RE: Ideal drop system
chinese workers are getting smarter and demanding more hourly wage. Plus as supply and demand goes up the price to get a carton of anything shipped from china to US is also going up. Going to have to find another poverty country to start building stuff for us.

The Naval Academy does this about every year with 3 parachutes. Been making theres for about 5 years now. I caught on with 2 other Academy's as well once the word got around. The kids have sent me some results and the really were interesting. It was amazing how accurate you can guide a parachute down with electronics instead of human interaction. Sorry I don't sell kits though, it would be very rough for someone to take a kit and build a chute for the first time and get it to fly correctly.
ORIGINAL: rwilkie I just might.. what I really need is one that can handle a payload of ~1.5 kg. But for the price of the Hangtime chute I miight rather try to make one myself. Its for a school project. There's little $ but a whole summer quarter of time.
Our diver weighs in at 3.5 lbs, so you will be almost perfect in payload as we are. I know they are pricey but once you see one that all goes away. It's hard to look at a website and see the quality and craftsmanship that goes into these chutes. I actually have alot of schools using these for projects of dropping 5 to 6 lbs., we actually make them a special version of this chute so it holds up better under the extra weight. Let me know if or what you decide.

RE: Official RCSkydiving questions & help
yes, definately do not store your skydiver with the chute packed up in it's container. I do not pack the chute until we are ready to start jumping for the day. I almost always leave the diver hang from his feet and let the chute hang "naturally" how it wants. At the field I will lay the diver on the ground with the chute layed out flat on the ground for the sun to shine on it while we are getting other stuff ready.

RE: Official RCSkydiving questions & help
Hello roknHS, Yes we are still in business and yes still making skydivers. Sorry for the lack of customer support in the last few weeks. We had a death in our close family and we have also been working 12 to 14 hour days, 7 days a week at our other job. Usually when I have had time I have worked on orders and not emails. Things have settled down and we are getting back to normal with orders and emails. Sorry for this delay. Let me know what you are looking for or any questions you may have and I will get right on it. Thanks

RE: Low Posting Count
We are still here and business is just starting to pick up for the new year. No dives yet this year for us even though I have done some flying. The big thing for us this year is an airplane with autopilot so I can skydive by myself. This is the only way I can get more jumps in per year. So far so good on the experiment.

We do it with a 25E Ultrastick. Anything that can carry 20 oz. can take 2 of them up. Any 40 size high wing trainer would be fine also.

RE: drop plane help
ORIGINAL: cmoore806 hey guys I am building the wing for my super flying king. I am putting in hard points on the wing to carry up to four RC Skydivers. I dont know of anyone with skydivers or even have one myself (YET) so I have some questions. How much space needs to be between mounting points (centerline to centerline) to be sure they clear eachother. I dont know if it matters or not but would just two 4-40 bolts into the main spar be enough to hold an RC skydiver drop box? Lastly, how are other people managing the drop boxes servo leads going into the fuselage/wing? I was thinking of making a plug or something on the bottom of the wing into which the servos could plug into when the drop boxes are mounted.
We keep our boxs about 15" apart, our Hangtime arms are pretty wide so I would think that would accomidate any "standard" size skydiver. We use 4 - 4-40 bolts to hold each box, this just keep it rigid on the plane at all times. Yes the best way is to put outlets in the wing for the drop box to plug into, kinda like a charge cord. This keeps it neat and you could remove them if you want with no hassle. Awesome airplane by the way, I think this is thee best plane on the market for skydivers. But it is a big plane and not everyone cares to mess with that big of plane.

RE: Ideal drop system
This will all depend on who's skydiver you use. On our skydivers we strongly recommend you drop them belly down, in the flat position. We do not recommend head or feet first like you are describing. With the size you are looking for it seems to me the Micro Diver will be the only one that fits your bay size requirement. 6" x 10" x 4" would work for the Micro, it would take 18" x 14" x 9" compartment for the Hangtim Ultimate of ours. Most of us just make a provision for the chute pack to go into and the rest of the diver hangs out.

RE: R/C Skyjumper possable closing
Hey Don, I believe he ordered from us. Sorry to hear your not doing so well. A huge part of our business is done overseas, not here in the states. Also we make UAV parachutes and chutes for Academies all the time that keep us going between the skydivers. Selling skydivers is not going to make you a millionaire that is for sure. I think the American are preoccupied with the $99.00 world of RTF airplanes and helis. I'm not lowering my prices nor will I go to China to have my divers manufactured, so I guess we stick it out and see what happens. I have actually had a few people contact me that thought RCSkydiving was going out of business! The word has gotten around more than you think.

