RE: Radio Equip. Needs Question
I would suggest serching out a club local to you. Make friends and ask questions. Im sure you will find, like all clubs, that they are more than willing to help with your initial setup/choices and intoduction to flight. Also dont rule out the used market for equipment, often times you can find an older setup in the classifieds for an excellent price. When it comes to a transmitter make a choices based on the type of flying you plan on doing in the future not what your doing now. If you plan to get more complicated setups than invest in a good computer radio with model memory and mixing fuctions. If you only plan on doing light sport flying than a cheaper radio with fewer options will suffice and the money saved can be spent elswhere. When it comes to servos, buy the ones most suitable to the application. Your model should have suggestions as to what servos best fit the needs, make your choice around those requirements. As far as batteries go again dont over buy, choose those that fit thr requirements of the application, again your model should have suggestions. Remember money not wasted is money to spend elswhere. In the case of a Sig Kadet Mark II I would suggest four basic servos, nothing special is required, 35 to 40 in/oz is sufficiant. The JR 517 comes to mind. You should only need one servo extension for the ailerons all the others should plug directly into the receiver. For a battery I would suggest at least a 700mah pack. I would also suggest starting with a nicd pack as these are more forgiving and lend themselves to some one who is learning the hobby in that they are harder to ruin through charging practices.

RE: What happens if arf and kit building prices meet?
I guess my point didnt get across, I bought all these parts separately, they all fit nicley and are going to work together. Price: Airframe-65.00 Wings-99.00 Stabs-free from local member Cowling-40.00 Canopy-90.00 Gear 65.00 All of these parts are new except the fuse, that is a 35% Extra 260 for $359.00 how can you go wrong. Yes it took a little work, but less than building, and the funny thing is not all the parts are from thre same manufacturer. So I think before the price of arfs exceeds the price of building we will find that spare parts are now so accessible that for a reasoble price you can piece one together, much like the auto industry is now.

RE: What happens if arf and kit building prices meet?
Im not sure about you guys but have you even considered what it is you are getting when you buy one of these arfs? Who really makes it? Where did it really come from, is it an original part or just the same old thing with a few minor changes. Here in the United States if you buy a part for your Cadillac, Chevy, Gmc, or Hummer chances are it is the exact same part and it fits all of these makes. Its just kinda understood that all of these use parts from the same assy line on their vehicles. Well the Chines arf makers may be doing the same thing, case in point how many diff makes of arf can you name? all of these fit perfectly with only anti rotion holes modified.

RE: Hyundai vs. Mercedes C230
Here in Houston we have a place called Rankin Road and its where all the 3AM street racing is done, I can tell you from experience (watching) some folks can drive and some cant. Ive seen the whole spektrum of craziness. Girls in Miatas beating Vettes to Toyota 4Runners Beating Mustangs you just never can tell. Although this does kinda sound like "Star in a reasonably priced car" takes on the Stig.

RE: LHS Rant!
I live in the greater Houston area and the LHS I choose to go to does sell kits, arfs, etc. Just recently I spied a 1/3 scale Spacewalker which I wanted but didnt have the funds to purchase at the time. When I returned a week later it was gone, so obviously people in my area are still building and buying kits.

RE: Mom Hates R/C!! Help!!!
Perhaps you should introduce your Mother to some of the Kids (im sure you know some) that just sit in the dark and play video games all day. Then show her the recreational value of RC and how it gets you out of the house and stimulates your creativity. Explaine how its not just you playing with toys, but how you must come up with interesting and imaginable ways to correct problems or solve issues with your equipment. Problem solving is a gift and not something that is taught, dazzle her with your abilities and put on a good presentation, be prepaired for her arguments and stand tall on your argument. I believe if approached correctly you will not only change her mind but leave her feeling better, almost glad that you have and enjoy the hobby.

I have a friend who has used a windshield washer pump with gasoline for about ten years now, never had a broblem. I went and bought one just like his and mine failed immediately, go figure. My understanding is that you should not let them run while dry. I have also been told that BMW or Audi cant remember which has an excellent ww pump for fuel use.

