I apply my 3 “Harbor Freight Tool rules when buying from HK: 1) Okay to buy consumables – Glue, sandpaper, rags, tape etc. 2) Okay to buy tools with no moving parts – Hammers, chisels, punch, scrapers etc. 3) Be prepared to throw it away without regret.

Let's see some. And don't go to a battle of wits unarmed next time.
I'm sure you have poll results that will back this up? Maybe from one of the liberal media outlets noted above? In my world I'm runnin' about 5 to 1 against Obamacare, which pretty much aligns with your 1 out of 5 receiving substandard care. We can assume they receive substandard care because of affordability. If accurate this is of course unacceptable, but far more easily fixed at a state and local level. Name one thing the federal government does efficiently. 1 out of 5 is bad but it’s better than 5 out of 5. Oh… and I think the Brits are doing a great job with the Olympics! Just wish NBC’s coverage was up to par.

RE: London Olympics are fantastic!!
ORIGINAL: eddieC
The private sector can and does do it better.
Laughable. A profit-based system like ours is extremely wasteful. With health-care execs being given half-billion $ pay/benefit packages, would not the money be better spent on patients?
Many patients with the means bypass your and Canada’s healthcare system and come to the states for treatment because they know the can get care now not later.
I haven't met one. Got any stats to back that up? Another myth.
Additionally we have a healthcare plan for those who cannot afford private health insurance it’s called Medicade .
You can't even spell. 'Medicaid' isn't for those without health care. Check the requirements. If that were true, your provider would drop you in a New York minute. How is it that the average American is such an expert on health care providers around the world?  Check how the WHO (World Health Organization) ranks our 'great' system: <a href=''http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Health_Organization_ranking_of_health_systems''>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Health_Organization_ranking_of_health_systems 37th!  Suck that, Slovenia! We are LAST among developed countries.  You can keep drinking the corporate and Fox Kool-Aid, or you can start educating yourselves and read some world news outlets. The final insult is referring to being a 'christian', and supporting a system that allows substandard care for almost 1 in 5 of the population.
If you think its sad to have Mitt
He's a joke, some reports are he's worse than Palin for being out-of-touch. Rant over, sorry for the hijack. Loving the Olympics, good job UK!
Wow. I would have figured someone who gets their talking points from that great bastion of truth, Wikipedia, would have caught this little tidbit in the opening paragraph of the article you linked. – “The WHO abandoned ranking processes due to academic criticism regarding the methodology and validity of rankings Guess its back to MSNBC for you… or CBS, or ABC, or The NY Times, or Huff Post or wherever like minded liberals get their Kool-Aid fix.

RE: Test for Glow Engine Experts
Lightning you need to edit your first post with big red letters that tell these people that don't read all the posts that the problem has been solved. Now we need to figure out why the spinner caused the problem. My vote is heat also. I have had old worn out engines that would run fine in the winter but do the exact same thing as yours in the summer (Arizona); just quit suckin fuel when it got too hot. I think the reason you were able to get it to complete a tank without press was you had to run it fat from the begining keeping it cool enough to finish the tank. Eric

RE: FPV SURVEY
Good response and good points up to the last sentence. We are not expanding our hobby by inviting the FPV crowd; we are subsidizing their hobby while underwriting their risk. Generally as it relates to the AMA our hobby is model acft period, theirs is AV – telemetry - programming etc. We are only a very convenient tool of little consequence. Sure we will sell more memberships and airplane parts helping contain our prices and might make some new nerdy friends. But if I was God of the AMA I wouldn't think the gain is worth the risk right now. Other Gods may disagree. I guess what I'm saying is after the turkey I wouldn't mind sneaking out and meet the crazy drunk uncle down at the strip club. [X(]

RE: FPV SURVEY
I think FPV looks like a kick. I'd like to get into it if i could quit spending my fun money on classic pattern. BUT only outside of the AMA! I believe the AMA should find every way possible to exclude, disown, shun, blackball and generally separate themselves from the entire FPV/ autonomous flight movement NOW, by adding live camera and autopilot restrictions to our rules.  When something does happen, and it will, why risk the whole AMA. Let them organize themselves if they want. You don't have to invite the crazy drunk uncle to Thanksgiving just because you're related. Especially if the cops are already sitting in the driveway. Nothing personal, it's just a too high-risk activity to add to an already exposed AMA. IMHO

