RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
Thanks Bob and Thomas, I'll see what I can do with that. I also think I remember Evan Q. saying something about flutter with the heavier composite control surfaces.

RE: 1/6 Dragon animatronics pilot!!
So Dave, tell me if I were to do this to one of my dragon figures is it possible or exacly how would one link the receivers so that when say you bank left the pilots head moves left and so on. Or is that what the stand alone receiver already does is pick up your radios signals and acts as a second receiver for the pilot only? Thanks, Curt

RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
I will be starting on the cockpit next, as my garage has been to cold to paint in the last couple of weeks. I am also going to start hysoling in place the flaps and ailerons and start installing servos but have one small problem, I have not installed the aileron horns yet as I have no idea from the instructions how they go into the aileron. From every angle I do not see how they can be installed and still clear the covers. Before I cut a slot in the ailerons I want to make sure I do it right, could anyone post a good close up picture of their setup so I can see how they are affixed into the surface? I would appreciate it so I could move forward with that part.
ORIGINAL: iflytailies I have one 1/4 scale Fw-190 kit in stock. Or do you need 1/5?
I need the 1/5 scale 190 cockpit. I just placed an order with you for the side panels tonight so just let me know when you receive the instrument panel and I'll get that from you as well too. On a side note I almost have the ziroli Stuka instrument panel finished and I must say it is worth every penny! I couldn't be happier with it!

RE: Raising Engine Centerline on Top Flite Giant P-51 Kit
For myself to get better scale looks I'm happy with I used the spychalla cowl, an aerotech scale canopy kit, a stab relocate kit I can't remember where, and used aerotechs scale inner and outer gear doors. The only other thing that really looks out of scale on mine now that stands out is where the lower rear fuse and rudder bulge out. But if I had to pick only 2 it would be the cowl and canopy, the canopy itself is way off. The top flit kit is great for doing mods to, and is very affordable.

RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
Shots of the ECT 501 pylon and radio antenna. I am going to start build up of the step as well. Still unsure about the air cylinder idea, as Invertmast said as far back as it sits behind the wing I estimate it will take around 3 oz of nose weight to offset so I don't know if the option will be worth the extra weight. I probably should throw some batteries and servos in the nose and get an Idea of how much ballast I need right now before I add to the problem. I will at least add a manual step as you did Thomas a couple of grams wont matter and I would be happy with just that. I can't help just staring admiring the plane just thinking what else I can add to it. At least with a detailed landing gear bay that is forward of the CG. I also started work back on the Stuka this weekend. I won't post a build thread on the progress up to the current in primer. But I might do a thread on detail and finish I havent decided. One thing on the ECT 501 pylon is a lot of builds I have seen the upper portion painted black but on all my photos the lower portion below the rack is painted black so that is how I painted mine.

RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
Did some more painting this weekend. I finished up painting almost everything else. ECT 501 pylon, radio antenna, spare drop tank, repainted cowl mottling, underwing crosses all finished. It is amazing how long it takes to mask the insignias. Probably worth it to spend the 70 some odd dollars for paint masks in the future but it is very rewarding for me when that final tape comes off and I see the finished product that all that drawing and masking effort went to. All that is pretty much left is painting Blue 13 and the nose art. Then it will be weathering. I am going to do a detailed landing gear bay and flap bay at a later time then I will paint them RLM 02 Probably when I am doing the cockpit. I just am really pushing to get the exterior paint finished. Still unsure of my weathering skills I am going to use the 1 good wing panel from my wrecked 190 and use it for a canvas at weathering attempts and styles to try and get one that will be satisfactory for myself on Blue 13. Here are some shots of the weekend progress. I think that time in just masking the two colors on both underwing crosses took at least 2 hours. I will add to the cowl mottling slightly after the nose art is on. I know exactly where it will go but won't know how much mottling to add until after it is on and I can determine. shots of 1 wing cross and the cowl as it is tonight.

RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
Here is the tail gear for my 1/6 190 that is in the scrap yard. I'm trying to decide if I should try to sell it for a good price or keep it. Here is what I am thinking if i keep it...... Like many Sierra FW tailgear I have seen here on RCU there is a problem with the cylinder glue that holds the cylinder to the gear. When I removed it from my plane I noticed immediately the shock from the crash broke the glue separating the cylinder from the gear...... I have two purposes I could use these parts. I could use the steering arm, shaft and wheel fork in one of my sport planes that lost its tail wheel and part of the tailgear in flight. It would make a rock solid tailgear and weight wouldn't be an issue as I don't use it for 3D and it has a very light wing loading. Then with the more important second idea[:D] I am going to have an air cylinder sliding canopy on a second air tank in Blue 13. I was thinking that this air cylinder of this gear would be the perfect length for the FW retractable step behind the wing. I could Y the airlines to a single valve so when the canopy is open, the step is down, When the canopy is closed, step is up. I don't think the setup would weigh much more than an ounce and being just behind the wing I would only have to add an ounce or so to counterbalance the addition. I know weight is critical on this particular plane but if your talking 16-32 oz of nose weight ballast what is one more.........[8|] Thoughts, comments?

I also decided for at least this week due to my fund situation that I won't be ordering a replacement plane for the lost ESM 190 I am just going to push myself to get this one done and my Ziroli Stuka by Spring and fly them. As much as I want the ESM 109 I still need to order servos for Blue 13 and an engine for my Stuka.

RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
I also finished painting the inner portion of the flaps and plan to get them finally glued in place soon. Also in preparation to finally getting Blue 13 on "Blue 13" I free handed the stencil I will be using to mask. I decided it would just be easier for myself to do it this way so I got the dimensions I needed and drew one out.

