RE: George Miller F-4 Build - also, welcome George!
Hi George, I will take that advise to heart! I really appreciate it. My opinion on weight is the same as you. My plan is to power it with either 90mm or 120mm EDF units. I thought your main retract setup was really ingenious! Simple and effective. But does make repair a bit more difficult... I plan on the e-flite 120-sized electric retract units. Thank you again! Dave

RE: Trex450SEv2 1st HOVER...THROTTLE TWITCHING!?!?!?!
ORIGINAL: 500 lb. koolaid man I've got a similar problem. My throttle will randomly cut out for about one second, then comes back on. It does this fairly frequently, falls straight to the ground. And I know it's not the low voltage cutoff because I have experienced that and it works well. I also don't believe it's my battery since it does this at random times during flight, including the beginning of 15 minute flights with a balanced lipo. I'm going to try and disable the esc's governor mode this weekend following the finless align esc setup video, and I'm also going to change to his recommended throttle curve. Any other suggestions about my throttle problem are welcome. Thanks.
Hi, I had this exact problem. I thought was the ESC also. I tried several ESCs. Ranging from cheapo to CC Phx45. It all did the same thing. I finally swapped the cheapo receiver for the JR PCM receiver. All problems went away. (oh, I still fly on 72 Mhz)... It kept me mystified...

All the mid-air that I have ever witnessed have always have been just TWO (2) airplanes in the air. The remedy to the problem: get at least three (3) airplanes in the air.

You may want to consider electric (brushless motor) setup. It will easily outperform the glow-counterpart. http://www.ejf.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=82_79&products_id=195 http://www.ejf.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67_85&products_id=287 Dave

Now I am even more confused... (it doesn't take much... [8|] ) The retract is approximately 1" tall, with hole for 3/16" wire. I wanted a softer gear and went with 5/16" wire. The brass tube used to shim the wire can be seen in the picture. Dave

hapyjac2, I believe that they are the older 300 series. They have been collecting dust in the shop for a long time (at least 7 years). I looked up retracts.com and unable to find exact match. Dave

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Mark, Have you been able try other prop/motor setups? I am thinking to build it electric too! I've been working on installing retracts. Will post pics later. Thanks! Dave
ORIGINAL: MarkF I flew mine this weekend . I converted it to electric and got one flight in. First off I used what I had laying around for power. Neu 1521 2y with 12s 1p 3700 evo batteries. This set up is a little to hot because I could only swing a 9 X 6 prop. It tacked out at 26000 on the ground and it felt and sounded really good but it just wouldn't get up and go once it was up in the air. I think you need at least a 10 inch prop at minimum but an 11 would be better. My cg was at 9 1/2 but I think 10 would be better. My batteries need to be all the way back as far as I could get them. I had to dremmel out all the bulkheads so they could slide all the way back to the wing spar rod. I got rid of the front wing rod and drilled it out to 1/4 20 to hold the wings on. I think this was the easiest way to secure the wings. She wieghed in at 9 lbs ready to fly and I felt she handled this weight with ease. Now I just need to get a different motor or less batteries before I can fly again. Mark
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
I am not sure if this is appearant. I think the CG location as indicated (6.9 inches) may assume that the plane is balanced with an empty tank. (My JHH Mirage has tank aft the Aero Center and the instruction indicated to balance plane with a full tank) Based on calculation from http://jef.raskincenter.org/published/balance_point.html , Aerodynamic Center should be 9.74 from L.E. of wing root. Based on graphical solutions, Aerodynamic Center should be 11" from L.E of wing root (assuming 25% chord). Attached is a picture illustrating my graphical solution (aero experts, please make necessary corrections.) Therefore assuming balancing with a full tank, the CG should be between 9.74" and 11". Thanks Dave
