My Own BackSlash 4x4!!! racing against field of 1/8's
Hi to everyone... a long time since i post something... but i was in the progress to convert my Slash 4x4 to Backlash 4x4 and did it without any inconvenience.... I found over the net the JANG project and somebody else that pushed me to convert... since i was goin every weekend to a race track... i realize that the stock slash is not good for big fast jumps... there was almost no way to do the triple big one because in the air the body work as a parachute and stops the truck big time... so i went to the convertion and VOILA... looks, works, runs like a true 1/8 scale buggy... wy is this? the convertion improbes a lot the aerodinamics of the truck in the air dramatically... so for now... i can go jump the triple easy... even over pass it for a bit... On this track, there are friendly races... where i can race these beast... electric, nitro either one i can pair in speed running 2S LIPO 5000 and 6000MAH... Mamba max pro ESC and a velineon motor whit a fan... Ok enough about talking... let see some pictures!!!

RE: My Own BackSlash 4x4!!! racing against field of 1/8's
more... These are with the SC tires... there is small diference in diameter... 1/8's are taller and heavier so i loosed a little bit of inertia so it was harder to balance the truck in the air... but still a lot of fun to drive... this wheels are Pro Lines Calibers on TwinSpoke wheels... Later that day i change the rear tires for a couple of 2.2 BowTies M3... and on this terrain they work better than the calibers but a had to deal with the oversteer with the bowties behind and calibers on the front!!! only thing i can say... stock rear carrier don't stand this kind of jump... whell... they supose not to.. LoL!!! and i broke one time the front A-arm... so i went to RPM... BIG MISTAKE... RPM arms bends when they hit the ground hard... and this bends the shock shafts... 4 times in one day... so i went to stock a-arms and try not to NOSE DIVE on the jump.... PS: The slash 4x4 is a nice truck... but with these convertion it improves drasticaly.... only thing i say... i have to drive a lot easyer then a real 1/8 because the truck is so light that it tends to roll when you hit some grip on the track sideways... using the brakes a little helps with this and the car seems more quicker around cornes than a real 1/8... this is because they are heavier and slash is lighter.... a little less speed on the big straigh... just a little... but i regain what i lost on the corners... I think it won't be capable to run like this a lot of time... i had made some changes to the truck to hang on the abuse for a while... but driving a real 1/8... you can feel the diference on weight that helps stabilize it better because of this, i have to be more concentrated to keep up whit them... It wass a hell of a change... totally recomended!!!

This is on my local track... with the 1/8 buggy tires i get a little more inertia so i can acomplish a full front flip... and a littler wheelie at the end!

The first image behind me is a HPI VORZA... and i could keep up with him... then he passes me... then i got him back... and it came a Kyosho Inferno MP9... same history... but the driver was not that god... The vorza one is a good driver!!! on the last picture you can see the same high and flight characteristics of the 1/8 PS: Vorza 6s A123 19.8volts 2200KV BackSlash 2S 7.4volts Lipo 3500KV

