RE: The Evader Coalition ~ T.E.C. Part 2.
The new bumper on the brushless EXT is sweet. Looks good and tough and mounts perfectly. I have one. Love it. If the new rear one is as good it's worth the money.
ORIGINAL: dtxandtrx Thanks for the information. What do you think will be the best bumper for the evader. Looking for a front and rear bumper or wheelie bar. Should be fun.
RE: The Evader Coalition ~ T.E.C. Part 2.
ORIGINAL: dtxandtrx Hey guys just took my evader ext2 to my local track last night completey stock and could not make most of the jumps. So i took it in and put my slash 4x4 velineon motor and esc in. Running very careful for about 20 laps i took it in and put some jconcepts barcodes on in the rear. Much better for traction but i started running the truck harder and harder through the night. Worked great until i smashed into a metal box messing around where there was no track and just dust. Busted the front bumper and the brace that goes from a arm to a arm. No spares so my night was done mainly because it was 11:00 at night and i was the last one at the track. So this morning i looked into the tranny and found my toPshaft gear and the diff gear were starting to sharpen. What parts will i need to fix this and still be able to keep the velineon in. Thanks and sorry for the long message. And i was running a 6 cell 5000 the whole night
Sounds like maybe you have one of the bad top gears that were around for a while. I went through 2 or 3 of 'em, then all of a sudden the problem stopped. I've run 30 or 40 2S lipos with no problem with a Castle 4600kV motor. Clean out the trans case really good to get rid of any small pieces of metal floating around, replace the top shaft and pack it liberally with a good grease. DTX ships the car with basically no grease in the tranny. Hopefully the new topshaft gear will not be made of inferior metal. As for the diff...not sure what to tell you. Is the idler gear OK? You can get a rebuild kit for the tranny case which includes the outer gear. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSXB1&P=ZGood luck.

RE: Is my Castle system fried?
Hey EXT2Rob. Bummer about the motor. I think 200 hours seems a bit too short, too. Most hybrid cars today use either a BLDC, or an AC indution motor or a PMSM (permanent magnet synchronous motor). All three have similar construction without the physical contacts of brushes. I'm not sure how much current they pull but I know they all convert a lot more watts into kinetic energy than a 540 sized motor and they last a whole lot longer than 200 hrs. My nephew has a Prius with 140,000 miles on it and it is still going strong. He plays a game to see how long he can go on battery alone so he uses the motor a lot. He has had no problems with the motor or the batteries. According to http://www.nmbtc.com/brushless-dc-motors/engineering/brushless_dc_motors_engineering.html : A BLDC motor is highly reliable since it does not have any brushes to wear out and replace. When operated in rated conditions, the life expectancy is over 10,000 hours. I'm assuming CC uses quality magnets, windings and bearings in their products and the way you have dialed back the torque and punch control would indicate that you are not pushing the rated conditions for the motor. It'll be interesting to see what Castle has to say.

Or maybe it's guitar string EXT2Rob and your CV's will play some awesome bass rifts!

Yeah, that's the big problem with HPz. Just wait awhile and it'll be in stock.

RE: The Evader Coalition ~ T.E.C. Part 2.
I stumbled onto the perfect battery if you are running lipos on an EXT2 chassis. It is a GensAce 2S 4000mAh hardcase. www.hobbypartz.com/98p-30c-4000-2s1p-hardcase.html Only $20 at hobbypartz and it fits the battery tray on an EXT2 perfectly. It's almost as if dtx designed the chassis around the battery. The battery hold down strap goes right between the power leads and balancing leads. It fits so well, you almost don't need the holddown strap. It's rated at 30C which i can feel the difference in a castle system vs. a 25C battery. More midrange punch. I have two, both of which have at least 10-12 cycles on them and they have worked flawlessly. I get about 25-30 minutes of run time with a 4600kV castle motor. EXT2Rob gets about a minute or two less with a 5700kV castle. For cost vs. performance, it can't be beat.

You're right, they look similar. But I heard somewhere that duratrax used a castle motor and ESC.

You guys are right about DTX quality control. I just had to return a CV joint-it would not pivot in one direction and an idler gear that was not machined enough on one side to accept the bearing. Their spur gears are not true (robinson racing spurs are sweet) and i think they put out a bad batch of top gears awhile back. My buddy and i were going thru them like poop thru a goose. I finally got a good one and it's had 30 or 40 packs run thru it and, last itme I opened up the case, it looked great.

RE: The Evader Coalition ~ T.E.C. Part 2.
Hi everyone. This is the first post for me but I have been reading/searching this thread for awhile. For anyone with an Evader, this is the place to be. Thanks for all the good info and ideas put forth on this forum. I owe everyone and hope to give back to the folks on this thread with observations and experiences of my own down the road. I have only been in the hobby for a year (thanks to EXTRob) but i am totally hooked. I bought one EXT2 right after last Xmas and another (after a crash put car #1 out of commision) a few months later to use as a spare/parts car. These things are too much fun. After upgrading the first car to brushless I couldn't resist putting in an EZRun in the second. Despite the ripping a lot of people give these little motors, I am impressed. For less than half the cost of a Castle system you get one that is 95% of the fun. The Castle 4600 kV is really too much motor and the EZRun seems to be better matched to the EXT chassis. But the bottom line is that both cars drive very smiliarly to each other and, as everyone here knows, are a blast to drive. I am lucky to be able to run on the track inEXTRob's videos . I am the driver of the second car. We have some great races and some spectacular crashes over the last year. It is amazing how tough the cars are. I am looking forward to running many battery packs through these cars as the days get longer and warmer.
