RE: New Yellow F/A-18 Build Project
I am doing the gear by hand. If you get a pic of your gear and write dimensions on them I'll see what we can do. For what I am calling stage 1 I have the nose gear complete except decals and the final lense cover. I have just started on the mains, but told Kevin I'd get his nose gear done. Next week I will get back to designing the main gear detail. Canopy details and vertical stab braces are in the near future. I need to update my build thread.... Shaun I know I told you I'd do a scale hinge/hinge gap cover overview, but I am really busy. Call me if you want any help on it. Since I've been there and all :)

RE: Kitbashapalooza on a HK predator
Almost done. Need to add nose weight, so I will start on the new scale canopy, and fix the canopy hatch that fell off[:@] Have to shape the temporary foam spinner, and May start the camera turrett also. Kitbashapalooza on a HK predator
After being talked into building a nightflyer, I wanted to do something diferent and cool. The predator definatly fit the bill. I bought the HK predator, and 12 strips of lights. It would be recovered in white. I also was convinced I would stick my spiderweb infested .15 size eflight retracts in it for a nicer plane. The bottom of the plane will be filled in flat for scale lines, and also happen to help hide the gear when retracted. The Predator's build was as cheap and poor as I had read and thought it would be. One out of 6 ribs were actually glued in. The rest were held together via ultracoat. I see now why broken wings are common. I decided to use my park 480 with a 3 blade for scale. The plastic was sanded for weight and repainted. The plane is almost done now, but I intended to start the build when I started the plane. With an hour of ups showing up, it was just a skeleton. [image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-14_23-10-14_833.jpg[/image] Started cutting a hole for the nose wheel to fit.[image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-14_23-46-04_953.jpg[/image]Fitting the main retracts [image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-14_23-17-42_365.jpg[/image][image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-14_23-23-20_403.jpg[/image]Added a carbon spar to make the wings removable. Also glued the garolite spar that came with the kit into the fuse to give the center of the fuse the strength it would need. Also started adding lights [image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-17_22-01-28_654.jpg[/image]Tailsection recovered with lights installed under the covering.[image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-17_22-01-18_720.jpg[/image]

RE: Kitbashapalooza on a HK predator
Decided to add a rudder. [image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-24_10-49-48_759.jpg[/image] Some internals [image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-24_10-49-30_334.jpg[/image] Added a hatch for access to the reciever and rudder/steering servo. Its really tight up front with the retract and batt. [image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-24_11-17-18_193.jpg[/image] Finally starting to come together [image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-27_00-46-42_366.jpg[/image] more light testing [image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-27_00-45-18_857.jpg[/image] [image]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233/edgeflyer/2012-08-27_00-45-38_388.jpg[/image] I will eventually build a new canopy hatch withthe proper bubble to it to finish the standoff sale apearance, maybe some dropable bombs, and a camera turrett up front. Will post more pics in next few days.

Doing a "B". Its actually the HK that i am going to uncover, strengthen, and add flaps if the real one has it. It will be a night flyer.

RE: Cap 232 maiden
Caps most definatly had a snapping problem. I hated flying them, but my dad loved them. You had to keep elevator rates really low. On the other hand nothing tumbles like a cap. The newer designs are true 3D designs that have had that tendency built out of them. Nice build by the way !

RE: 12X to train DX5 ?
I have 12x as master, all surfaces active and trainer switch on default LTRM. using what I think is the JR cord, but may have been mixed up with my buddies radio shach since its labeled belkin, the 5e never powers up. It makes some noises when pluged in but no lights. The funny thing is even when I hold the trim butten to transfer control it never takes control away from the 12 x.

RE: Info from Data Terminal after a shutdown
Anytime you get that high pitch noise from the pump and overload error, The pump is froze. Sometimes taping on t with a srewdriver handle will unstick it. I think these pumps are a little sensative to this happening. I've had it happen myself.

RE: carbon cloth
Good info. My wings are balsa sheeted foam, and are tried and true on this plane, but my jet will be on the heavier side, both in weight and dollars, so cant be too carefull. Interesting about the teture. Thats why I ask questions. Better to learn from someone elses mistakes.

RE: carbon cloth
Its for a Yellow F18 twin. Just want added security, and also dings on the glass sheeted wins tend to puncture through the glass easily. I only use one layer of .5 ounce so thats probably why, but I don't want to add any unnessesary weight with more layers. The F18 is a prized possesion and I want the wings strong and durable.

RE: Discussion on the auto stabilation trend....
John, Thanks for posting an intelligent response. I do agree with you, and look forward to trying one now and hope I am wrong, but like ABS and traction control etc.... They are problematic (ASE Master certified mechanic) and I worry that it could be hazardous to the well being of our sport. I personaly have almost been hit by 3 planes over the years by someone just plane loosing control. I also am an extremist by nature, and am a glutten for punishment, which is why I don't want to give any of my control over to a processor. Seems like I am a minority, and will be interested in seeing how this plays out. Thanks.

RE: Discussion on the auto stabilation trend....
My opinion about these setups is changing due to some responces. However I need to fly one to be convinced it won't turn my real plane into a simulator. I don't think thats the case judging from the posts that answered my questions. With that being said I will defend myself: [quote]edgeflyer,,,,,i dont understand your concern,,you fly your airplane,,,let others fly their planes

RE: Discussion on the auto stabilation trend....
I think there's a place for them like invertmast says, I just don't want to see it standard equiptment on your average fixed wing plane, and the hobby becoming a glorified video game. Half the fun is in the risks we take everytime we exceed stall speed. Without that would it be the same ? I don't think it would for me.
