RE: Why do people keep calling it TURBIN as in trashbin instead of BINE?
ORIGINAL: rcjetsaok
ORIGINAL: erbroens These words have a bad connotation because they are related to the storm ''whirling'' winds.
That being said, I guess I have a Turbine in my Butt and didn't know it . [X(] D
Yes, Danno, you knew it....you were just calling it something else! [:D]

Kostas "Gus" Portokalos has long ago proven that all words derive from the Greek language. [:D]

RE: SM large Viperjet Cockpit mounting?
The instrument hood is attached by Velcro to 2 pieces of L shaped graphite angles. The graphite pieces were scrap material and are glued to the sides of the fuselage. The forward edge of the instrument hood is attached by Velcro to the bottom of the G-10 that I described in the previous post. By using Velcro to attach the hood, it can be removed easily to access the batteries which I've mounted on the outside of the nose gear bay.

RE: SM large Viperjet Cockpit mounting?
Hi Thomas, The forward portion of the cockpit is a fixed piece of G-10 that fits in the half moon space in front of the instrument hood. I used a piece of cardboard to make a template, then using trial and error, fitted the G-10, then painted it flat black and glued it in place.

RE: SM large Viperjet Cockpit mounting?
These photos show the ease of installation when you're ready to fly. My VJ has about 80 flights on it and the cockpit attachment has withstood the test of time. Since the tubs are screwed onto the frame, they are easily removed for cleaning, repair, etc. I hope that the photos have helped explain this mounting method.

RE: SM large Viperjet Cockpit mounting?
These photos show the tubs when attached to the canopy frame. The yellow colored material along the edges of the tubs are 10mm wide strips of G10 which have been glued to the tubs. The G10 stiffens the fragile edges of the tubs as well as provides material for the button head screws to grip to. The button head screws can be seen around the perimeter of the frame. Since the screw heads are not flush to the canopy frame fiberglass, you may need to relieve some fiberglass on the fuselage portion of the cockpit opening. To locate the areas needing to be relieved, dab a black marker pen onto the screw heads and then install the canopy onto the fuselage. When the canopy is removed you will notice black dots where the screw heads are located. I used a round carbide bit in a Dremel to remove a slight amount of material until the canopy frame was flush to the fuselage cockpit opening. It is trial and error to get a good fit.

RE: Mt. Pleasant TX - 2012 Texas Jets
Wow! What a great time! Thanks to Gus, Doug, Ernie, Bob-O, and the many other folks who put on such a great event. I haven't seen Gus in 8 years and many of the other pilots since the Greater Southwest in Greenville in 1995. This was a coming home for me.... I was born too far north. Thanks again to all for the fun time and memories!

Liberty Bell Jet Rally ** CANCELLED **
Our longtime host airport, Donegal Springs Airpark, was recently sold. Earlier today I spoke with one of the new owners and was informed that the partners were declining our request to hold the LBJR at their airport. Many of you have sent pre-registration forms with payment. All checks will be returned this week. We have had the support of the finest jet pilots since 2002 and count all of you as family and have considered the LBJR as a big family reunion. Wishing everyone the best and I look forward to seeing you at the jet meets!
ORIGINAL: bcovish Believe me Mike, it was worth the trip. The only problem I had was on the way home, I got caught in an ice storm in Pecos TX pulling Scott's trailer. Had to spend a extra night in a hotel. Mike, and you too can become a tour guide and receive all the bennies that come with it.[;)] We will discuss further at Mt. Pleasant next week.
ORIGINAL: bcovish
ORIGINAL: gushudson Mike Lesher called and said there was a 50/50 chance he could make it. I'll bet he shows up. Gus
Mike, 50/50 is unacceptable, 100/0 would be a whole lot better. You still owe Gus and I for attending the Liberty Bell Jet Rally a few years back. So get on your Harley, your trusted steed or whatever mode of transportation you have and get on down here. Kent is coming, so you, Kent and myself can have a little PA reunion. Thanks very much to Larry, Robert, Michael, and the many behind the scenes people who worked hard to put together a great event for us. And many thanks to the Mayor, Town Council, and Steve Moore (FBO operator) for all of the support that the City of Wilson provided to FIF. Frankie hit it right...... make it a week long event! Thanks again!

RE: Spacing between turbine nozzle and tailpipe?
Hi Mario, The ideal distance for a Rhino is 1.5" between the end of the tailcone and the entrance of the bellmouth. I use a Rhino in 2 airframes and find that distance to be a good balance between thrust and cooling. Wishing you the best with your new jet!
