RE: nitroplanes mrs dara
Caution, do not expect any acceptable amount of customer service from Nitroplanes. After having a wing tube failure, referring to my prior post. I contacted Nitroplanes customer service thru their online portal, filed a claim. This the only way to start process or to contact Nitroplanes. Received a response within a couple of days which in my opinion is acceptable. I went thru the first CSR, then on to customer service manager. Bottom line is they are unwilling to do anything to make right on the ARF despite the faulty wing tube which resulted in the wing failure. Their excuse, the plane was out of a 30 day warranty, that warranty was in addition voided by the fact that the plane was crashed. Pretty poor warranty, and a real nice way for them to not make right of the situation. They did say that I could contact their design department but that there was nothing they could do and they were not going to replace the ARF. At that point I asked what was the point of contacting them if they were unwilling to make it right and they offered no resolution nor any further contact information. I warned them I would be making this post (also RC Group) and others. They did not seem to care nor do I plan to waste any more of my time or resources with them. I'm moving on, however, they will never get any of my business ever again. I will not hesitate to share this info with my fellow racers (NMPRA Forum), in addition the crash was witnessed by about 20 guys out at the club.[:'(]

RE: nitroplanes mrs dara
Steve, Hang in there, don't give up on EF1. The planes are cool, fast and if they are set up right, stable flyers. 2 years or so ago I had a Pogo, it had some CG issues, was not set up properly and it was a bear to fly. I crashed it, I was disappointed. It was me, not the plane. Wish I had it back! I don't know if you are an experienced pylon guy or not. If your not, get a racer to help you set up the plane for dual rates. For a full power take off, full right rudder (low rate), a little up elevator so it takes off straight. Make sure that it is slightly nose heavy for the first couple of flights. That will increase your landing speed but it will make it solid in flight. Use your high rates for landing, especially with any appreciable cross wind. They are all clean, have a moderately high landing speed but if you have the CG right they don't seem to have any poor tendencies. Right now I'm flying a Shoestring and a kit built Fandango out of Canada, Doug at Lazerworks. The Fandango is a wonderful flying airplane, so is the Shoestring. I saw a Proudbird fly today, it was described as an awesome flying plane as well!!![;)]

RE: Great Planes Cosmic Wind Club Racer
I snuck out to do some early season cold weather flying today. On my first take off roll the motor hatch popped off, ripped the gear off and planted the Cosmic wind right on its nose. I had already beefed up the screws on the gear based on some feedback I picked up on a forum. It made no diffrence. Upon inspection I found that one of the upper rare earth magnets came unglued. To make matters worse I found that the light ply holding the gear was not installed properly and was 90% loose hanging in the fuse. It was not located properly under the bulkhead and was attached with the same resin used for the fuslage construction, or at least that is how it appeared. I called up customer service at Great Planes and after a short wait and a somewhat detailed explanation they volunteered to send me a complete new fuselage, and rear control surfaces. Total class move! I was happy with the plane, it flys great, its disappointing to have to rebuild but they should be commended for taking care of me. That kind of treatment really makes a consumer, this customer very pleased. It won't be forgotten!

RE: Montana 2012 Pylon Racing 424&EF1
Leonard, Thanks for the update, appreciate all of your efforts. Talked to Leon last week and it sounds like we have opportunities to improve the overall racing experience. I look at this as a state and regional effort, together as a statewide team we can create a fun and exciting RC racing experience. The benefits to the local and regional RC communities is obvious to me. As always, let me know if you need any help. Hope you started up your bench racing drills, the new racing guys will need to be able to protect themselves against the Vets. Look forward to a fun filled flying season! Thanks! Rifle, never flown one myself, guy out at our field has had a couple. Saw the wing fail while being pushed beyond recommended speeds. Very cool, very small, fast and a challenge to launch and see. The guy is an expert flyer and you can tell he is not playing when it's launch time. Have fun, be safe.

Yes Three Pole for EF1 and 424, we would be glad to have you Grimmace. This spring will be the second organized race in some time so expect a safe, fun race weekend but expectations should be reasonable as we organize race help, everyone has a lot to learn. Last October's race was a blast and we had a lot of great feedback from the out of town racers. I have another forum discussing our races. So as to be respectful of the Albuquerque effort if you have any further questions please drop me a note on the Montana races forum. Thanks

RE: Getting started in pylon?
I agree, I just started flying RC last spring, was interested in Racing to help me improve my flying and challenge myself. I flew my first successful 424 race last fall and I'm hooked. The big thing is confidence. I'm also going to fly EF1 this spring. I was lucky to have some guys pushing, you will damage or crash planes but with some help you will adjust and improve. You learn more by doing for sure. Lot's of stuff will be new to you. For the most part racing folks like to help, give advice and be supportive. Good luck, fly hard, fly a lot, turn left and go fast!!!

