RE: exhaust
I am just a basher, no racing here, but I would want to be faster instead of louder. It's like those import cars, they make alot of exhaust noise but my stock Durango R/T walks right by them no problem. I would think that the loud guys would come see you wanting to know how you passed them so easy if you got your truck dialed in for that particular track.

RE: New REVO 3.3 (Bad Luck)
Check the E-Z start wiring. The yellow wire is known to get cut right by where it bolts down. Mine was like that when I first got it and I hadn't even ran it yet. Just take a look and see if you get lucky. Maybe you'll end up with a free motor.

RE: Easy Question about Revo 3.3 Transmitter
Are there any other transmitters that work the same way the spektrum does or do they have the market cornered right now?

Easy Question about Revo 3.3 Transmitter
Long story short, my bull mastiff boxer mix puppy ate my transmitter!!! No biggey, part of owning a dog, but obviously I now need to get a replacement. I have the 3.3 and want to keep the reverse on the truck. My question is do I have to get a 3 channel tx and rx to keep reverse? I really like the Spektrum 2.0 and 3.0. The 2.0 is less expensive but if I need the 3 channels then I guess I'll need the 3.0. Am I correct so far or have the nitro fumes got to me? If you can suggest a tx and rx combo that is as good or better for about the same price then let me know. P.S. I know I could just get a replacement tx from Traxxas and save some money but the wife doesn't know that. This is a good excuse to upgrade!! Thanks for your time. Peace.

RE: Anyone Own a Revo 3.3?
This might be a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway. Will upgrades for the 2.5r work on the 3.3? Is the only difference between the two the motor and extended chassis? I think I'm over simplfying the question. Basically are the parts off of both trucks interchangeable? I see alot of parts for the 2.5r Revo but not the 3.3 Revo so that led me to conclude that parts for the 2.5r would work on the 3.3. That led me to beleive that between the two everything is the same except the motor and longer chassis. I hope that came out right. Thanks, EWR

RE: Anyone Own a Revo 3.3?
Ya, Bill the fuel is new (maybe 3 weeks old). It came in a "starter package" from the lhs. It's Wildcat Eliminator fuel. I don't know if this is a good fuel or not. I plan on getting Traxxas fuel or another name brand type fuel that i have seen before. I bring up the fuel because here in Houston it is getting like a sauna again and when I went to fill up the tank this morning there was some condensation in the bottle. The bottle was sealed tight and up, away from the water heater in the garage. As far as the needle settings they with in 1/8 to a 1/16 of factory. And as discodan suggested I need to get a temp. gun. Any tips on leak testing? I don't even know where to begin. If this is a sore spot because it has been asked in other threads, then if you could just point me in the right direction I'll read it myself so it doesn't make anyone angry. Thanks, EWR

RE: Anyone Own a Revo 3.3?
Ok, I've read every page of this thread and want to say thank you to all that have contributed. Some of the info in here is not in the manual or DVD and is only learned through time and experience. Thanks again. Now this is my first nitro vehicle of any kind. Back in the day the first r/c thing i got was an electric rc-10t when they first came out. I had alot of fun with that thing and it was very fast with the brushless motor i put in it. I never wanted a nitro car or truck because of the required maintenance and the messy fuel. This was some 10 years ago I guess. I was just recently turned on to electric helicopters and bought a fixed and collective pitch. Anyway I'm rambling and boring the heck out of you guys. Being online looking for heli parts i saw the REVO 3.3 and had to have it. My wife wasn't too happy about the cost but I bought and apologized for it later.[;) I have done the break-in per the book and drove it a handfull of times. The last being Saturday. Got a little frisky with it but nothing crazy. It rolled over twice on it's roof (no somersaults, just turning too tight and rolling over). Today I got it out and fired it up and it just didn't want to work. I had to ever-so slowly roll on the throttle and as soon as it would start to move, with a nice puff of exhaust smoke comming out, it would die.[8|] After 10-15 min. of this, I brought it in and re-read the book. Not alot of troubleshooting in there. This is when I noticed the tank was empty. I had filled it up before I started and hadn't run it long enough to run the tank that low?!? I also noticed alot of what I guess was fuel dripping out the exhaust pipe. It had the same consistency and color as new motor oil. I refilled the tank and went at it again. This time i was able to into second gear a few times and it started to run ok. I brought it in and decided to re-tune it according to the instructions. It ran great before I brought it in and after reading the book and making some adjustments I fired it up and it ran pretty bad until it got up to operating temps. and then it ran ok??? I just don't get it, it was fine Saturday and crappy today. I always put after run oil in it when done and run all the nitro out of it before that. I pretty much baby the heck out of this thing as far as the maintenance. I don't know if my nitro went bad from being in the garage or if something stuck in the carb. or what?? Maybe I tuned it wrong but I did it just like the manual said to. And could that be related to the nitro (or whatever that was) coming out the exhaust pipe? I don't think it's too rich because it isn't puffing exhaust like a diesel. I just don't know. I know this a pretty long post but I wanted to explain the problems as best i could so ya'll would know as much as i do about it. Any help or suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance, EWR

