balance board today and it needs 4 Pounds to get it to 4 1/2 inches back from the center of the leading edge that would make mine 32 and 1/2 Pounds and its still in undercoat, i always test fly in undercoat. For me that's to much added lead weight. What i have done is cheat i have extended the nose by 1.5 inches and now it only needs 1 Pound to balance at 4.5 inches I will start at that and reduce the weight as it will allow on the test flights. It is not going to be a high end scale aircraft any how and the extra 1.5 inches on the nose turns it into a MK.9 with big fat cannons. Its hard to tell by looking at it unless you are a Spitfire Guru. Dave.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
hi mad web tv scientist, thanks i now understand that the cut outs balance each other out, i had trouble getting my head around that, i still don't fully understand why? but i have asked around and what you and other guys have said are the same so now i will try and balance as you have described. Thanks again. hi lovehydro i am now in the process of balancing my Pica 1/5 Spitty with everything i can think of and a heavy spinner on the nose and a DLE 55 mine with the wheels down balances at 6 inches back from the front of the center of the wing, as the plan but, i asked around and remember that i had seen in other blogs that the C.G. was wrong. Thanks for the description jet22b it has most likely saved my aircraft and now have confirmation of the correct C.G. my Spitty at the moment is 27 Pounds ready to test fly but it now looks like i will have to add a few Pounds more to get the C.G back to 4 and 1/2 inches. Hi. moto-x i would go for the 4 1/2 inches like me and i hate adding dead weight. At the moment its 27 Pounds and the wing loading 47 oze per sq. foot not to bad. Did you have fun fitting the retracts what a pigs ear to get them in, the main spar is right in the way it was badly designed from the beginning i had to cut the main spar and build an extra box section spar in front of the retracts.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi mad web tv scientist, thanks for the reply so my spinner with added weight should stop in any position in its circuit when spun and i will be compensating for the cut outs with the added weight, at the moment it will only stop in the position shown in the photo. Dave.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Can any one give me some pointers on balancing a spinner. I have put a search on this site but nothing has come up. I have a spinner for my 1/5 Pica Spit that is heavy and will need a balance. I have it on my balance machine but what puzzles me is that it sits with the prop cut outs in a horizontal position so i guess you add weight to both sides at right angles to compensate for the cut outs and then it will be just a matter of fine tuning. Is this how it is done? I balance all my props. no problem but this is the first time i will be balancing a spinner. Also there is a shot of the back plate and a DLE 55 prop. washer the prop hole in the back plate is bigger then the prop hole in the DLE prop washer, how do i center the DLE prop washer over the back plate so i can drill the four prop bolt holes accurately because if its not centered it will throw throw the spinner off center and all hell will breakout on the engine when its running. The only way i can think of doing it is to drill the DLE prop washer out to the size of the back plate hole and use the shank of the drill to center the Prop washer and the back plate, and then drill the four prop bolt holes. There is only about 1/16 difference so not much chance of finding something as a guide in the back plate to center the DLE prop washer. Any ideas? Dave.

RE: Short film, something I didn't know about WWII
Ireland has two countries Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. The Brits. have Northern Ireland as part of the British Empire. Southern Ireland was neutral during the war, the Northern Irish fought with Great Britain. This invasion and splitting of the country by Great Britain has been a bone of contention for hundreds of years and accounts for much death and destruction over that time period, from both sides. The latest bout of fighting was stopped with a truce some years ago. Dave.

RE: The complete YELLOW AIRCRAFT SPITFIRE thread.
Hi Brad, i am running two 6.6 volt A123 life batteries into a smart fly to bypass the receiver bur the smart fly only regulates the receiver to 5.5 volt and does not regulate the servo power so my H/T645 have been working some time with the 6.6 volts no problem I am now trying the Chinese equivalent to 645 and so far so good with the 6.6 volts. As for the servo power going through the receiver with the 6.6 volts as you have i am not sure i guess it depends on how many servo,s you are running etc. Dave.

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
I agree there is no point having digital,s on a warbird. Hitec 645 all round and they don,t suck so much juice from your battery and have more grunt then you can use. On my latest Pica 1/5 Spitfire i am trying the Chinese equivalent of HT645. I thought that we are using so much Chinese gear and i use there batteries no problem and have a DLE55 in the nose, why not?. But i am using 2 X HT645 on the elevator just in case. The Spitfire is at the moment 26 Pound with all the main gear in 87 inch span and i will test fly it in undercoat as you see it and it should end up about 30 Pound finished, that gives a 47oz.per sq. foot wing loading My T/F P47 with a 3W85 is more or less finished and is 35 Pounds and as its a smaller 85 wing span that gives it a wing loading of near 60oz per sq. foot, six flights so far and it honks like hell. I can't seem to make the P47 pics bigger. OOps put two of the same P47 pics in. Dave.

