RE: trimming question
If it goes to the canopy in the verticals, and you're happy with the downthrust, you should increase the wing incidence slightly, not decrease it? I always think of the "Effective" elevator position, when working out pitch problems. If you have too little incidence on the wing, you'll need a bit of up elevator trim to fly level,in level flight, to balance the downward pull of gravity. This same up elevator trim, will cause a slight pitch to the canopy, when going vertical, because the pull of gravity is now effectively parallel to the fuselage, rather than at right angles to it.

I have a friend with the 18mz, and he had a similar thing I believe(I fly JR,and the details are of course outside my comprehension, or budget). I think it's something to do with the signal speed, and it can be made to work with the jeti escs by using an optional ,slower, channel(possibly channel seven, but check the manual perhaps?)

RE: Plettenberg 30-10 evo and Jeti 90
Don't know if it helps, but I have a Pletty 30-10/ Jeti spin 99 set-up, and,I think on Jeti's advice (not certain,it's some time ago), the acceleration is set fairly slow at 0 to 100 % in two seconds. The delay is easy to get used to-very similar to the old two-stroke winding-up of yesteryear really-and I've never had the problem you're describing.

RE: E firewall for Bravo
Hi Chris, this is the way I do it, to mount the rear of an out runner to a firewall: 1/ Attach the spinner backplate to the motor’s prop driver. 2/With 1/161/8th spacers between the backplate and the fus.nose, tape the backplate and motor securely in place. 3/ Cut a small square of liteply, just big enough to carry whatever fixings (eg bolts) you will be using to fix the motor to the firewall, and fix it to the back of the motor. 4/ cyano multiple 1/8 or so balsa sticks to the liteply square, with each stick radiating out to touch the fus sides. You’ll end up with something like this: Uploaded with ImageShack.us 5/Remove the porcupine, draw round the edge, and produce a liteply firewall template., to check the fit to the fus, fixing points, &c. For the actual firewall, I use two layers of 1/8 liteply, with the outer ply grains at 90 degrees to each other, skinned with 200 gram/sq.metre carbon or glass cloth front and back, all fixed under pressure(I use g-clamps, melamine-faced chipboard, with black polythene bin-liner separating film),using wing-skinning epoxy. I glue the firewall in,bolted up to the back of the motor, with 24-hour araldite, reinforced with beads of 30-minute epoxy/micro balloons around the margins, front and back faces. Here(shades of Blue Peter) is one I made earlier: Uploaded with ImageShack.us

RE: T-Can virgin requires info
With regard to fixing, I merely copied CPLR's original method, when I made one for my Abbra way back in 2006. Just moulded a sheet of carbon cloth/epoxy( to the canopy top I'm guessing-don't remember), glued it to the vertical fin, and fixed it with double-sided sellotape under the moulding, and sellotape around the edges. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Not the most aesthetic way,but it stayed on OK, and was easy to remove if necessary. Incidentally, since then, I've just used the vertical fin part,on several models;no bother with incidences, and effectively increases rudder power just the same....

RE: Jeti Spin 99 Brake and End Point Settings
Hello Malcolm, I've never had any problems with the brake actuating, using the following: My Spin 99's lowest setting,on "manual set", is 1.0 msec, so, with the Tx throttle trim set at the mid point, I then set the Tx low-throttle travel adjust to be 1.0msec also, as measured by my jeti-box thingy. Then I put the low-point throttle setting on the Spin99 to "Auto". As an aside, my Tx full-throttle highest setting is 1.90 msecs, so I put that setting to "manual" on the Spin99, and dial in the same timing on it with the jeti box-and put "auto inc end-point" to "On",in case I ever bend the throttle stick past the top of the gimbal.... Additionally, I use two throttle curves on the Tx, identical except for the lowest start point. One curve starts at 0, which I use for the brake-on(and which I have as the default arming position). The other one starts at whatever small number above 0, will just maintain the slowest-possible idle. I can switch between the two curves at will ,usually having the brake "off", except when wanting to have a slower down line for stuff like the 4-point vertical down, or 1 1/2 rolls down, in F11. Kind Regards, Alan.
Buy a Honda and forget about it.
Yes,that's what I did,as a completely non-techi flyer, on advice from here and else where. It's been a sensible way to go,for me. However, with the arrival of much better batteries, and them being much cheaper now, I'm wondering Would an alternative strategy be, to buy enough packs for a day's flying(say six?),and have more chargers (say three?),and (say) two power supplies, and charge solely at home?