RE: GRYPHON - build thread (sports/trainer 2m composite jet)
Being a non-jet guy I just stumbled in here from the RCU Heartbeat page. I was examining the pics, admiring the craftsmanship, until I hit this one… I think I winced so hard I had an aneurism!? [X(] But by the time I the fog of my mini-stroke had subsided the OP had already determined that future customers were less than thrilled with the paint, provided some options, asked for suggestions and provided a template for their input. That is impressive! Even more impressive is this all took place with good nature and no one’s feelings getting hurt (other than a little Boomerang detour). Sharp plane! I think a Union Jack is a must, then maybe pander to markets with Tricolore, Old Glory schemes, etc.

RE: Gotta love that screen...
I’ve always thought that our radio equip was way over priced compared to the little pieces of technological wizardy we carry around in our pockets. It must be purely market driven. There certainly isn’t any rocket science going on in that video. I’ve also wondered why the manufacturers haven’t taken advantage of virtually everyone having an iPhone, Droid, iPod, iPad, or laptop available to them at all times. What the hell do you need a high res touch screen, a camera and a clunky GUI on the Tx for? Ya’ can’t use it while you’re flying. Take all that stuff off the Tx, write some apps and sell a cable. It would be really nice to program on a dedicated device with an intuitive animated graphical program (“I want my plane to do this. Click…) and up-load it to my Tx. I’d pay good money for that. Not this.

RE: Freedom of speech only for a select few in the classic pattern forum
I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said "Stop! Don't do it!" "Why shouldn't I?" he said. "Well, there's so much to live for!" "Like what?" "Well... are you religious?" He said yes. I said, "Me too! Are you Christian or Buddhist?" "Christian." "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant ? "Protestant." "Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?" "Baptist" "Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?" "Baptist Church of God!" "Me too! Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you reformed Baptist Church of God?" "Reformed Baptist Church of God!" "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?" He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915!" I said, "Die, heretic scum", and pushed him off. (Emo Philips) Seemed to fit... Eric

My great-dove-hunter buddy and I decided it would be cool to blow my little brothers CL Cox P40 out of the sky with a 12ga shotgun. I was about on my third lap before I realized my ‘buddy’ was tracking the little planes full arch (with me in the middle). I hit the dirt about the time I heard the shot go off. After some rubber band repairs and a quick geometry lesson for my friend we were off again. RE: So what would you do in this situation?????
ORIGINAL: causeitflies My point of view... from five feet away. This was just one of those unfortunate accidents that happen occasionally. The owner of the jet took the high road and moved on after realizing that no compensation would be paid. As for the Mustang pilot, he did not try to sneak away like nothing happened as some have insinuated. In fact he waited for pictures to be taken before moving his plane. And he didn't just land uncontrollably into the pits. As a matter of fact he made a nice wheel touchdown right in the middle of the designated runway. But as sometimes happens with a small ruddered warbird, the 5 mph crosswind got the best of him as he slowed down. So he WAS in control, right up until the point where he WASN'T LOL. He explained the obvious, that the wind caught him and he couldn't straighten the plane out with full rudder and even used full aileron too. Maybe he should have given it throttle to get some air over the rudder, or up elevator to plant the tail wheel, or kill the engine to lessen the damage and not use aileron which could make it worse (adverse yaw). But whatever, the accident happened. So next some guys start on this guy about his piloting skills and how he should learn how to land an airplane. He felt insulted and at this point it started to get a little heated and he said the jets shouldn't be parked in that area. I not so politely pointed out where the flight line was and where his plane ended up. The owner of the jet was not around when all this happened and someone went to look for him. The Mustang pilot started to walk away and was told to wait for the owner of the jet. I don't think he realized that the owner wasn't among the guys giving him a hard time so it's not like he was trying to sneak off. When the owner showed up the two of them had some discussion which I was not trying to hear. So if the guy was a jerk after that, I have no idea, as I left the area. I'm not trying to stick up for the guy but some facts and a little empathy help to explain the situation he was in.
As usual the other side of the story comes out. And this time not by the other principle but an honest bystander without a dog in the fight. My initial reaction to the OP was a size eleven in the canopy. But after reading this and inspecting the first pic in the OP. My opinion (which was requested) has shifted slightly in favor of the Mustang guy. From a small but vocal slice of our hobby that wastes no opportunity to remind how expensive these models are and how much work is involved and how experienced you have to be to even own one… A group who has complained that spectators should not even be allowed at jet meets let alone be near one as to damage it… Can you state honestly THAT THIS IS A SAFE PLACE TO PARK YOUR MODELS??? I saw the word reckless above. Perfect caption for this pic.

