RE: 1st heli flight : Scary

I've heard that these have the highest crash record ever... Maybe these pilots feel too comfortable with it

more than any other reason is more people fly them then any other helicopter. but yes given the choice i would go up in something other than a robby. i have 250 hours in helis and over around 150 of it in a r22. they are the cheapest way to fly for a long time but when they do break its usually big $$ to repair. turbines are great but cost way more to fly and just way to much for training in unless you need time in type. i only have 10 hours turbine do to $$. 50 gallons an hour minimum fuel burn adds up really fast. r22 is 8gph - 10 depend on how you fly it.

RE: Going from Helicopters to Planes
what type of flying do you want to do with the plane? and how big of an area will you be in? truthfully these need to be anserwed before any advice can be given. but mostly likely you' be flying a foamie soon.

RE: how to determine prop size?
now you know 2 people because i have 3 different types [:D] 6 inch pitch means in a perfect world it would pull the plan forward by that amount for every 1 rotation of the prop. high pitch higher pull lower pitch lower pull. 3d flying uses lower pitch/ pull so (ie 4.7*) the motors stay in their respective efficient power ranges.

RE: alternate motor application
avalentine run a flight logger on it . first run it 1/2 - 3/4 and read the results then if its good run it 100% and come back and read the results. better to be safe then rekitting.

RE: Better 3D ship??
Well I had a bad day today. I had some good but its now time to buy another heli. While flipping it end over end it shut off and I flipped it back right side up and did a great auto but the wind blew the heli towards the trees and I made it 7/8th of the way through them only to tap a branch and POOF up side down and in the road. Then you know whats next. So anybody have a shuttle plus without an engine? If not I decided to go with the Hawk. Come to find out the glow plug burned out in flight must have been to lean. If anyone has a cheap Plus please email me directly. tom

RE: Better 3D ship??
When I say they look a like I mean that Hirobob has moved the tank to the rear and it has a very similar looking head. Again, I have not seen a Hawk in person but throught pics online they do have similar traits and the Sceadu is nothing like any of the shuttles. As for getting slopy is it the ball joints or does the whole thing loosen up (frame bolts, enigne mounts??) tom

Better 3D ship??
Which helicopter is better a shuttle Sceadu or the Hawk IV? I am about to start 3D flying and I have a Shuttle Plus. I was going to buy a Shuttle Sceadu for a second ship figuring that I would always want a back up set the same for when I crunch the first. I realize they are different but I have always had good luck with my shuttle. I would buy a a second Sceadu after the shuttle crashes. Or my option is to sell the shuttle now and buy 2 hawks right up front and start there. So this creates the dilema of which way to go? The Hawk is less money and cheaper for parts but I've never seen one fly in person. Is this a good 3D transition ship or shoul I stay with the shuttle? Bye the way I have noticed that the Sceadu look an aweful lot like the Hawk. Right now my skill level is nose in, loops, rolls, hammer heads, split s's, 1/2 cubans. thanks for any help. tom
