RE: Avistar Engines
Guys thanks very much for your guidance and help. I think this is a sleeper and will fill my needs well. This morning I ordered a Avaistar .46 and am very much looking forward to its arrival. airraptor - does the .46 have the same things to clean up as the .53? Leo

RE: engine question
I am the proud owner of an .099 Arden Glow Engine and was the owner of a .19 Arden Glow Engine until it mysteriously disappeared from my shop many years ago. It seemed they started every time on the first flip of the prop. I only used one in a U/C plane thought a free flight would have been a great use but I was afraid of losing them! Super articles ... thanks for posting them! Leo

RE: Removing Blue Color 40 LA
New Brockton, AL … Been a while since going thru there. I will post what has worked for me and is the result of talking with other modelers. The Crock Pot is the cheapish you can find because it cannot be used for any other purpose involving Food after your first cleaning. It should have adjustable heat since you want hot anti-freeze but it does not need to be boiling. The Anti Freeze must be the type used in Aluminum Radiators. Engine (s) to be cleaned should have all plastic removed as this process will destroy the plastic … I speak from experience. Break the engine down as far as you can without removing stuck components such as Pistons stuck in the cylinder … Remove the glow or spark plug, head, prop, etc., place the engine and it’s parts in the crock, add antifreeze so that it covers all parts … turn the pot on and heat the contents … remember it is not necessary to boil this but you do want the antifreeze hot, real hot. I have left this on heating for several hours and check on it every so often to see if the stuck parts have released … if they have carefully remove and wipe down … Please be careful not use your hands without protection from the heat and care of the fumes from the hot antifreeze … clean every thing up by just wiping with rags then apply oil (I would not use WD 40) very liberally, wiping it off as you assemble the engine. This is the most complete cleaning method I have used or seen … there are lots of others and they all work to a certain point with some better than others. I do not profess to be an Expert on this but this approach has worked quite well for me. and yes it did start the Blue paint removal on the OS 40![:)]

RE: JR/SPEKTRUM NOT TO LATESTTECHNOLOGY??
I returned to this hobby after a very long absence. As a matter of fact I still have one of my "rubber power" escapement models ... Kraft was the big name then ... so I have a very large gap in my RC time as well as any modelling time. I have looked and listen to all about the pro's and con's of the various RC systems ... to me I found the modelers to be very proud of the system they used and noticed how hard they defended the Brand they had ... it looked to me as thought all these system were darn good! But I decided to go with a 2.4 as I believe this to be the coming technology in this sport. Was I wrong ... I think not ... the brand was I thought, a leader in this technology, so I based my choice of brand on that ... again I don't think I was wrong nor do I think that brand will continue the "lead" as this technology moves forward but I do think they will be at the front of the pact ... but that is just what I see ... the bottom line is, in my opinion, as long as you go with a recognized brand that has proven to be dependable, you will be making the right choice. Yes, I chose Spektrum!

RE: Trouble Shoot this ...
Rafel I followed your advice, at least I thought I did, and I had the same results except now I just got solid lights ... now I write all my proceedings down and head for my LHS where Eric, the owner said he would like to check this system out. So I bring all the system to him including the battery and my notes ... Eric tries and tries to duplicate my problem but the system is absolutely prefect each time he tries it binds ... so now Eric reads and follows my procedures as I had written them ... will not bind! What was the difference ... well the manual tells you to set everything up and to then plug the bind plug in ... now turn the switch on! I had not followed the process as the manual said ... Read the Instructions [X(]... Now that brings me to another question: Just what does the bind plug do? I would like to thank Eric of the Local Hobby Town for his direct help and Horizon for all their advice and support! I'm embarrassed but I will never forget how to bind! Leo

I don't intent to side track this thread, but since I am a new be to RC, I would like to understand why running the battery down has to do with a need to return the system to Tech Support for repair ... what damage does this condition cause? I have a DX6i that is dieing after a few minutes flying and with a full charge! Horizon is looking at the Receiver now .. they think I have a "dead" intermittent short in the system some where! There maube a connection between by problem and this one ... Leo

RE: Trouble Shoot this ...
"The 6200 will not light up when the rec is turned on, nor bind!" - The lights on the receiver are not coming on except for a very small blip as the switch is activated ... therefore there isn't a "solid" light on either of the 2 receivers ... I did notice the throttle servos is causing a compression of a sort when it moves forward ... I am now thinking that could possible be causing a "high" voltage ... I saw this the day I was charging and it was one of those things I was going to check later. Thanks for your reply. Leo

Trouble Shoot this ...
I have DX6i Tx and 6200 Rec. The 6200 will not light up when the rec is truned on, nor bind! This happen to the first one I had in the plane and the LHS owner replaced that one with this one. At the time the LHS Owner was checking the system we used different batteries which were fully charge to eliminate the possiblity of low voltage. He stated he thought the problem might be a bad servo ... the only Servo that wasn't present at the check out was the airlon sero in the wing I left at home ... I have flown the plane with this system twice since they were replaced without any problems ... I charged the rec. battery yesterday in prep for flying today ... also charged the Tx batteries ... now I am back to where I was to start with a non functioning and no lights rec. How can one tell if a servo is bad if it is functioning and responding to the commands. I am not trying to pick a fight about this ... rather I would like to understand how to check and trouble shoot better. Thanks for any and all help ... Leo

Busch Barber - Went to my local hobby shop and we took an servo extension, shaved it's width down with sand paper and now it works with the charger I have ... They had a Bind Plug that did fit with (I don't know how to express this technically) proungs which fit right into the charge plug and now the radio system is binded! I ordered the correct bind plug configuration! ($2.29 for both male and female bind plugs) ... Now everything works and my new engine is due this afternoon!

Another Bind Problem
I have a DX6i Tx which I’m having a problem binding with the AR6200 Rec.! I have a system switch in the plane which unfortunately my battery charger nor my Bind plug fit … so I goggled the binding problem with this set up and the answers I got basically had me use the Bind/Bat Port for binding plug and another port in Rec. for the battery to plug in … I used the aileron port in the rec. and proceeded to try to bind … the LED in the Rec. only shows a solid red light and has never flashed … and the system is not binding … the batteries are charged. So what have I missed and how do I get the system to bind! Leo

Removing Blue Color 40 LA
I was offered the use of OS 40 LA Blue Engine to use until my new OS 46 LA came in ... the Problem is the engine was very Dirty and had a lot of gummy Caster oil ... I usually clean engines like this in a crock pot ... but guess what ... the Blue (Paint) is coming off ... now with the owner permission I would like completely remove the Blue ... So what is the best way to do that without damage to the engine? Or re-blue the engine! Leo

I was cleaning an RC Engine in Crock Pot,with anti-freeze, and looked in on the process when I noticed I had a plastic throttle arm disintegrating in the solution![:@] I now make a point of double checking that there are no plastic parts on the engine. As strange as it may sound this process really works well ... but I don't advise leaving anything made of plastic on the engine![;)] Leo
