RE: Antenna Position as Far as the Planes of Said Antennas

Antenna Position as Far as the Planes of Said Antennas
Most of the Futaba receivers that I have have 2 parallel antennas exiting the case. I would like to know the best possible locations for these antennas in relationship to each other.

RE: Antenna Position as Far as the Planes of Said Antennas
Rich, I was told that a technician at Horizon told the other flyer that parallel antennas was a satisfactory orientation. That's all I know.

Antenna Position as Far as the Planes of Said Antennas
I am mounting the main receiver antennas in a horizontal position and I am mounting the satellite receiver in a similar horizontal position. The planes of the antennas are separated by approximately 1 inch. There is no vertical component of the antenna. Does anyone have a comment on this mounting scheme? In my mind's view I see all the antennas are in the horizontal plane. Horizon has said the plane of the antenna serves no purpose.

RE: Are the new Thunder Tiger 40s actually 46s?
I am the lonely .40 LA Racer that is flown in Amarillo and I did not get lapped at all in the only race I flew. The 3 lapped person was another flyer a couple of years ago who was flying an OS.40LA sleeve engine and he did get lapped. There isn't any difference in the outcome of the races between the .40 and .46 except the ability of the pilot. That's why I wanted a race this spring with both displacements allowed during a race but at the end of the day the winners would be separated by displacement.

RE: Bootlegger?
Dwayne, I have not seen this but took a quick look. It is all very interesting and from people that don't have a lot of knowledge that the first 2 Bootleggers were built from wood with foam wings and stab. Steve Helms I just received this from Steve.

I have 3 Bootleggers that are from Southern R/C kits built in 1980 by Jim Simpson. One has never had the equipment installed into it. [:)]

Jim, I know as I have been watching you. I lived in the Dallas area from 1962 until 1981 when we moved to Orlando. We moved back to Amarillo, TX in 2003, thank goodness. All the faces have changed but Dallas/Richardson is/was a good place to live. [:)]

RE: Club 40/46 Race in Amarillo, 2013
No one here can stay on the course for 10 laps. The better flyer will win no matter which engine he/she is running. We have a couple that fly unlimited that are pretty good but past them anyone can win. I flew a LA Racer last race w/TT.40 and finished typically. I'm just trying to get some Club .40 flyers and the racers here to fly against each other to show that no one here has a advantage. Anyone from here would probably be flying in the Novice class anyway. I'm not trying to create a mess. If it doesn't work out we can go back and separate the engines to different classes.

RE: Club 40/46 Race in Amarillo, 2013
It would be a mix of .40/.46 flying together but not competing against each other. At the end of the day prizes would be awarded for the Club .40 Class and prizes for those flying .46 engines. Almost everyone in Amarillo has a .46 engine so to get them to race those engines were allowed. I'm flying a .40 and until I can fly a better course I'm not worried about the extra displacement. If the racers in Amarillo want to go to a Club .40 race somewhere else they'll have to buy a .40 engine.

Club 40/46 Race in Amarillo, 2013
Our club, the ARKS, is discussing having a Club 40 race some time next year. We want to allow the OS.46 to be used since most of our club members are using that engine. We would allow the two classes to fly together as the course is flown much wider by our members. The points would be 4,3,2,1 as normal w/o any distinction for the two engine sizes during a race. The awards would be divided into 2 classes though. Any comments, good or bad? [:)]

Please say "Hello" to Greg Doe for me. I'll guess he doesn't remember me but I picked him up at Addison Airport for a Formula 1 race in Dallas a long, long time ago. I even saw him at several NATS. I was the starter for the Lake Charles races and the director for the Dayton races. I hope he and his are doing well. [;)]

Why not get a Mirical or Jim Odinno switch which removes any switch failure to "on" and go from there.

RE: Lost a plane today
No one has suggested Spec/Jr's correction to fix "said" problem. Spectrum has a part called SPM 1600 Specktrum Voltage Protector that plugs into an un-used port or in parallel with a function. It's just a capacitor to hold the voltage up in case of a "brown out". How do all you people plug your 2 battery systems into the rx? Dwayne

RE: Spektrum vs. Futaba?
I had a similar brown out experience. Mine was a 260 with a brand new DLE20. On the first flight for all the equipment I was in my traffic pattern approach and turning on final when I lost everything. Anything I value will be flown via Futaba. There is a learning curve installing the dual antennas in the correct orientation. But, I am "afraid" to use the Spectrum equipment. Dwayne

I got 2 US Fire Arms and a 2 holster set so I can go play cowboy and Indians. They are .45Colt with and extra cylinder to shoot .45ACP. Now all I have to do is get to the target range. I'm happy.

RE: pull/pull wire crossing
I have a neat solution for the worry of the wires touching. Install one of the servo ends as normal but install the other upside down which will give you about 1/2" separation of the wires. It's not a big deal to do this. Try it, you might like it.

RE: AR7600 Receivers
You haven't had any problems? I had mine in a 73" Extra which went into a "brown out" at 3/4 of a lap on the first flight. I sent it to Horizon and was told to not put it in any thing with a wing span greater than 40". It was designed strictly for helicopters, not airplanes. I know that Horizon will not back up this statement and I don't have anything on paper. Just be careful. I've got 7 of these rx's, 3 new in the package and I am going to be very careful as to what airplanes I install them in. Dwayne
