RE: need source for small nuts and bolts
ORIGINAL: DaveFri Thanks to all!! Looks like RTL and Micro Fasteners ,at this point, have what i need. RTL have #2 sheet metal screws w/washers(didn't see them at M.F.)Those are great for servos.                                         Dave
I use these servo-mounting screws (socket head washer head) from [link=http://www.microfasteners.com/catalog/products/TWSSHWHMS.cfm]Micro Fasteners[/link]. Three different lengths in #2 screw size. Ed

RE: ? conversion 2 blade to 3 blade prop
ORIGINAL: frenchie79 The wire itself is fairly heavy-landings will have to be greased. Yes i plan on trying the wheels. I may need a good supply of props!!! Longer wires may be the answer-it's quite abit more than just right bends.
I'd make new LG struts at least 1" longer. Could also replace the wheels with larger diameter wheels. You might use both new struts and larger wheels to get the ground clearance you need. Ed

RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz*
My factory Tx battery went bad after a couple of years. I replaced it, and have had excellent service, with a Sanyo Eneloop NiMh battery custom made by Canuck Engineering. The price was reasonable and I received it about 5 days after placing the order. The Eneloop battery has about 3 times the capacity of the original NiCd and holds a charge for weeks or months. Highly recommended! http://www.canuckengineering.com/new/content/96v-tx-battery-pack-square Note: I did have to change the connector to the old Airtronics type. You could also use an adapter plug cable. Ed

RE: Goldberg Anniversary Edition Piper Cub
ORIGINAL: Thisstrangeengine I built this cub back in 92 and its still flying with the original 21st Century fabric and O.S. 70 4 stroke. Guess I'll always have a Cub... It's built like a tank!
I have Goldberg Cub kit in my stash of future projects. I was planning to power it with an O.S. 61 4-stroke. I'm sure it would have more than sufficient power for this model, as a land-plane. However, I might want to install floats someday. Can you please give me your opinion about this? Would the 61 be sufficient for the Cub with floats attached? Thanks. Ed

RE: Goldberg Anniversary Edition Piper Cub
Hi claudbosc, Attached is a .jpg file scan of the Cub firewalls die-cut sheet wood (1/8" thick). You may need to scale your printout to match the correct size of the included ruler. Hope this works OK for you. I will also try to e-mail the file to you. Ed Morgan

RE: Dynaflite PT-19 Engine Help!!!
ORIGINAL: Crash Campbell Hi Ron, The distance is 5.25'' In mine it would be possible to cut away part of the firewall to allow for a rear mounted carby. I used a OS 108 in mine and am soon to repower so I would like to hear how your ''shoe horning'' goes. Cheers, Colin
Hey Crash, I'm currently building the Dynaflite PT-19 and intend to install an OS 1.08 2-stroke engine. May I ask you why you plan to replace the 108 in your PT-19? Thanks for any advice you can offer! Ed

RE: Champion Model Airplane Co. Sportster 20
Hi guys, I've attached a few photos of my latest model a " Sportster 20" sport/pattern plane from a 1980's kit I got at a swap meet for $20. The kit was based on a Flying Models magazine design article by Dick Sarpolus in October 1979. I modified the design slightly by incorporating a radial cowling and fuselage "cheek" fairings. Otherwise, it is built pretty-much according to the kit design. The kit was made by Champion Model Aeroplane Company in the 1980's, I believe. It flew for the first time on Thursday. It now has 5 flights on it and it flies very nicely smooth and stable, like a pattern plane should! It has a 50" wing span, 400 square inch wing area, weighs 54 oz. (3 1/2 lbs.), is covered in Ultracote film, and powered by an O.S. .20 four stroke engine with APC 9 x 6 prop. The wing loading is about 20 oz. per square foot. The canopy and cowling are spray painted with Lustercote rattle-cans. The cowling was cut from a coin cup I got at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel and Casino some years ago. I think I will need to do more work on the cowling, eventually, as the paint is starting to chip off at the edges and screw mounting holes. You know, you never actually FINISH a model airplane you just stop working on it (eventually). The model flies fine with the .20 4-stroke and cruises easily at about 1/2 power. The .20 just sips the fuel. If I mount floats on it, I think I'll replace the engine with a .26 4-stroke due to increased weight and drag of floats, and the fact that I often fly my float-planes in the mountains at elevations of 3,000 to 6,000 feet. Right now, I'm eager move back to my Dynaflite PT-19 project! This is beautiful looking, great flying little sport plane from "the good old days". You might find a kit like this at a swap meet, here on RCU, or on eBay. No ARF's of this baby! Ed

RE: Skybolt hangar and clubhouse
ORIGINAL: Cougar429 Wish someone could tell me what the hell is wrong. Motor idles and transitions fine, just if it sits low throttle for a bit and I rev it up it has this bad habit. This is my first 4-stroke, so would like some advice if I'm too rich or lean.
Hey Cougar429 I think you might have the IDLE mixture set a little on the LEAN side. Then, when you open the throttle quickly, it creates an even leaner situation causing pre-ignition and backfire which throws your prop. Prop lock nuts are nice to have, for sure, but you should still fix the problem causing the backfire in the first place. I would try opening (richer) the idle fuel mixture needle about 1/8 of a turn, at first, and see if that helps. Good luck with your Skybolt! Ed

Dynaflite PT-19 cockpit cut-out patterns
I'm currently building a 1/5 scale PT-19 from an old Dynaflite kit. I have completed the fuselage top-deck sheeting and now need to cut the cockpit holes. Unfortunately, my kit (or construction manual) is missing the "cockpit cut-out template" that was supposed to be included. I'd really appreciate it if somebody, who has this template, could send me a copy of it. You could scan the template on your computer document scanner, save the image as a .jpg or .pdf file, and e-mail the file to me (as an attachment) at: ejmorgan@ucdavis.edu If you prefer to make a xerox-copy and mail it to me, I will be glad to provide my mailing address, and a few bucks for your postage and time. Thanks! Ed Morgan
