RE: L-39 Skym. my building experiences
OK, It took a little longer than 3 weeks. Had lots of work, Jet WM and vacation in between. But last weekend it was finally done and I was able to maiden her. Well it doesn't only look good, it also flies good!!!! The final weight dry ended up at 12,6 kg, I fitted the cockpit and pilot as options. You will need a pretty heavy nose to get the cg right, I ended up with 2x JetCat 1250 mah nicads and 2x 2500 mah lipos in the nose cone. Take off was in about 80 mtr on a grass field with the recommended 15 mm of TO flap, just a few clicks of trim to keep her level, control throws are a bit much for my liking so I brought the elevator back to 25 mm up and 20 mm down, ailerons 20 mm and landing flaps I applied 40 mm. Plane is very stable on landing with flaps deployed and no trim change needed. She flies very good and the gear functioned well under the landing load. The main gears are fully bottumed at take off so a modification of the main gear with a end damper is probably a good idea, the nose gear has to be a little stronger to keep the heavy nose high on take off. Without these modifications the first 5 flights went very well, just think the plane will be even better when these modifications are done. So, in the end I am very happy, the plane is a real stunner, flies good and has a beautifull sound. Greetings Han

L-39 Skym. my building experiences
Hi, for those who are interested here are my building experiences with the L-39 of Skymaster ARF plus. When it arrived I thought the box would be too small to contain everything I needed. The cockpit had already arrived a week before that and I was very impressed with the quality. So high hopes before the box was opened, the first impression concerning quality on opening the box stays alive. Everything was packed very good and no damages at all. Also a pleasant discovery that everything I ordered was there. Surface detail, quality and paint work were of a very high standard. I started to build the stabs first, reading the manual made me discover that there were smaller 4,5 – 6 kg servos advised for the two stabs but I decided to go for full size servos. I had to make a greater opening to make the fit but if you keep it limited to the size of a 8411 it has a snug fit. Then the first little problem I ran into was the assembly of the rudder, even if you keep the top clearance to a minimum the bottom clearance to the fuse is simply not enough to make it move it 1 to both sides. So I had to sand the bottom down for about 1,5 mm to get enough clearance. Of course there was not enough material left so I had to strengthen the bottom part again to keep it strong. After that I went to the wings, flaps were straight forward however I like my flap linkage to be unloaded with flaps up so I changed the servo lay-out so that I could achieve a cross linkage of the flap. Worked out great and I think it even looks better this way. Then the ailerons, I glued the wooden blocks per manual to the top wing skin and tested the setup because I had my concerns if that would work. My concerns were right and the top skin flexes way to much to make this setup work. There should have been a servo box constructed to take out the flex. I made one myself to strengthen to servo setup and went on with mounting the main gears. There was a bigger problem, the oleo’s are too long, the wheel to big, etc etc. Witout alteration on the gear and on the former you cannot get it to work with gear and gear doors installed. Even now with shims installed and oleo altered the setup is critical. The doors are not rigid enough but cant be strengthened because there is no room. This part of the plane I dislike the most, the gear looks superb but the fit is bad. Nose gear is fine, very nice unit and linkage (airworld type) is very good. Fuel tanks are fine too, in Kevlar much more rigid than the older glasfiber tanks. I am now installing electronics and turbine, the weight of the plane with almost everything installed (w.o. receiver, turbine and accu packs) is 8,6 kg which is a very positive part of the L-39. I am sure now that the dry take off weight will be around 11 kg. Will keep you posted on my maiden flight resuluts and the last part of the install in about 3 weeks from now. Greetings Han

RE: Weatronic Receiver Supplier
Hi Mark, All settings you do in the reciever are done by computer, but ofcourse small adjustments can be made by the transmitter (subtrim/control throws/etc). For me it has been limited to one time final adjustment on the field and the rest was done at home, but the adjustment on the field was not necessary could have been done at home too. But if you want to adjust gyro settings or see the gps data directly after flight you would need a computer on the field. Greetings Han

RE: Weatronic Receiver Supplier
Hello, In our Jet group we have 3 recievers since 6 weeks now, 2 basic 10/20R's and 1 with gyro and GPS. Soft ware is beautifull and programming is super, I have a BVM F-100 which has 6 servos on the flap channel (4 slat servo's and 2 flap servo's) this was 10 minutes set-up time to get a perfect result. Also the automatic synchronisation of the 2 stab servo"s 2 minutes!!!!!. I love that, we had an early software version which had a transition between low reception and pcm hold in which the servo's made small uncontroled movements. That worried us a lot but with the new software that problem has been solved. One small downside we experienced sofar is the lesser range during ground check. Because that could have been because of the way we installed our antenna's we made a free field test with weatronic and the original reciever side by side on a wooden plate on 1 meter height. On both receivers we connected 2 similar servo's and the range test begun. with the weatronic we surpassed the 90 meters that is specified in the manual so no problem there but the weatronic made it up to 115 - 120 meters and the original receiver made it to 135-145 meters. We had the weatronic scan the frequency several times but we got no improvement there. To set everybody mind to ease, we also flight tested it and we experienced no range problems there but got down to a field strenght of 0,20 at 800 meters distance (GPS is so cool!!!) real reception problems start at 0,12 - 0,09(PCM hold/failsafe). I must say this is our experience with our methode installing the antenna's, maybe a different install will give much better results. Still with confidence I will fly my BVM F-100 with the weatronic receiver it would just have been a better feeling if I would have gotten the same or better results with the range test. Greetings Han

RE: Interesting notice on BVM home page
Hello Guys, I dont think comp. Arf will bring the bobcat and the kingcat to the market even if they are convinced they own the moulds. But remember that is it us that support these incidents!!!! If composite would bring a cheap King Cat or Bob Cat (which I still think wont happen) it is to us customers to not buy it.....................if we wont buy it there wouldnt be a problem. So if a company brings a cheap rip off it is us customers who support there actions........ Greetings Han

RE: NEW C-ARF Mig-29 Hydraulic Gear Update
Hello Guys, I own a Mig 29 too and I must say that mine was missing a few parts when I bought it from the previous owner. I contacted Wolfgang and he was very helpfull. The first delivery was not complete but I have been assured that Andreas would bring the missing parts to Germany comming or last weekend and they will ship them to me. All contact sofar has been OK. I have visited David a few months back and was very impressed with the flawless functioning of his gear, his alterations to the system work that is sure, I will have to crack the gear problems in the near future but I think the new conversion C-Arf offers is one of the right ways you could go. When building goes succesfull my next JWM will be with the Mig 29. Greetings Han

Hi, I tested it tonight on my P-80 with a fully loaded LiPo 2000 Mah, started the engine and a immedeat shut down after stabile idle and did a cool down (not long with 4°C outside). Loaded the LiPo again and it took 110 Mah. Hope this helps with the questions you had on Mah. Greetings Han

RE: Jetcat kerosene start option
Hi Roger, I am not a rep. but I have a kerosene start on my P-80 and it works flawlessly every time even now when it is 4°C outside. I use a 2 cell lipo of 2000 mah as ECU battery and I see no real difference in the amount of flights I can make on 1 charge. It a nice sound when it starts on kerosene, I find it different from starting with gas. Greetings Han
