RE: Pica Waco YMF 1/5
this is a awesome flying airplane. i have had 3 and all weights between 10-18 lbs. at 10 with a o.s. 1.08 absolutely awesome inverted flat spins!!!! take off in 10 feet. just too light for scale take offs and landings. will land at a walk. at 18 lbs with a 1.80 4 stroke nice combo just a bit too heavy for some aerobatics. hope you can get in at around 14 lbs and you will really love it.

RE: CD ScaleDesigns Albatros CI build
ORIGINAL: abufletcher Yes, I know it's an insane question but...has anyone ever applied silk OVER koverall? [&:] Just thinking out loud here, but the koverall would provide a nice taut base layer (as did the doped silkspan) which shinks tightly to the wire TE. Once that's done, the pre-dyed silk could be applied (using the edge-tab method) and sealed with either dope or polycrylic. NO PAINTING NECESSARY! Sure, I know it's crazy...but would koverall+silk+dope be any heavier than koverall+dope+paint? The habotai silk itself is virtually weightless.
to be honest i think it would just add unnecessary weight, once your koveral is doped its ready for paint, dope dont add much weight, latex based paints only a small amount as most of its weight is water.

RE: CD ScaleDesigns Albatros CI build
if you do go with the koveral dont use a heat gun!! you will over heat it and it will relax. use a iron over the surface set at about 350 degrees (only for shrinking!!!) when i use koveral i use thinned dope on edges then apply covering and dip my finger in the dope and rub it into the edges. it drys fast this way and really dont take long to go around the edges, make sure your entire wing is covered and edges dry before shrinking and do it evenly on both sides to keep from warping your wing.
ORIGINAL: abufletcher
ORIGINAL: eagledancer abu you might concider using sig koveral and dope. love the stuff and i have used nelsons over dope. as well as latex over dope.
Using koveral doesn't appeal to me in the same ''old timey'' way as doing a sillk and tissue finish. It's just an emotional thing. Solartex is nice. Koverall is nice. [quote

RE: WW1 planes with rudder mix
i also recommend no mixing, yes it takes awhile to get used to it but after awhile it become automatic. use rudder to turn and aileron to control the bank. the result is amazing tight turns that you would not have thought possible. after getting used to it try a very tight wingover!! that DR1 will turn around within its own wingspan without loosing airspeed!!!! this is some of what makes ww1 planes so much fun!

RE: CD ScaleDesigns Albatros CI build
abu you might concider using sig koveral and dope. love the stuff and i have used nelsons over dope. as well as latex over dope. my camel has a wire trailing edge what i did was use enough material to cover top AND bottom in one piece with the seam at LEADING edge. only tricky spots was the cockpit cutout on the upper wing.

RE: Sopwith Pup wing rib thickness advice
I also had a busa pup, change a few things to give more scale look but leave airfoil alone and its a very fun plane. if your after scale competition you need an entire different airframe, then go mick reeves

dont take any weight out of the front, all ww1 aircraft need as much weight forward as possible. if you can lighten the tail do that!!