RE: ESM FW D-9
ORIGINAL: ticketec
ORIGINAL: Whistling Death You are aware that dinosaur G45 will outlast your XYZ by decades right. [;)] None the less you guys have piqued my interest in the XYZ, for no other reason, it will fit inside a round cowl of a lot of 50cc planes, it runs smooth and has a nice throaty, almost 4 stroke, sound. One other reason, it's cheap as dirt. But you know the old saying. you get what you pay for.
yeah possibly... but for the same money you can buy 2 of the XYZ. I know that zenoah has a very large loyal following, especially in the US, but to be honest i really don't understand it. For me, it's paying top dollar for 30-40 year old technology, does it work? yes, but so did Ford model T's and Atari's. Not sure they would be anyone reading this on their Atari??[:D][:D] or flying with their AM radios. A DA or DLE have proven to be just as reliable, put out significantly more power, and a lot lighter weight, for less money, but people keep going back to zenoahs?? I guess for them it's a case of the devil you know rather than the facts. Another classic example is the Harley. Now I'm sure I'm going to step on toes saying that, but you pay BIG bucks for genuine 1940's technology[X(] (sorry I don't buy into the status symbol crap etc[8|]). Horse for courses. Is an XYZ going to outlast a Zenoah, don't know, probably not, but I'm keen to find out!! And so far I have been very happy with my two pots of rice[:D] Thanks dave
I go either way on this one, I have Zenoah engines and also have newer electronic ignition engines. Doesnt really matter too much to me as long as the price is right and I get what I want and it fits into the plane with little or no cutting. In my mind I think why many still use Zenoah is two reasons, 1 being if it is reliable and works great then they don't worry about changing anything. 2, Technology scares many people so when you start saying something is new, or the latest technology it turns many away and won't use it. For some if your talking about a 3-4 thousand dollar warbird they don't want to risk problems in something that they are not familiar with. I do know that in the case of my SisT 190A I used the G62 for reasons as follows, reliability, the plane was designed specifically for it so I didn't have to change anything I just bolt it on and go, and I need that dinosaur weight up front to help my scary balance issues with an extremely tail heavy plane. Now for say the Ziroli stuka I am building for example my choice of powerplant is up in the air. I'm leaning on the DLE 55 for reasons it fits into the cowl, produces good power and is affordable with balancing of the plane not being an issue. I have thought about using a G62 in this one as well though but I hate to chop up my cowl. If I had the ESM 190 D9 I would probably go with the DLE55 or similar engine. Its kinda like Ford VS Chevy. You'll never be able to change the others mind about yours being better.

RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
Ya guys I'm pretty bummed out about it. Thanks for the condolences though. The failure was the ignition module and I had nor the altitude or airspeed to make it home. It was the second ignition module failure in this plane. I almost wonder if it was due to vibration, I had the module mounted on the firewall to keep all weight forward and thought I had it mounted to resist vibration but I did know that even with a perfectly balanced propellor and without the spinner this plane had pretty bad vibrating firewall, perhaps an out of balance motor. I have thought about just getting another ESM 190 but mine was the original all composite version. Plus it was kinda a pain to do all the mods like the removable gun hood, the scale retracting tailwheel (mainly mounting it and making it removable and acessable without cutting up the plane. I did it like SisT retracts are designed for removal with the rudder removable.) So I'm kind of thinking been there done that and thats why I'm leaning on the 109. Plus I still had the crappy ESM retracts so I would get the 109 with sierras. I just don't know right now. It would be more logical to buy the latest 190 version and just throw it together to get it in the air. I am also looking at the Flyboys ME-163 for something fun to play with. Either way its no hurry flying season here is pretty much over and I have 1 other plane flight ready at the moment if I get a chance weather approving to fly. If I were to buy the 109 I may have to mod it. There is one done in a swiss scheme on RCSB that shows what they are capable of looking like and I am craving a 109 done in a Hartman scheme. As you can see by the pics the damage to the fuselage isn't too bad but the wing is totalled. It stalled out and dropped wing first. I have no Idea how to even repair this ESM composite wing stuff so with all my 2 other builds going on I think its best to write it off.

RE: SisT FW-190 A8 Schwarze 8
Well I had a bad day today and lost the ESM FW-190A8 1/6 scale. If anyone needs parts I may or may not have them available. Up for sale for sure that is still ok is the ESM crap retracts, Skyshark 3 blade scale 190A aluminum spinner, prestine cowl (don't know how that happened) BCMA 26 CC engine, and a sierra scale retractable tailgear. Rear half of the Fuse is also salvageable for a rear section repair. If anyone is interested don't hesitate to PM me. Curt As far as the SisT is concerned, Mains are reinstalled and she is back on her feet, and I am starting to get my paint masks ready for the insignias on the underside of the wings. Just a little more painting and then the weathering can begin, I'm not very experienced in the weathering process so before I start on my 190 I think I will paint up some mock up panels and practice a bit before I do the airframe. Saddened by the loss of my other 190 I am now needing a replacement so I am going to have to break down and get something else. I really cant afford the ESM D9 right now so I am thinking about getting the smaller 70 inch BF-109 I need something that builds fast that I can get in the air right now so I think I will go with it. But if I find a good deal on something else I may change my mind. May my little 190 RIP [&o]

If not for the no Axis aircraft I would say the ziroli Stuka as well, main reasons I built one was the no retracts part and the gentle flying characteristics. Plus I like it on the dark side.