RE: Dont Buy From SDSHOBBY!!!
I consider myself a good American, I try to buy American when I can, try it it is difficult but can be done. My hangar consists of Bud Nosen, Bob Godfrey, Midwest, Lanier, and the likes, I do not own any China arfs!! Nor do I own any China motors instead I run 3W, Zenoah, Brison, and Quadra. I buy from my local Hobby shop when I can and I dont bad mouth them when they dont have what I need. Alot of my fellow hobbiests are big believers in the new China batch of balogna but I still refuse to buy in. Call me old fashion, call me stubborn, but call me an American! Yes it is unfortunate and inevitable that somewhere in my hangar you will find some small items that are made in China but almost none I bought deliberately. You are correct that I just made a purchase directly from China and as you can see was very dissapointed whith it and not just in the handling of the purchase but the quality aswell. I did recieve my items today but again was very dissapointed. To answer your question, Yes, I answered all of their emails promptly and did expect my items in a timely manor. It seems the only problem that arose was that they wanted a copy of my paypal statement and account information, not two things that I felt comfortable giving them. And im sure its not their ussual practice to ask for customers financial info but they did this time. Mr. Scale 4 me only, I have gone back and checked all your posts, you seem to blast everyone and anyone who is not satisfied with something. I see alot of posts that are negative and very few positive, not sure why. I am happy for you that all of your items are great and you receive excellent service from everyone but thats not to say that people do have legitimate problems with service or quality. I hope that someday you find what it is your missing in your life and are able to fill that void. In the meantime try to take it a bit easier on your hobbiest brothers. I consider this issue dead and hope that moderators will see this and close this discussion!

Scale only for you huh, Perhaps it should be China only for you! You just blasted another member for constantly bashing HK in his posts yet here you are in another thread constantly supporting China. Perhaps you are in the wrong country. I dont think you have any idea what you are talking about, I responded to your countries emails promptly each time I recieved one. They did not try to deliver yesterday because I was at work all day and USPS doesnt deliver after hours! Now no matter what you think one month is not acceptable for an order no matter what part of the world it comes from! I could have swam to China and picked it myself in that time. My suggestion to you sir is to take a long hard look at where you live and decide what it is worth to you, when you have come up with that value ask yourself if you could be as happy in a communist country. If so I suggest you get yourself there ASAP because we have no room for you here. If you dont have something constructive to say I suggest you stay out of my threads from now on.

I back the OP 100% nothing is worse than underhanded practices, of any kind. Its just that much worse when its from our rivals. I personally have never ordered from HK but I have ordered from China and will never again. Sure their items are cheaper but at what price? I personally would rather spend a few extra dollars to get an item from somewhere else.

But no matter because when it comes down to it I placed this order on July 1st and today is August 1st and the only reason it even got sent is because I had to raise h$ll. This is crap and I will no longer do business with this company. By the way I still dont have my items!

RE: Unexplained loss of control
Yes I wrote the ground test procedures for the Irridum satellite system control. It was similar to a spread spectrum system at 3ghz. The only difference was it used a generated key for code synchronization instead of a pseudo random number generator.

Cool. Then you certainly will understand that FM, PCM and the various SS technologies are used to get the signal from the transmitter to the receiver. And you'll understand that the servos are independent of whcih broadcast method is used. So you must know that these receives downconvert the input to one or more IF frequencies that ultimately carry a pretty much similar signal that is output to the servos. I haven't studied SS since it's been a while since I worked RF systems but PCM, FM (both single and double conversion) and the much older AM ultimately 455KHz as the final IF frequency. And there is where the noise really can hurt, no matter what kind of broadcast system you use. As someone else pointed out, gas engine ignition problems have been blamed on RF interference for years with the new technologies promissing to fix it. But they didn't because the problem is not a broadcast RF technology problem. So, did you also write the EMI/EMC test procedures for the satellite? Have you done Tempest testing or anything like it? Do you remember that the number one problem in nearly all EMI/EMC issues is the power leads?
You guy's apparently need to refer to my work, I wrote the test procedures for the Turbo Encabulator. I have sent about twnty emails in the last week and no answer at all. something seems wrong here and now im out my money. I would suggest to anyone considering an order to not go through with it!!