Racing the RUSTLER... lots of mods!!!
Well... i have this rustler for about two years now... and i know everything to tune it right, and there's a lot of changes since i got it... First some specs Traxxas Rustler VXL Motor: Tekin Redline 10.5T Sensored - Eagle Racing Motor HeatSink ESC: Mamba Max Pro Sensored Batts: A123 3S1P Radio: Associated XP3D FM(and now i got the DIY 2.4GHZ Corona DSSS from HK and installed.. YAEH!!!) now 2.4ghz Servo: HXT 10kg Servo (metal gear) 55g / 10kg / .16sec Now lets go with the Truck: Front Alu Bulkhead to increase strengh and add some weight to the front end, Integy Type II Steering BellCrank, Integy rear Carriers and RPM front Casters and Carries not yet in this pictures... but already installed, RPM Front Wide Bumper, HPI Yellow Dish Wheels with some OffSet so this ads a wider stance to the truck along with the Proline Bowties And to get the truck turn a little better i have acomplishe the wide front mod found [link=http://monster.traxxas.com/showthread.php?t=443834&highlight=rear+arm+wide]here[/link] I was using the big bores from traxxas for a while... but they keep bending the shock shafts... so i replace the rear shocks with some 1/8 rear kyosho shocks from an old inferno... so no more bending... and in the front i was having some trouble with the suspention heigh... i needed some more travel and with the stock front shocks lengh it was too low, so i replace the front shocks with the rear ones and now they have a lot more travel... since a was running a lot harder than i used to ... it was in my mind to make a custom swaybar... at least for the rear end... since i added this sway bar made from used rod ends and a bicycle wheel link (lol), the car is a lot more stamble going in to corners... a lot more controlable going out of them... Well a lot of words, lets make the images talk by themselves... One more think... the rear sliders are not the stock anymore... these are jato sliders moded to fit the rustler... it has improved durability a lot... + today is a lot more easier just to change the stock ones with the Slash 4x4 rear ones... (JATO SIZE ) bigger, stronger, along with the heavy duty outputs and axles... even the rear carriers from the slash... you just need an extra bearing because slash uses two kind of bearings inside the carrier... this is a plus...

RE: Racing the RUSTLER... lots of mods!!!
Slo-V Flyer yeah is neat.... i use the rpm arm because it was too soft to the rear suspention to work straight... with this i mean that they bend easely on a back hit... and this is why the shock shaft bends on hard back impacts... thast why i retuned the rear stock arms on the rear... and got the rpm arm free to work on the mod... is funny that i think no one have ever mention this rpm as a flaw or desing issue... and 1/8 scale shocks are heavy duty on this scale...

RE: Racing the RUSTLER... lots of mods!!!
Now Finally completed Well in short words... not too heavy, not too light, a lot of grip(Bowties), very consistent, and i can keep up with anybody in my class and even win some on a field of a lot of of other club racers (T4, lazers, some 1/8 asso, kyosho and even a HPI vorza) this is because whe have a TCT fun class( in spanish TODOS CONTRA TODOS) so anyone with anything could run just to have even more fun... and here is where i can run in the front with the BIG ONES!!! So to me it comes to knowing the truck and make it to handle where you are confortable with it... in the end IT'S JUST A RUSTLER... but is winning... LOL!

Tha chrysler already have selected A123 as the battery supplier for their vehicles... amazing!!! OK... so more production, cheaper batts...

RE: LiPo vs LiFe batteries?
[quote]ORIGINAL: kinzuagolfer The problem you might find with Life is the amp output. I must note I haven't followed the technology for a year. I bought a dewalt pack for the A123 cells. From what I remember they are 30c, so thats only 69amps by my math. 2300mah. Brushless systems can demand much more than that. My esc is only rated for 65amps, so it works fine for me. No crazy backflip torque. [/quote] Amp output? i think 30C is constant and 60C burst!! that's 138amps!!! This is my experience with LiFe(A123 almost the same as Life from HK) Let me put my 2 cents in this... i have a rustler with a mamba max pro and a tekin 10.5 motor... when i started in electric 2 years ago... got the rusty and some 9 cell nimh... worked great for about 3 moths... then started to fade in performance... same to eric... i needed a little more.. so after reading a lot, i didn't like all the taking care off that a lipo needs +the life span of lipos... a friend of mine went to the lipo route so i can compare with him... (same esc+same motor). Exactly what happened is... he runs 3S 11.1 Lipo and i run 3S 9.9 A123, ok, in voltage.. he was faster(11.1 vs 9.9), but no that much, on power he had 4000mah 25c (100amps) so my A123 has a little more torque(60C burst 138amps), so on local track racing... my car was more controlable and can acomplish more laps without any real problems spining out or anything... the big difference was... running time wich he had from 5 to 10 minutes more than me. and here i have to say... wow i have being more time running my car on the track than him... maybe two times more in one year... chargin the pack in a little over 10 minutes... he needed an hour.. so i was racing and practicing a lot more than him.. (god for electronics to cool down a bit) so he needed a second pack to achieve this.. ok he did... after six months he got a second pack... but he's first one started to fail... then he didn't wanted to use it anymore because the pack was already puffed...(less tah 100 cycles) So in 1 year and a half he got 2 lipos(one already dead) and a nice charge, payed 40 for each lipo and 90 for the charger thats 170$. in my case... i'm still using the same pack(700+ cycles).. 14.95 each cell and made my own 3S pack (60 for an A123 brand pack) with no fade in performance... good as new... chargin and using without any worries... direct zip charge from a real car battery so no expensive charger, so my money invested on this is 50$ with a traxxas connector... today he has changed over lipo... he is using A123 now.. and whe are now more equal racing each other...meaning more fun + there are 10 plus new racers this year that have made the first step using A123... just by see how we have done it... I know many lipo owners say that they are better... ok... maybe on high end lipos(a lot $$)... or just to follow the flow... like if everyone is using them, then i have too... that was not my case... I know my experience is with A123... but the LiFe packs from HK and MA(MA too expensive Lol) are almost the same... (4500mah 30C constant and 40C burst and that's 180 amps!!!) not many user using them... like with the A123 when i started, but cheaper, safer, long life not just claimmed... proobed already... just my 2 cents... hope it helps... Stop saying what's better or what's stronger... or anything... maybe is better for me and not for you... PS: name just one Rc user that have just spend 50$ on lipos in two years? (racing every saturday and sunday at the local track for the complete 2 years) A123 makes my day... Chears from PY!!!

