RE: ZIROLI P-61 BLACK WIDOW BUILD
Mine is electric, it should be finished in the next couple of weeks and I plan on maidening it at old small municipal airport (1:1 scale runway ). You have had your hands full with your other builds. Thanks for the reply Sam.

RE: ZIROLI P-61 BLACK WIDOW BUILD
I was looking through your build log again looking for its weight and the only mention I saw was about using steel for pushing a 50lbs plane. I am just finishing mine up and the preliminary weight is 47lbs without gear doors or the pneumatic cylinders for them. This is 10% more weight than Ziroli estimated on his site. What is the weight of your P-61?

RE: Kellogg's AD5 Skyraider Build
Thank you for the welcome. I have to admit that I am pretty green with envy over your relationship with your little helper. I tend to introduce many new things for my boys and let them choose as they will. I guess one blessing in their disinterest is that their play area is in one end of the basement and my shop is in another and I have never had any "accidents" or them borrowing tools/planes. While the Skyraider is appealing, it is not on my to-do list at the moment. I am currently finishing up a Ziroli P-61, my build thread is on the "other" forum, rcgroups. On deck is the Ziroli Stuka.

RE: Good Third Foamie Warbird?
Not sure of your budget, but FMS (sold through Banana Hobby and Nitro Planes) has a foamie P-38 RTF and ARF. The ARF is $219 and the RTF is $269. It is 57" wingspan with retracts. I bought the FMS Stuka and the quality is great.

Sam, reading your previous posts you mentioned the brass tubing that you use for the rivets. What is the size of the brass tubing 4-40, 1/8, 3/32...?

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
Well, forgive me if this is easy as it is my first time asking the question. The first three clues are 1) Designed in 1935 2) Flown by the following RAF, Luftwaffe, RCAF and USAAF/USAAC 3) Was known for its very large tail.

Perhaps subconsciously you like the excitement of landing without an engine or gear fully deployed.

RE: ZIROLI P-61 BLACK WIDOW BUILD
Sam, Post #54 you install the front retracts and I am about to do the same. I eased the first three formers on and slid the hardwood stick through the intended holes. I am finding that the centre line for the retracts bolt holes is a little over a 1/4" narrower than the centre line for the hardwood as cut. In your post you kinda touched on this saying the holes are close to the inside edge. Did you, when you create the 5 ply doublers for those formers, bring the hardwood closer together? Sorry for the spam. Thanks, David

RE: ZIROLI P-61 BLACK WIDOW BUILD
Not sure if you saw my build log and saw I only had one air tank but the other one is in transit from Ziroli at the moment coming with the brake kit. I asked Diane from Ziroli to substitute what came with the brake kit with the extra large robart cylinder. From your experience and comments on my log, I will be using silicone to secure the cylinders, therefore they should not rotate. That must have been a stomach turning sight seeing the gear not fully deploying. I am using your build log almost like instructions...thinking ahead, any chance that you might be doing the Ziroli Stuka in the future? [;)]

RE: ZIROLI P-61 BLACK WIDOW BUILD
First off...GORGEOUS looking plane! I have read and re-read these posts a few times and am amazed every time. I bought the plans for this plane this spring, bought the short kit last month and plan on spacing out the rest of my purchases over the next couple of months in anticipation of a fall/winter build. Sam, knowing what you know now with a bunch of successful flights would you change anything with your build? Thanks, David