RE: 72 mhz still ok?
All of these systems are ok to use and still viable. They are all subject to interference and all have their problems. I dont beleive that one is better than the other. At the end of the day you just try to do the best you can with what you have, the best radio in the world cant prevent operator error, poor installation, or bad practices. I have yet to make the leap to 2.4 only due to the abundance of high end 72 stuff for sale at great prices. Alot of people went to 2.4 believing that it was the end all to end all, and abandoned their 72 stuff only to find it to has some problems. Choosing the correct system for your particular application also makes a difference, like the submarine guys. I would suggest to anyone new to the hobby to look into any of these systems, because all of them (properly used) work great and will get the job done.

RE: Transmitter use
Ok, Im not trying to start a pi$$ing contest Im just really fed up with all the miss information I read on these forums. It may be your BELIEF that 72mhz radios have no value but that does not make it so. Again by your rational I should throw away my JR 10X becuase its a 72 mhz radio? This is silly, almost all 72 mhz radios now are upgradable to 2.4 if you wanted to. If this were true I would suggest to the OP that he should just ask you to send him one of these "worthless" radios for free and save his money. Come to think of it perhaps you can start sending them to me, Hell Ill pay the shipping. When it comes to a newbie in the hobby, get what you can to get in the air! It doesnt have to be the best, newest, most expensive as long as your having a good time. Down the road make a better decision based on what youve learned from experiance and not just what others suggest. I guess if 2.4 never came along all these guy's would have just givin up flying altogther, since 72mhz cant cut the mustard anymore.

RE: Transmitter use
It's just not a good business decision to buy a old radio.
This is just incorrect information at its best! To say that a good 7 to 10 channel radio on 72mhz has no value is just bologna! I have been flying for over 15 years and NEVER bought a New radio. So by your rational everything that I own is all worthless because its not new. This sounds like lhs owner needs to make a sell information to me. I would venture to say that those just getting started in the hobby will not overstep the bounderies of their first radio purchase for at least a year or two. In that time most will decide to continue or not continue in the hobby. Now what makes more business sense, to buy a 750.00 radio to learn on, only to have it deprciate to 250.00 when youve decided the hobbies not for you. Or to buy a 100.00 radio, and in a year need to buy another for 750.00? It doesn't take a business degree to figure out which is the best decision.

RE: Transmitter use
My very first Computer radio purchase was a Jr X-347, I still fly this radio today, and not on small glow stuff, its currently in a 35% cap 232. If you have the money by all means buy what you like but there is no reason to dismiss some of these older systems because of the new bells and whistles. It is a fact that you dont always get what you pay for, sometimes you can get even more.

RE: Transmitter use
I would not Leave out the used market when it comes to buying a transmitter. I also wouldnt buy into the whole 2.4 is the only way to go thing. We flew 72mhz for years and years just fine, and I still do. You can find a once very expensive radio and receiver setup on 72 now for very cheap. Alot of sailplane guys used to fly 50 mhz as well. If you check out the buy/sell section you can find some great deals on good equipment, a real quick sheach found this one which has a sailplane mode and is more than capable of doing everything you could ever need. http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=855961

RE: AMSOIL SABER 100:1 PRE MIX SYNTHETIC 2-CYCLE OIL AND AMSOIL QUICK SHOT FUEL ADDITIVE
For as long as I can remember I have been using the cheap noname brand oil from the local autoparts store, 1.50 a bottle. I use it in everything, even my outboard, never had a problem. Why would I waste my money on magic oil that costs 10.00 a bottle for the same result? I have a G45 thats about 15 years old now and still runs great, so do I believe that magic oil makes things run better last longer, NO. Do I believe thaty cheap poor oil makes things run last shorter, Sure. Is it more likley that improper user maintenance and mixing are to blame, YES!