I think they will break before i lathe them lol... but the extra material that covers the entire welded area should improve the resistance a little more...

RE: Evader BX Pro
Some test done today... weelies, speed tests, and some offroad test... further test needed lol... my only concern is the shaft, and to correct somthing "the cvd's where welded, not soldered..." and don't have a lathe to get it smooth but there is a lot of clearance... and for now they spin free without any vibration... it take us two or three times welding and unwelding it to get them align and take the vibration out of it... and if they don't hold up... the slyders are the selected replacement... Some other thinks to know about: the only think we have to mod is the old tranny suport that comes from the shock tower, cut it all, then a home made alu brace to attach the new tranny to the two screws that comes from the shock tower towards the rear of tha car... i'll take some more pictures tomorrow to clear this part... and two holes to secure the new tranny to the evader chassi at the bottom, hard to do this to align tha tranny to the chassi then make the holes...

Yes... Bandit slyders are a must if this mod doesn't hold up... the rustler ones are too long(maybe a little cut will work) i think we'll try the bearing carriers too... Do you have any link? on those TEC mods?

A friend of mine got a great idea... the final solution to his Evader Bx Pro... after destroying the ball diff... (melted bad) with a Losi ESC and a VXL motor... this is the best solution we have on our mind!!! Pictures and Data Duratrax traxxas Tranny MOD Complete Rustler/Stampede/Bandit VXL gearbox Modified CVD Lenght (Traxxas tranny is mode wide at the bottom than the original one) We did this just to try out... maybe the Bandit plastic shaft will be more suitable, and this Evader Pro has graphite all over plus those CVD's looks hard to break... Modified shock tower tranny support to get the VXL gearbox in place Aluminum brace angled to attach Vxl Tranny to the Shock Tower Videos of it in action comming very soon!!! A123 powered... you'll se!!! is a beast!!! PS: RC Urbano Hobby Mechanic Asuncion - Paraguay South America

(64$ 4 cells A123) and not in that C rating too... man... you don't have to forget he needs a charger too... and life span... and the test that have already done by several users... that shows that A123 holds their voltage better than almost any lipo battery...[link]http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6462996&postcount=1[/link] (not all off them) and... there's heat too... it's good for a car to get a rest after hard driving... and HK has chage the way we look in to the lipo field... they are way too cheap... making us abble to buy them at low low prices... (good for everyone) and i don't relay on the LVC from tha VXL system... the tend to fail... so be aware...
