Just picked up a couple of 109s and want to start outlaw racing at sams but I can't find a link to the rules anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated. EC

Darn you Jake! I was thinking the same thing! I've been wanting a Tiffie or Tempest since before you were born, so that gives me first dibs, right?[:D] Anyway, glad to hear you're considering the move up to silver.

Using the Macs pipe with the Evo 60 what length should the header be cut to? Also, how much performance difference is there between full tuned pipe/header and tuned muffler?

RE: 1/7 scale P-51 with YS Dingo, has it been done?
I swear it's true! I land, roll out, bring it to a low idle and do a U turn to taxi back, then when I add power to begin the taxi the plane starts moving backwards! I did take it apart to straighten the prop shaft after a bad crash.

If work allows, I'll come down from the Sac area with my WM Candyman w/ Tower 75. Hope to make it, 50/50 chance.

I have a DA 85. Thinking of the Beast with this motor and full pipe. Will that fit in this plane?

YS 110S tuning
At low idle my 110 sometimes actually reverses itself and starts running backwards! Also the mid-range is very rich and loads up and makes a lot of smoke. Transition to full throttle and top end is good though. Wildcat 20/20 APC 13-11 10600 rpms at sea level. Is my low end too rich or too lean? Also, should I reduce the fuel pressure a bit to cure the mid-range richness?

RE: 1/7 scale P-51 with YS Dingo, has it been done?
This isn't about a 170 Dingo or 1/7 scale Mustang but since there are a lot of YS knowledgeable warbird racers reading this thread, I have a question. My 110S reverses itself and starts running backwards at low idle. It is also very rich in the midrange. Idle to full throttle transition is good though. Should I go leaner on the low end screw, or go a little less pressure on the regulator? Trying to get this bird dialed in for the April race. Thanks. EC

RE: Kits?
One thing to keep in mind is that many of the kits that were sold back in the day never got built! Now you can find them on Ebay. In the last few months I've picked up a Jemco Corsair for $77, Jemco p-47 for $140, Royal Corsair for $275 and an old Top Flite red box P-40 for $135. I also see many Bridi, Goldberg, Sig and others up for auction quite often.

RE: Poor Man Setup- U Can Do 60 ?
Just maidened my UCD 60 yersterday with a OS 110a. What a sweet running motor by the way. Still running a little rich for break in, power was adequate for 3D. Once I lean it out I'm sure it will be great. With a 65 on this bird I'm sure it will fly on the wing great, but I doubt it will 3D if that is what you want. Maybe a full throttle hover?

RE: Lack of interest in WWI war birds ?
I'm a 3D and WWII freak, but when I watched the Robert Redford movie "Great Waldo Pepper" as kid in the seventies the finale really got me excited about WWI style aerial combat. Have yet to actually build a WWI era plane after all these years but one of these days I will.

RE: why not use sanding sealer
What a coincidence, back in the late 70's I built a HOB 190. I surfaced it with a technique I believe I read from the late Jim Meister. Brush on polyester resin with no glass then wipe off as much as possible with paper towels. After it hardens fill the remaining wood grain with vinyl spackle, which is a lot easier to sand than the hard resin. Once the spackle dries sand, prime then paint. Was actually quick and easy.

RE: why a cub?
How many "museum scale" DR1s do you actually see in person? Yet how many Cubs both kit built and ARF do you see any given weekend at the club field? I think this "professed" love of Cubs is quite genuine. Besides, a full scale Cub is so simple you don't need a museum scale kit to make a realistic one.

RE: ESC not responding!! Very frustrated
I've had the same problem on a few occasions. Usually what fixes it is go into the servo travel setup and set the throttle travel to max on both upper and lower limits. On a JR this -140% +140%.

RE: Airfoil for a MiG 15
Michael Selig developed a bunch of airfoils for scaled down models and they are widely used on the Great Planes airplanes. One of his airfoils the S8038 was used by David Ribbe for a Top Gun entered Mig 15 that he built. It is semi symmetrical 12% thick.

RE: Two Day Warbird Race in Sacramento
As a new guy I'll chime in and say the 90 120 550sq chart looks good to me. I also support keeping the minis out, too hard to judge relative distances if planes are too different in size. Might increase the chance of mid-airs.[:D]
