Need Meemory help- built up ace wings
I'm pretty sure that some where I saw plans for built up "Ace foam wings". I have recently gotten RCM plans for the sopwith triplane. The article supplied says finished weight is 3lbs. I would think 3 built up wings would be lighter. Does anyone know where I can find them? I DO shudder at building 3 wings but 3 lbs. seems a bit much for a .15

It seems alot of folks like the HOB 1/12 models. I'll be mailing the kit to the first guy to respond. Thanks for the interest I'll look thru the stash again and see if there's more.

!/12 scale HOB Fw 190
I have recently figured out that I have more kits stockpiled than I will ever build.[&o] The FW 190 is one for sure. I bought it because it came with a Norvel engine. If someone were to send me the postage, I'd send them the kit. Send a PM if interested.

RE: What planes are your Diesels in?
I got the idea it might be under powered when I talked to a guy in Albuquerque who had a .91 in his. I think that was a 4 cycle engine so so maybe equal to a 60? I'm at 4700 ft above sea level so will need more muscle for that. I'm still going to use the diesel, we'll see. I've heard of them flying with amazing small engines

I'm finishing the covering on a Sig Kadet Senior. I plan to use an OS FP 40 with a DDD Conversion head on it. Beginning to think it may be under powered.

RE: Honker!
I have a kit of the bipe, with the 1/2 size plan is a reprint of what looks like the construction article. It says that the top wing is more positive than the bottom but doesn't say how much. I can see the bottom wing appears to be at positive relative to the thrust line(2 degrees down thrust) and the top wing is more positive but how much I can't measure. Doesn't look like a lot though

RE: Who will take this on?
I built that plane back in 1972. It was a pretty good flyer. I used an OS 15 for power. I have the 3 constant cord wings and have thought about building another. Send me the plans and I'll pay your postage. In his construction article he told how to mix artist acrilics to make olive drab. That's how I found that they were fuel proof. Only drawback would be: not high gloss and brush marks in the paint. Ted

RE: cheap fuel tanks
Rog, The bottle has a screw on cap. It's about 5" tall and 2 1/4" in diameter. I'm sure that the threads could be cut off and save 1/2 inch or so if need be. The Sullivan tanks just have an opening to stick the stopper into. KE These things are the 'milky cann't see thru it' kind of plastic.

cheap fuel tanks
I am taking part in a medical study that has me drinking free fruit juice every day. The stuff comes in 8 ounce polyethelene bottles. Thinking quickly, I found that Sullivan diesel conversion kit stoppers fit the bottle. I hate to throw these things away but I can use only so many fuel tanks and I get one a day. I know thats some of the people on this site sometimes run larger than 1/2A aircraft. It would not be particularly cost effective to mail one somewhere. But I did think of Rog's do where several guys in the south east gather. If I mailed some to him, how many would be enough? Or is it worth doing? Ted

RE: Coming to grips with one's vision
I wore no glasses till I was 42. With both eyes open, I had 20/20 vision. One eye was near sighted the other was far sighted. The world was pretty flat and I had some fun eye strain headaches. At 42, I went straight to bifocals[:'(]. I spent 3 days trying not to fall down or upchuck. The world got round tho. Ted

RJL head
I presently have one on a golden bee type 049. It has a Davis crank in it. I haven't gotten around to run it yet. I don't know what to expect out of that RJL, don't know much about them. I'm not sure what prop to use, I plan to start with a 6/4. If it runs good, I've no idea what to put it in. Any ideas? maybe a texaco? Ted

RE: THE SCRATCH FOR .074 OR SIMILAR
I commented on this plane earlier. It seems a little heavy. Maybe 1/16 th for the fuse sides with 1/8 square trusses as reinforcements behind the wing would make it come in under 20 oz and be good. The idea is not to build it to withstand crashes but to fly. I think with a little work it would be a good one. I've already been to Kinkos. Ted

Scratch
I bought a Fly RC yesterday mostly because it said "Free Pullout Plan". The rest of the issue was all about ARFs, one set the author back 3K when complete. The plan wasn't exactly free since it has to be enlarged 250%. It designed for electric or Norvel .074. 40 inch span, box fuse and all up weight 20-24 oz. control is 4 channel. A little heavy? Might make a good aileron trainer. Designed to be a very simple first build. Oh it's named the "Scratch"

Source Fox 049's
Doug Martin is assembling Fox 049s out of parts. The engine is a single bypass sport. It can be gotten with or without a tank. Peter Chinn reviewed the engine in the September ’69 issue of MAN. Does anyone have this issue or do they know any thing about the engine? The engine without tank is $55 and with is $62.50 with a $6.00 shipping charge by USPS priority mail. Pricey if a dog. Might be another source for 049s. He can be reached at: dougsengines@hotmail.com . I don’t know if he can assemble any other type. I saw a reference on another forum and contacted him. I got a prompt reply.