RE: The complete YELLOW AIRCRAFT SPITFIRE thread.
Hi Brad, i have been using the 2200mah 6.6v life batteries for about a year with no problems and they lose very little charge if left, i left mine for one month and they both lost only 30 mah. I have two set ups and one that is flying it is in a T/F P47 3W85 at 35 Pounds. The set up in that is a separate 6 volt nicad with a heavy duty switch at the front for ignition. Two 6.6 volt life batteries into a smart fly via heavy duty switches. I am using HT 645 servo's and they take the 6.6 volts no problem the smart fly separates the power from going through the 14 channel Futaba receiver i have 11 servo's in the P47 and the receiver gets a steady 5.5volts as its regulated by the Smart fly and the servo loads do not go through it. the smart fly does not regulate the voltage to the servo's so what you put in is more or less what the servo's get. There are now high power servo's that you can use a 7.2 lipo with through the Smart fly but i have not used that system. I do not use lipo.s with regulators as i have used in the past as i had a regulator burn out and kill an aircraft. The second set up is in a Pica 1/5 Spitfire that i an putting in the electrics at the moment. Again 6 volt nicad heavy duty switch for ignition and two 6.6 volt life batteries through a Smart fly and two switches. The smart fly uses the two batteries at the same time and if one battery dies it will isolate that dead battery and keep using the second battery, well that's the theory i hope never to have to test it but for me the more redundancy the better. Dave.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi Tom i will have a look at my rudder. Hi Trent its a Rexcel and i have been using 6 volts with them for some time with no problems, they do say 6 volts is ok.in the Chinglish instructions. I also have a Rexel on my 3w 85 and have been running 6 volts on that ok . At 26 Pounds the wing loading is 48oz. per square foot. My T/F P47 with my 3W85 in comes in at 35 Pounds that has a smaller wing about 85 inches but its very fat and has loads of lift that comes out at 60 oze. per square foot and it flies great. Thats not to say i don't take spare underpants with me when i fly it. Also i had a regulator burn out on my 100inch TA152 that killed the battery and thus the aircraft so i no longer use regulators but then again if i had two batteries in the TA 152 as i use now it may have survived, sometimes experience can be hard earned. Dave.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Getting there with my Pica 1/5 Spitfire DLE 55 87 inches span. Two X 2.2 life batteries into a smart fly, Robart retracts . 6 volt NMH.for ignition,24 oze. tank. At the moment with all major item in its 26 Pounds it should fly around that weight and maybe 30 Pounds when the paint and finish is applied. The design of the wing makes it very difficult to fit the retracts, i guess when this was designed not many were using retracts. Millions of parts in the kit with lots of plywood where it was not necessary. On the box the stated weight is 12 to 14 pounds with a 1.20 to 1.60 engine and i guess fixed landing gear. Things have changed in the model aircraft world. I stretched the nose by 1 inch as i could see that it would be tail heavy, it has balanced spot on 6 inches from the center of the wing leading edge, and i have put all the batteries in the nose a bit close to the cdi. but we will see when its fired up. Has anyone flown one of these with the recommended cg. 6 inches from the leading edge as it seems a bit far back. Dave.

RE: Vailly Aviation Hawker Hurricane Build Thread
Hi, Stan was good enough to give me the fuselage and the good bloke he is he would take no money for it, but i did do an hour in the bush in shorts and thongs looking for it, with no success but our resident aircraft finder found it the next day. The wing was stuffed but the body is ok. It flew very well i was standing beside him doing the heavy model rego. with him as the pilot. He passed on the aircraft no problem and just needed to land and as he says he clipped the wing on the decent and in it went in a very thick snake filled hellish part of our club field. I put my Mick reeves Hurricane in a few weeks before and the wings survived i was going to marry them up but as my Hurricane was a Sunday flyer and was 15 years old i did not have the heart to put my crap wings onto Stans great fuselage so i will be going to Brad at lasor cut www.lasercutkits.com.au for a new wing kit, he has already cut me a fuselage but Stan has given me his so that's saved a hell of a lot of work. Stan is in the process of building a Mick Reeves 110 inch Hurricane. Dave

hi Erans in reply to your question on the air cylinder being held fast. I had one twist through vibration from a large gas engine and that caused the worst possible outcomes of having one wheel up and one wheel down and landing a 45 pound warbird in that configuration is no fun,so nail them in.