RE: Reno Air Races - Pictures
My last Reno was ’08 and it was my sons first. We were going this year but my work and his football trumped the trip. What a tragedy. I saw a couple of stills of the Ghost before impact and a video of his mayday pull shot from the pits. A couple of observations: - It was a very hard pull, must have been a hell of a load. Seen many maydays at Reno and never anything like this. - One still shows the top of the acft while it was inverted prior to dropping its nose. The elevator trim tab clearly is missing. - The other still shows the plane vertical before impact. The tail wheel is fully down and the mains are fully up. Also no pilot is visible in the canopy. Not sure how far aft the seat is mounted.

Wow. Just month ago or so I worked with them to get a header for an oddball size (HP Gold Cup 61). I was really impressed with the back and forth emails daily. I thought I was going to have to pay big bucks for a custom job but he found me the perfect match from another brand engine. Shipped it right out. I almost started one of those “Hey these guys went the extra mile for me threads. I guess I should have. I hope everything is OK there. Many a small hobby company start their death spiral like this. Losing Mac’s would be a big hit for the classic pattern cult. I sympathize with the plight of the OP and he’s always been a great contributor. But let’s face it; bringing it here is more of a vent. The main gear is classic Rhom air’s with Kraft wheels. The hot setup from this period. The nose gear as you describe it is not Rhom. The Rhom tanks had two air lines. Are you sure the air line going to the vertical isn’t just the second tank line that flipped to the back of the fues? Is the control valve a square aluminum manifold looking thing? RE: Lithium Battery Hysteria!!!....
Yea they can pop and flash if charged incorrectly. But it's funny how people obsess about their batteries when in my (and most peoples) garage right now there is about 50 gallons of gas distributed among three cars, some filled propane tanks, couple gallons of nitro fuel, many cans of paints and solvents under presure, butane torch, oil, matches and a live natural gas line plumbed into the water heater with a fire burning under it. When I see the hobby shops and warehouses accross the world, with their millions of lipos stored, start going up in flames I'll worry about it. A couple of scary tales and a youtube video or two compared to the gazillion lipo's safely in use in electronics and hobbies doesn't even register on my give-a-crap-meter. I believe it's our chinese chargers and / or lack of attention that cause our issues. Not the batteries.

RE: Spectator Access at Jet Events
ORIGINAL: tp777fo Didnt they make a movie about these goofs a few years ago....I see stupid people...and there's lots of them. A lot of people dont care about anyone's property. They let their kids sit on our models, jump on our wings and on and on. ''Look at little Jimmy, ain't he cute?'' I dont set my jets out at the noon walk through any more. If you dont like this attitude then tough $hit. It's my hard earned money and time invested in these models and I could care less if Jethro Jr. or Jethrene gets to see them up close and ask how much did it cost. They can see just fine from behind the fence.
Wow, really. I’m just your average club member who gives up primo flying weekends so out-of-towners like you guys can have your events. Then we become the unwashed fence-hangers you speak of. If you treat our spectators like you’ve been discussing here I would suggest to the board that you not be invited back. Remember you need the clubs more than the clubs need this attitude. Like someone mentioned above, the spectator that leaves with a bad taste in his mouth is the one voting on budgets, public land use etc. Or the ones living at the edge of the field who come over to see what all the traffic is about. Only to go home and call the cops about the noise just to “show those smug jerks. And no, nobody is asking you to sit and watch your investment get squashed. Just to realize that spectators are important and figure out a way to keep them safely engaged. And also understand that YOU are the guest and act like it.
