Crank ID
So I have 2 different style Nelson cranks I am assuming that one is for a Q500 and one is for the Q40. Can someone enlighten me as to which is which? Thanks

RE: Q40 Piston height
Yes, got a q500 that I've been flying with a nelson and just got a Jet engine for the 426 class. Got a Miss Candace that I have flown a few times but removed the engine, trying to get it going again for the Woodland race. Flown with Pat and Robert but dont think I have met Chuck.

RE: Q40 Piston height
Its a short stroke and thanks for all the suggestions. So Randy if I set it up to your numbers then run the thing, if it wont needle well then probably too much compression? Is the idea to creep up on the compression until you get peak rpm?

Not running at all, its in parts which is the way I got it. I have all the tools needed, figured if I got a basic idea of where to start I can figure it out. Thanks,

Q40 Piston height
Can someone explain or provide a link to a description to setting up a Nelson Q40 engine? Dont really understand setting the purpose or method of setting the piston clearance and or liner height. Is it just a matter of fiddling around with shims until the engine is running the best it can? Thanks in advance.

RE: YS 115 Bell mouth exhaust
Just had a thought that the curved interior of the pipe would create a low pressure area as the exhaust pulse was exiting. Thinking this would make things flow better through the engine. That and i was bored one day with a cad program.

YS 115 Bell mouth exhaust
Check out my new custom bell mouth exhaust. Only had about 5 min to test it tonight and looks like around 300- 400 rpm increase from just the stock pipe without the muffler. Probably should do some more testing but I am fairly lazy so I will probably just fly it. Think they came out pretty cool looking if I do say so myself. RE: Nelson q40 or 500 on 30%
Hey thanks everyone for the input. OK so 30% may not be high nitro but what I am actually trying to do is standardize my stuff. I fly all kinds of other things with 30% heli just thinking it would be easier to take one kind of fuel to the field. With the possible added benefit of a little more speed with the Q500 and Q40 planes. ARaptor, still have the plane waiting for you in the attic, give it too you cheap if you will get her going and not let it sit around the shop like it did with me. I'll give you a call.

What do you guys use for an elevator clevis? Worried that this will wear through the plastic on a normal clevis. Metal will definitely wear, already tried it.

RE: Hard landing
So the plot thickens, this makes no sense to me. I've been flying over 20yrs and never seen anything like this happen. So I got to take a closer look tonight and found that all of the servos are broken in a similar fashion and the receiver is all cracked and not working as well. Apparently I hit hard enough to crack everything inside the fuse but not damage the wing??? Any ideas?

Hard landing
Any of you guys ever had servo break from a hard landing? maidened this thing today, second flight I notice the switch is loose. Take it apart at home and find this: Servo mount busted and switch mount broke off as well. Bounced the landing but I didnt think it was that hard, only tweaked one gear a little no wing damage. Doesnt seem to be vibrating very bad? Any ideas? Thanks

RE: How much do used engines go for?
Last jet 50 I sold on fleabay I think was around 150. Dont expect to get anywhere near what you paid for it, probably not even 50%. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but thats pretty much how things are now.

RE: .25 VFDF issues
Should have said you dont need any other shims, think there is one shim stock. And if I remember correctly that engine is timed at 180. The 25VF has a bit lower timing.