No hard Data, use the 1200KV .15 rimfire and a 45c+ four cell and it has got to be close to EF1. 105-115MPH. Have Fun!

RE: Great Planes Cosmic Wind Club Racer
Thats quick on a three cell Wow!!!! I replaced my piano wire, used z bends to prevent any mishaps, forgot to mention that. Good call out Add Clark. I replaced the hinges as well, great minds think a like, LOL. Sound like you are geting the most out of that 1700KV motor and prop combination with the three cell. I have no idea of my speed, but I will tell you I think it's in the neighborhood of the EF1 set up I had on my Pogo??? I need to tach my combination but the other day I was racing light and by myself so I went for more flight time and less data. Can't wait till I can fly again!!! I do need to add that wheel collar on the tail wheel, I was looking at that the other night? Thanks

Makes sense, no rule changes needed though. Should be at the CD's discretion, provisions should be made while designing the event for a switch if the weather demands it. Thanks for the observation and discussion. Thanks

Great Planes Cosmic Wind Club Racer
Starting a forum on the reasonably new Great Planes Electrifly Cosmic Wind (white version). I want to start by emphasizing what an absolutely great flying airplane it is. It has four flights on it right now as I battle the Montana winter for flying time. It's been unusually warm but super windy. I was impressed from the start on the ARF. It went together straight and easy. I set mine up with speed in mind and went with the Rimfire .15, 1200KV motor. It fits perfectly with no modification and is a jump from the .10 Rimfire, 3 cell recommended setup. Some how I think they had that in mind? I'm running 8X8 APC with a four cell, 1800 MAH, 45C Thunder Power Battery with an Eflite 40-Amp Pro ESC. You have to change up the connectors if you choose this set up. Needless to say it is a Rocket. My recommendations are to make sure you customize the covering especially if you have the white version and choose not use the included decals. It is small and fast and can be hard to see. Beef up the size of the screws used to screw in the gear incase of a bumpy landing. The 4 cell batteries add weight, but if you get the right demension battery, slide it all the way back in the battery compartment it balances just 2MM forward of the recommended forward CG. Still slows OK for landing but it is a slick aircraft so make sure you have a good approach. Take offs are a snap, really very little torque and P factor issues. I was very surprised, after flying an EF1 Pogo, I expected some issues and lots of R rudder needed, not so. Use the recommended throws and you can expect a very pleasant flying airplane. Smooth Skies!!!!

RE: Montana 2012 Pylon Racing 424&EF1
Ok Fella's, We had our elections tonight, I presented my Billings, MT race dates in new business and they were approved. I know they don't work for everyone but earlier they were provided to Travis Elbert so that I could work around Helena and Spokane race dates, it looks like they are set. So here they are, May 26/27 and September 29/30. I'm hopeful that the second race may be AMA sanctioned. We will have 424, EF1 375' three pylon race course and a run what ya brung open class 450' two pole race course for the May race. The September race will probably be just 424 and EF1 due to the shorter days and possibility of weather. This is still tentative and may change (run what ya brung) depending on participation. There will be awards for first thru third place and fast time for all race catagories. All AMA guide lines will be followed. More details to follow. thanks

RE: Montana 2012 Pylon Racing 424&EF1
Man A.J., you sound just like some big old crusty racer guy from the west end of Billings, LOL!!!!! I'm nostalgic, I was fascinated by going faster and pushing my learning curve, just taught myself to fly last spring. My Dad taught me how to build and fly control line when I was a kid, I flew a Goldberg Gentle lady with a TD .049 power pod when I was 16, that was it for RC. Crashed a Goldberg Eagle on its third flight and hadn't flown again till last spring, 43 now so lots of years have passed. I soon found out about the rich racing history around here and I wondered why? Why not again! The BFM club is such a great facility, I would like to see her returned to her old glory days of racing, combat and pattern contests. Reunite the RC community around here, and get some revenue flowing to help us plan for the future. I've got two young boys, 3 & 2 weeks old and I want them to know RC like your Dad shared with you and your brother. I'm gonna keep on pushing with the BFM's best interests at heart! Thanks again, Ed NMPRA 23G
