RE: Frankenboat – Bare to the Bone
With the stinger made of brass tubing I had it parallel with the bottom of the boat. With an adjustable stinger I adjust it to the conditions, usually parallel with the bottom or only a degree or 2 of negative. I have no experience with a weedeater, I've always used a Zenoah, but with the heavier, lower power motor I think a little more lift from the wider boat is a good thing. Doug

RE: Frankenboat – Bare to the Bone
The Prowler also has a minor change to the bottom. I would go with the boat that everyone calls the Wildthing(I actually never gave the design a name) if you use a weedeater motor. When I built the first one I actually did use brass tube as a stinger. I used 3 layers of tube soldered together about 3 inches long and had lead teflon bushings in it. It worked well for about 3 years. I'll add a pic of it here and also a pic of the same boat with a stinger that I made later out of a piece of 1/2" thick aluminum. Doug
ORIGINAL: SS RC Boats As far as I last knew those rotary valve motors are not even allowed in the impba or namba....so no records can be set in the US!
Rotary valve motors are legal in the NAMBA GX classes. Doug

RE: NEW Zippkit rigger build
That engine is most definitely not a 231. It looks like an old G2d which is a 2 port motor and uses the same cylinders as the old 2 port G230 engines. The base gasket you have on there looks like it's from a later 4 port motor, either a G231 or a G260. The cylinders from the 4 port motors are not interchangeable with the 2 port motors without some machine work. Doug

RE: 72
If the stringers are printing that way, the computer is scaling them to fit on one page. The drawings are full size. There should be an option to print them full size. The easiest way to get them printed is to take them to a local print shop. Doug

RE: Deep V build
They are my plans, but it's not just one of the smaller boats scaled up. A number of years ago someone asked me to design a 6 foot offshore style boat. By the time I finished the design he had lost interest, so I just put it on the web for anyone to download. I've never built one myself. Doug

RE: Deep V build
I would go with one of these: http://www.modelpowerboat.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=84 or http://www.modelpowerboat.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=6 I wouldn't suggest downsizing the 72", it would be too narrow in my opinion after scaling it down. Doug

RE: New builder woody
For a 1/4" shaft you should use 5/16" brass tube. I put my shaft 1/4" to the right of center and as low as I can get it. I.m sure others will have their own opinions about where to put the stuffing tube, but that works for me. Doug

The boat looks great! I wouldn't add any weight til you find somewhere larger so you can really open it up. You won't know what the attitude of the boat will be til you can try it at full speed. Doug
