RE: still won't idle
That pulse line has to be connected or you will never get that engine to run correctly, that is what moves the diaphram [fuel pump] to keep fuel in the carb under a small amount of pressure.

RE: help me id this hydroplane work in progress
Riggers are a hydro with all the pretty parts cut out, yes they are fast and yes they are ugly,,,,,, One of my first boats was a dumas miller it was heavy, did not turn well but at 50 mph it was a great learning tool, finish it and run it with a nitro engine and you will most likley step up to a better hull later.

RE: Saito 91 intake valve leaking will not run.
If it has no compression after the rocker is removed some thing is holding the valve off of it's seat , look to see if the valve guide has droped down and holding the valve where the stem flairs out to head of the valve,,,,,, or carbon build up in guide possibly.

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster 60 Kit - First Timer
The ss was the plane I flew between my trainer to my byron f16 ducted fan in 1980. It is a great flying plane but with a bit of cg tweeking it can be a plane to keep you on your toes and realy hone your skills, mine started with a K&B 60 but soon got replaced with a os 77 ducted fan engine and was a bit crazy at well over the 100mph mark! Anyway build her straight and light as possible and you will love that SUPER SPORTSTER........

RE: The great engine debate.
WHAT!!!! ALL glow engines use nitro in the fuel except fai airplanes were it is in the rules not to have any in the fuel , soooo a "nitro engine is really called a glow type engine unless you are running dragsters and those are 4 stroke nitro engines.

RE: Is it mandatory to mount Gas Engines Inverted?
A glow engine will collect unburned oil at idle and snuff the glow plug when inverted but I don't think you will have any of that issue with a gas engine at all.

RE: 81 O.S. initial setting
OS did have issues with cylinders delaminating due to the plating process on some of the older engines , I belive they solved that long ago so the new piston / liner should be the trick .....good luck!

RE: How big of a generator do I need ?
Wire the battery into your charge circut on your vehicle , so when the battery charge is low just start up the truck for 15 min. and your good to go, most all cars and trucks now have at least a 60 amp alternator and I know my truck has 120 amp.

Also increase the guage of wire on the leads as the are way too small to carry any amps to start the larger engines.

RE: ...unusual carb?
That is correct CMB made the basic castings for the engine , then Andy Brown took it from there , probably one of the most powerful in its size (.67) like the CMB it has a forged steel rod using 21 needle bearings on the crank pin !!!

RE: ...unusual carb?
I have not seen anyone running os engines in competition for many years as they do not have the port work or even use a connecting rod that could put up with any big power and rpm numbers, They are a very good running engine and are easy to tune, great for airplanes. The big boys of racing in the boat world are MAC,CMB, PICCO, ROSSI and a few OPS , you can see a big difference in the size of the ports just by looking on the outside of the case..

RE: O.S. 91 VR - Ducted Fan
Actualy the OS 77 ducted fan engines and the marine versions use the same piston and sleeve, I know this as I have run a 77 marine in my byron f 16all I did was swap the head out.The engines do have the torque and medium rpm range my 77s would spin a 6inch 5 blade fan at 19,800 producing 12lbs thrust.... not bad for a .77 engine...

Yup super job on that pt40 I also learned on one way back before simulators , needless to say that plane took a beating but she lived thru it , after I soloed I got another wing kit and built it with 1/4 of the diehedral and found it's roll rate was much improved...
