RE: Official Aerobird Swift Thread
I expect Hobbyzone or Parkzone will introduce a replacement to the Swift in the next coming years. When it's all working well add some X-Port modules. www.TheXPortZone.com

RE: Official Aerobird Swift Thread
Would anyone please be able to tell me what the exact distance between the tail wing screw holes is on the Swift? Is it 50 MM like the Xtreme or 30 MM like the Freedom/Challenger? I've ordered a Swift online but wanted to figure out what spare parts I could make or use from my other Hobbyzone planes. Horizon could only tell me that it looked like the distance between the two screws was somewhere in between 30 and 50 MM but I'd really like to find out for sure.

RE: Aerobatic Tricks for Zagi/Combatwings
I suspect you may have done all of the possible aerobatic moves possible but am also curious if there are others that we're missing. An interesting non-aerobatic thing you can do is install these light strips: http://cgi.ebay.com/R-C-RC-BLUE-LIGHT-KIT-AIRPLANE-HELICOPTER-AIRCRAFT_W0QQitemZ6005887836QQcategoryZ34056QQcmdZViewItem I bought a set of orange ones which are super bright and they run the full length of the leading edge and make for some interesting flying at night. The wide orange strips also provide additional visibility during the day. When the moon is out and I fly towards it it reminds me of a bat. I'm currently bidding on some inexpensive wireless video cams that the Zagi should have no problem carrying. I'll be sure to post some video when I get it going.

Overheating eFlight Brushless and ESC?
Please advise on this electric overheating issue: Setup: Zagi XS eFlite Park 400 brushless motor eFlite 40 amp brushless speed control 9.6 V NiCd 1800 Mah battery 5x5 stock prop The motor gets too hot to touch in only several seconds. The speed controller gets hot also. The motor and ESC are brand new. (Replaced after 20 Amp ESC and Park 370 burned out) It's been suggested that I use 5" prop with less pitch or a smaller prop. It's also been suggested that I use a 6x4 prop. Please confirm that prop size and pitch would make a noticable difference and which way to go would be best. I'm concerned that smaller props would be too small and fragile because they seem to be marketed for control line airplanes. Note: I'm not the type of flyer that is all crazy about speed and am very rarely on full throttle but would like to find a setup that I can not worry about the motor or ESC melting every other flight even during leisurely flights.

ABX Aerobird Xtreme - Build Replacement V-Tail
After buying too many replacement v-tails for my ABX I decided to be smart and use coraplast board, covering and control horns to assemble something that could withstand rough landings. Not to mention the unavoidable creases and bends put into them when transporting the flyer or simply bumping into a wall. Cut whatever shaped pattern you like as long as it resembles and has similar wing area as the stock one. Cut out elevon surfaces. Cover everything with a low temp covering like Ultracoat. One pair of Du-Bro control horns on the top and one pair on the bottom for the rubber band. Buy or make some control rods with small eyelets to attach the fishing line control wires to. Put a single bend in the rod at the control horn. Attach the v-tail to the tail boom with the stock bracket but use small nuts on top of the bolts since there is a bit of extra pressure with the coraplast. Attach the elevons with packing tape. I had a nosedive crash so bad every part of the ABX was broken beyond repair except for the coraplast tail wing that remained in perfect shape. You'll get more control by making the control surfaces the full width of the tail wing. If it hasn't been said enough before, I recommend always using Pro mode because if even you aren't experienced you will have a better chance of saving yourself instead of watching your plane helplessly smash into the ground. If you're not the builder type you can find these preassembled tail wings for sale on eBay.

RE: Aerobird Xtreme Servo Twitch
I recommend using only pro mode since the issue does not appear there. I had endless crashes in sport mode when there was even the slightest bit of wind. The difference between sport and pro is not that severe and you will enjoy the additional control. The difference being that the plane can be steered with much less stick movement but then you also have a better chance of preventing crashes by having more control with more stick movement. The trimming can be affected by the v-tail control horns getting sloppy. Use foam safe glue to secure them and check them before each flight. Also check the trim before each flight with the motor on full blast and then again off. I've seen the ABX circuitry do some strange things after it's up in the air. Good luck.

RE: Aerobird Extreme TIPS/HINTS - Wanted!
Nice tail skid suggestion, diviatix. Drill a hole in either side of the fuselage immediately in front of the circuit board. Thread a long zip tie through the hole in front of the circuit board and around the outside bottom of the fuselage. This will minimize the risk of the circuit board getting pulled off it's mounts during a crash. (Drill the holes as close to the circuit board as possible so the zip tie doesn't block any space the battery needs. If you don't get it, I'll send a photo. Also use foam safe glue around the v-tail control horns since they get wiggly in the foam after a bit and then trimming is unpredictable. Fly high when there is any wind. RE: Aerobird Xtreme opinion please
I learned to fly with an Xtreme and had many unnecessary crashes until I started using the ProMode. Unless it is completely calm and the plane is trimmed perfectly there is not enough contol in sport mode. I recommend putting a bit of foam safe glue around the v-tail control horns to take out the slop that develops with rough landings. Also check and recheck the trim with the motor off and on before taking off as many times I've thought everything was trimmed out fine and then had disasterous results. It should do OK in stiff winds if you are conservative and don't fly too close to the ground. With the stock setup I've enjoyed thermalling indefintely on several occasions and typically 20 minute flights with throttle management. You might find this post of mine useful someday... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3184823/tm.htm

Aerobird Xtreme Weak Spot and Inexpensive Repair
A typical result of fast nose dive landings for the Aerobird Xtreme is the internal circuit board mounts break free and an electronic component called a ceramic resonator mounted on the lower front of the board cracks or is destroyed on impact. This damage shuts down the entire plane's functions. Twice I spent $50 a pop to buy replacement fuselages with radio and servos installed. Then on the third crash there was enough of the resonator left to identify and research a replacement. The ceramic resonators can be purchased from mouserelectronic.com (Part # 815-HWZT-4.00MD) for $0.36 each. With some careful soldering I was able to revive all three $50 fuselages for only $1.08! I hope this helps rescue any disabled Aerobirds Xtremes from the trash and gets them up and flying again.

RE: Taping Advice Please for Zagi XS
Thanks everyone. I stuck to the instructions. Bought a 2nd roll of colored tape for top/bottom contrast. Went light on the spray adhesive and the tape has come up in a few areas but it doesn't seem to bother the flight much. I think I'll get all of the crashing out of my system and then redo with a sheet coating of some sort.

The local hobby shop clued me into the use of CA and Instant Set and I was back up flying in no time. Had them order a replacement canopy to have as a spare. Thanks for the tips on building one from scratch because that might be the plan if find that the thin plastic canopy becomes the weak link.

Plans/Tips on repairing motor mount
A recent crash of my Zagi XS left the motor mount hanging by a thread. Even if skillfully taped it back in place I expect it would be shaky. If anyone has any plans/ideas or photos of ways that have either repaired or enhanced their Zagi XS motor mount or comparable flyer please let me know.

Taping Advice Please for Zagi XS
Would anyone please recommend some tape covering advice for a Zagi XS. - Mainly concerned about excessive weight - Would like to have the wing look finished and not have exposed areas of foam or fiber tape. - Does the kit-included color tape contain fiber reenforcement? - Can the covering be peeled off and redone at any time? - Should I stop worrying and simply follow included instructions? Finally I located a link with some extended building instructions for an older Zagi. Does anyone now of such a site that may contain "new and improved" building instructions for the Zagi XS?