RE: Took the plunge!!
you guys are correct. i got air filter oil and shock oil. i finished the break-in and noticed an oil leak that seemed to be coming from the exhaust pipe where it screws into the motor. the e-z start was in the way so i took it a part to check the exhaust manifold screws. they were a little loose so i tightened them up. after that i went over the whole truck and tightened up everthing i could see. i also had to adjust the steering servos and linkages to get them to center up with the trim pot on the tx. also had to repair the yellow wire for the e-z start. it came from traxxas with a gash in it. i just put some heat shrink on it. just some things i thought i would pass along. now for another question. my revo seems to rev-up a little higher than i think it should before it starts to roll. now this could just be me being un familiar with nitro trucks as i am still a newbie. i don't know if i should try and adjust the clutch or just let it be for now. i don't want it to be slipping too much and burning up but i also don't want it too tight and flipping over backwards when everything is finally tuned in. what do you think?? and is there a tool or an easy way to get the glow plug wire off without damaging the insulation around the end? P.S. i still have to do the final carb adjustment per the manuel(high speed needle low speed needle and idle. although it idles just fine right now but after the two needle adjustments it will need to be changed again.) thanks EWR

RE: Took the plunge!!
she isn't afraid of as in scared. she's just seen how fast they are and doesn't think she can handle it. and that's great for me!!!! i think she is relating it to my r/c helicopter. it is fully upgraded with cnc head and tail parts and has a headspeed of approx. 1900 rmp. with carbon fiber blades it even scares me sometimes. LOL i just can't wait to pull the throttle all the way back and watch it go.

RE: Took the plunge!!
now that i have it she won't touch it because she's afraid to break it. LOL. she was all for it before she saw how much it cost but now she doesn't want to be responsible for breaking a $600 truck (that's including everything in the box and a starter kit that had fuel, cleaner, 2 extra glow plugs, misc. tools, fuel bottle ect. ect.) especially after all the grief she gave me. i could see the "$600 dollars?!?!? you got ripped off" replies coming so i just wanted to explain what all i got for the price. i also thought of another question. if you want to just tell me to re-read the manuel that's fine but i can't do it right now as i'm suppost to be working and not online in the office but are the diffs. and transfer case filled from the factory with lube? i noticed that there was a bottle of silicon lube with the truck packing but i had so much going on sunday that i forgot to check the manuel for directions on that subject and went to breaking it in without checking them. i hate it when i do things like that. and not knowing is going to kill me all day until i get home.

RE: Took the plunge!!
yeah i made it all the way thru tank 3. if i can start with tank 4 that would be great. i felt stupid driving up and down the street 30 to 40 feet at a time then braking to a stop, turn around and repeat. i have this bad *** new truck and all the neighbors and kids see me do is THAT?[:)] i know it's all part of the process but they don't and i thought that if i was them i would find it very funny looking! so this won't hurt the motor any?

