RE: Sig Rascal 110
Hey All, I'm thinking of selling my Blue/White Rascal 110. It's equiped with the G26ei, single Bennet Built muffler, True Turn spinner, SmartFly electrical cutoff, JR 126MG servos, Pilot figure, 2400/4.8 NICD ignishion, 1500/6 NICD reciever and 2.4 spectrum receiver. Only damage was caused by my over shrinking the top covering of the wing where the blue transparent covering underlies the white. DARN it! But that has been repaired but barely detectable. Overall great shape 2 questions 1. What is a fair asking price 2. Is there any interest Jim from Iowa

RE: Sig Rascal 110
junkboy999, With my wing on the bench and not on the plane. We drew a string from tip to tip and measure the rise at the exact center of the top. We measured 1.750", now if we would install it on the plane w/ struts because they tend to flex it into more dihedril I would then guess a full 2" then. let us know if this is not what you want.

RE: Sig Rascal 110
Hey Everyone, We just about got ours finished!! My son and I put it on the balancer yesterday and I couldn't believe it. It was almost perfectly balanced..... I've never started that close before. Our major setup is G26E up front with servo's in the tail. Those boy's putting small er 4-stroke must have to really work to get theirs balanced. Junkboy I been waiting for someone smarter than me to make a real flight 110 Rascal. What motor are you setting it up with? I will post soon with you answer.......

RE: Sig Rascal 110
Ron, The wings look great! I did follow your suggestion on adding the hatch below the tank. I don't know how else it could of been done otherwise. And Zippy I think I will follow you r suggestion on adding a spacer under the wing mount also. I can't wait till spring a give the girl a try!

RE: Sig Rascal 110
Ron, Thank for the info. Tes I have proformed some of those mods, the extra hatch under the fuel tank. I don't know if that electronics/battery installaton could of been possible without that hatch. I have not done anything with gear or strut mounts. Is the gear mount that soft or some unfortonate lands to blame? Beefing up the gear mount have you or anyone came up with anything special? other than more wood and glue? Have you guys heard that Scott Christenson(SP?) from SIG and designer of this plane passed away this winter. I believe he was inducted into the AMA hall of fame last year.

RE: Sig Rascal 110
Ron, our Rascal Build is going well we have our G26E mounted and the cowl cut around the carb. But, B&B is close all of January so we haven't been able to order our muffler yet. I bought a Vortex brand 3" spinner and custom cut and was very disapointed. The back plate was oversized for the motor shaft so you have to use this wafer thin shim to decrease the O.D. to fit the shaft. Pain in the you know what! Does the trueturn spinners have the right size bore? Love your flap project can't wait to see and here more.

RE: Sig Rascal 110
Thanks Ron And Zippi, I have read through this thead and made several choices because of everyones experiences. I have ordered the B&B header but they are closed all of January. I'm excited to get it but it's still pretty cold in Iowa. I just can't rest till the planes are engineered, built and ready to fly. Then check and recheck before the madien. I actually have 4 planes all going on at once for my son and I, I work on one till I need something go to the next and so on..... . I really appreicate the advice and can't wait to do some Rascal flying!

RE: Sig Rascal 110
Zippi, Why thanks for the quick response, I'm going straight to the garage to cut a hole for the rudder servo. Good or bad if someone else is doing it then I can't crazy all by myself. I have ordered a Dave Patrick nose cone and I'm having it precut for a 18-6 prop so we will see how that goes. Are you squezzing the igintion battery and igntion in around the fuel tank? I think it should fit?? my motor is in the mail yet??

RE: Sig Rascal 110
Hello All, I'm building my first Rascal and I'm really excited to see here fly. But wondered if I may question you all on a couple of things. I am using the G26E Zenoha for my engine. 1. I see alot of you are using a 18-6? is that your breeak-in prop also? 2. How does it balance with this motor? Should I concider moving the rudder servo back with the elevator?

RE: TBM's 23x8 Prop
ORIGINAL: Taildragger726 22X8 vs 23X8 ??? Apples to oranges??
Taildragger, Well we have run the 22x8 as a break-in prop on the DA50 with about 6-8 gallons through it. We thought that may have been enough, but possibly not. With the 23x8 we were hoping to get a better pull-out from a hover and through some various other maneuvers. Another reason we went with a 23x8 is that DA recommends it after break-in. This may not of been the right thought process but it is what we felt was the right direction to go. Eli

TBM's 23x8 Prop
Recently I tested one of TBM’s 23x8 props, and was impressed by the looks. I tested it on a Desert Aircraft 50cc engine, replacing a Menz 22x8 as a break-in prop. The Menz made an Extreme Flight 88’’ Yak - 54 fly great. The TBM 23 x 8 produced a reduced amount of RPM. Also, during the flight, the airplane flew with a lot less power. For example, after a hover the plane had a harder time pulling out. After a few flights I switched back to the Menz propeller and let another flyer try the TBM prop on his Chinese made engine. He had the exact same results as I and wasn’t impressed either.

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
We are useing the Smart-fly system on this plane with redundent 2150mA A123 batteries. So instead of using a extra battery for the smoke system we are going directly to the Smart-fly board. We intially choose to use the SF system because we wanted redundancy but more to learn about the different power management system, this size plane really doesn't need it. I called SF and asked if this was a reasonable for us to add the pump power to the current setup and they thought it would be fine. Hopefully we will be test it later today. Try to post some pictures.

Rick, Great advice and very nice web site. What is your personal flying style like and where did you setup your c/g? I suspose i should go back and read your build and it will tell me. But just curious?

RE: Proctor Nieuport 28
Summerwind, Yeah, that kinda makes me feel good. We installed a spring starter on the G38 and test fired her today. Took right off and that made me smile. I don't know how old this plane is or how long it has been sitting but the roar of the motor sounded sweet. I'm also building a Ziroli DC3 which will be using the G38's. So when I saw this N28 at auction w/ a never run motor I thought knowing the value of the motor we would bid on it justifying needing the G38??? But I'm kinda becoming rather exicited about it. The N28 that is. Mine is covered with that "Coverite" material, iron on cloth looks and feels really nice. I just might use more of this in the future.

RE: Proctor Nieuport 28
Thanks again Summerwind, We are using a G38 Zenoah. This particular plane was purchased at the Iowa City, Ia Sky Hawks swap meet / auction. Bought it on impulse...... I know hard to believe people do that. It looked pretty good never flown everything was installed including the motor which was never run. The more closely I looked the more things we found not to my satisfaction. So I'm fixing a few things changing some others but for the price of $375 I think we got a pretty good deal. Without a manual it was going to be a little scary but thanks to you we might have a little more luck in our pocket.

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Thanks Frank & David, We were having a tough time trying to decide how to route the vent line. With the plane built so light you couldn't really poke it through just anywhere. Also we are using a 4.5" spinner and with out removing the standoff stud everytime it would be very difficult to snake the cowl around the muffler and still have the smallest hole possible cut for it. So we are feeling everyone out for previous experiences. Team Abby Normal