RE: Ideal drop system
We are pushing around 1650 watts with our setup on 6 cells in a modified Kadet Senior. Plenty of room to throttle back. With a 5000 mah pack we could drop at 800 feet easily 6 times, we have actual done 5- 1200 foot drops on one charge. We use 3300's some times and are getting 3- 1200 foot drops. These are all with one 3-1/2 pound diver on board. These figures are running the packs to 75%, so we plan to get a long life out of the cells as well. No mess, No hassle, No vibration, always ready to go we the jumper is ready. Just smooth pure horsepower.

That gives me something to shoot for. We have dropped higher than 2290 but we didn't have any real data at the time. Now we have this I plan to go see how high we can get. The long freefall would be cool. I have ordered another camera to get a better inflight video. That visio2 devise sounds really cool. I would love to see the specs of that.

RE: skydiver equipped with an altimeter.
Hey Gary, Yes the drop was definately not the normal. Usually we like to see when the diver leaves the plane.[:D] It looks good so far to be at the Muncie rally. I will know better after IRCHA if my son can get time off work. My brother is in Maryland now so I know he will not be attending. I had the Hitec telemetery in my jump plane, but the GPS unit is really crappy. The altimeter was not accurate at all with that unit so we scrapped that idea. Not sure about the Eagle tree, haven't read into it much.

skydiver equipped with an altimeter.
Well we got in another drop today. My skydiver is now equipped with an altimeter. Drop altitude was 2290 feet [X(] , and no thats not from sea level. Very windy so we didn't try a second jump. The diver was also wearing an onboard camera, but something didn't go well there and it never recorded any video.

RE: HobbyKing Paraglider Parafoil for RC Skydiver Questions
ORIGINAL: Robert_Ellis I purchased the HobbyKing parafoil which is 2.15 meters (85'') which seems big I guess. It was cheap and I wasn't sure what to do with it, but am thinking about using it for an RC Skydiver. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14284 What size / scale diver do I need? How much weight? Does anybody make one that is ready to go? Am I nuts for trying to do this?
This is the wrong way to go about getting into R/C Skydiving. For this chute you would need a diver that weighs about 8 lbs, just a estimated guess. Also the angle of attack is critical with parachutes, you would have to restring it many times until you found the proper angle of attack that it would fly good at. Quite honestly if it were as easy as buying a $25.00 chute and converting it to R/C we would not spend 5 to 6 hours sewing ever chute we sell. If you ask any guy in here that has a successful skydiver they will tell you they either bought it ready to go or spent hours and hours perfecting it so it would fly right. If they tell you the whole truth they will even tell you they spent a bunch of time hitting the ground with no chute at all. don't want to be harsh, or discourage anybody from entering the hobby, but it really isn't as easy as some people think.

Well it looks better to attend this year than the last several. If I can get my son to come along we will most likely be there. My brother lives in Maryland now so he will not be able to attend, being military he goes were they want him to be. Atleast we have actually been doing some jumping this year, which is better than the past couple. We took some video of the divers leaving the plane as well on this Saturday, I will post them as soon as we cut out the boring part. We got 4 fairly good videos of the divers release and chute deployment, plus you can see in the video of how high we really are on a few of the jumps.

RE: Anyone give me some info on RC Skydiving?
To all the guys wondering about the skydivers and controlling them. I believe the question has been answered about control, yes it can be done. Further more the chutes can be deployed on demand as well. Our Hangtime diver has 8" of servo travel to pull the lines to steer, this is enough to make him spin at a very high rate of speed, or completely stall the chute on demand. Yes the prices are more than some people think, until you see the chute in person and the quality of our divers one could be skeptical. The best way to find information out is just take a look at the various forums right here and read up and take a look at the pictures. If you want to know specific questions about skydiving or our divers in general don't hesitate to drop me an email or contact me through our website. We can set you up with as little or as much as you need to get in the air correctly. skydiver@rcskydiving.com www.rcskydiving.com

The weather has been interesting this year to say the least. We have only had the divers out twice, this guy now has 9 flawless jumps under his belt. We have video of him leaving the aircraft, but our camera angle was off a bit and you only see him for a split second. We will make the adjustments our next time out and get better video to post.

Very cool!!!! We have a "large scale" skydiver as well in our hanger. We will never offer it as a package to the general public but it is really cool also. I will get the specs of it tonight and post some pictures. He is around the 32" height also. The chute is sewn more like a really chute than a model chute for strength.