Took the plunge!!
well i went out and did it. i picked up a revo 3.3 on sunday. now the bank account is gone and the wife has steam coming out her ears!! but i think she'll be ok. i do have a question about the break-in period. i started that afternoon but some things came up and i wasn't able to finish. being a newbie, i am using the traxxas recommended procedure and i made it thru the 3 rd. tank. that is when i had to stop. will starting back up on the fourth tank be ok? should i start over? and lastly will not be able to finish the break-in all at once damage or hurt the motor? any and all replies are welcomed and thanks in advance! i look forward to talking with all of you and running the hell out of this truck!! RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
can someone tell me the trick to putting the rotor head on? i had to buy a new one after a crash and the best way i could see to put it on was to pinch the bearing holder(the tee thing at the top, sorry i don't know the correct name of the part) and i still had to use some force to get it on. a few flights later one side popped out and back to the needle nose pliers. i don't think i used the proper procedures to put the rotor head on. now i'm flying with 2 zip ties around the rotor head and bearings and one on the very top to keep the 2 from sliding off. thanks EWR

RE: belt installation for the DF36
to get the most out of the heat sink, yes you should take the clear shrink off and attach the sink directly to the chips with hi temp adhesive. then shrink the whole thing, when it cools, cut out around the fins of the heat sink. EWR

RE: belt installation for the DF36
mine is in the same spot. mounted with zip ties. the align has a heat sink on it all ready but (i don't know why they did it this way) the sink was put on over the heat shrink. makes no sense. i have seen a mod where the section of shrink is cut out and the sink is attached directly to the bec(??) or whatever electronic parts it is suppost to be attached to. i haven't had any problems with my esc like it is. i would recommend heat sinks on everything that can get too hot even if it doesn't. a cool motor or esc is a happy motor or esc. and they will last longer too. as far as what to mount it to, if yours has the clear shrink on it you should be able to see the chips soldered to the board. that is where i beleive it should attached too. just use some hi temp adhesive from lhs to put it on with and then reshrink it. then use a razor knive or exacto blade to cut out around the shrink so the heat sink can breath. just don't use a torch to shrink it down with or all the electronics will fall off the board in front of you.[:D] a hair dryer or heat gun on low should work but i would ask the experts behind the counter at your lhs the best way to do it.

RE: belt installation for the DF36
i just thought of something. i bet the pinion bore is a hair bit larger than the shaft. when you were tightening it down it made the pinion sit a little crooked on the motor shaft. (if i didn't know better this sounds like a really bad romance novel) lol when you would fly the helicopter the pinion was wobbling all over the place and that would cause it to loosen up. i bet you won't have any more problems with the mesh set-up and the pinion tightened down.

RE: belt installation for the DF36
i used a suggestion from someone on here to get the mesh of the gears set and it works great. loosen the 2 screws that hold the motor in place and take a piece of copier paperand feed it thru the main gear and the pinion. it should for an accordian shape on the otherside. just tighten the motor back down before you remove the paper from in between the gears. when i did this, the gear meshing was perfect. no binding at all and my gears still look new. let me know how it works. RE: Super-Skids
buy them, they are a good upgrade. you won't have any problems with weight and they will help with rough landings. they do weigh a little more but not alot and that will help you control the heli if you are a new pilot. i'm happy with them.

RE: belt installation for the DF36
good question about the esc brake option. i think that was covered somewhere in the large 36 thread. i'll do some research and let you know. my heli spins around about 180 degrees when i start it up too. i felt pretty confident i had the soft start on but maybe not. i also want to find out about the brake as well. it has something to do with the esc being in an airplane but like i said i need to do some more research.

RE: belt installation for the DF36
that does sound drastic but hey if it works for you that's all that matters. i wonder if the pinion hole is a size or two too large. can you see alot of light when you put the pinion on the shaft and look down on it from the top? maybe the grub screw size is the right size for that pinion but too large to get a good bite on the shaft. did the pinion and grub screw come with the motor or are they the original one off the heli? have you tried to grind a flat spot on the shaft to give the grub screw enough surface area to bite down on? i know that's alot of questions but i'm just trying to think of something that might have been overlooked. let me know what happens.