RE: MasterSpin 99 low voltage cut
I lost an Integral a couple of winters back in similar circumstances...soft low-voltage cut-off(3.0V/cell). Even though I had the lowest setting (brake) activated, there wasn't enough left to get back to the grass patch, and landing on frozen ploughed clay wrote off the airframe. I decided that the potential loss of a 10S pack, was preferable to the total write-off scenario as above, and so now I set the cut-off voltage at 2.0V/cell,and stick religiously to an 8-minute timed flight... more than enough for any current FAI schedule. It's still possible to make mistakes (or at least I can!), but on each of three subsequent occasions (two of flying a discharged pack by mistake, one when a single cell went down), the loss of power (without cut-off) was so obvious, that it was possible to land with adequate capacity remaining to retain full control.

RE: National Ranking? Advancement system
Obviously much smaller numbers of pattern flyers here, but the following used to work quite well in the UK: Anyone scoring more than 60% of the marks possible,in any class, at two comps in one season, was required to go up one class. The "promoted" pilot had the option to delay going up to the next class, until the beginning of the following season.
One more bit to look at.......the newest APC 21x14E is 130 grams.......compared to the 109 gram prop, RPM increases, and amps drop, and mah per flight drop as well.
InterestingI have three of the 109-gram APC21x 14 e-props (didn't know there were any others actually) and they're the only APCe props that I can't use on my Gaudius-they make awful resonating noises in flight at various rpms-which don't occur with the similar load/weight 20.5x14APC,or indeed with a Rasa folder, or a carbon21x14,which looks to be a steal from the APC 21/14 mould. Was there any reason given, as to why the latest APC 21X14 should have increased in weight to 130 grams?

RE: Arming Switch
.
With my setup, you would have to bind to the receiver to turn on the esc,
I'm by no means up with the technicalities of E-flight, (and just use an external 5.5mm bullet connection in the + line from the motor battery to the ESC). Wouldn't your method eat up a little too much time perhaps? Just saying that in view of the (New?) ruling from the FAI bosses as operated at the recent European champs, where the final connection to arm the motor had to be within the eight minutes total allowed for the flight?

RE: A llittle help here
I'm no expert by any means, but just by observation, the IR numbers on any particular pack can change from day to day,in the sort of regions you are describing, using the same charging regime(in my case 10s 5000mAH at 1C). Again in my experience , the variable seems to be the ambient temperature during the charge-the warmer it is, the lower the IR numbers will be.

RE: Electric 'crappola' thread
I run a similar set up (APC 21X14, Pletty, Jeti Spin 99), and, although I'.ve never measured temps, the esc is never even warm to the touch on landing. Admittedly, it's very rare to have a truly hot day here (UK),but we do sometimes have it into the 80s F. The motor, on the other hand, is frequently too hot to touch at first,on landing. Could it be something to do with how good/bad the cooling airflows are, on individual models? Certainly my motor cooling arrangements don't look great. My esc ,on the other hand,is on stalks right in a good airflow from the front hole in the chin cowl, whereas I've seen a lot of installations with it velcroed/stuck to a fus side, which I'd guess is not as draughty?

RE: ZN Line Xigris
however it may be more beneficial to go with a singular deeper fin to remove the pitch couple.
From my experience on a couple of models, a single 4" tall (dorsal) vertical fin ,in the shape of a shark's dorsal fin, also changed the pitch couple quite substantially. In K/E, it changed the rudder-to-elevator mix needed, from just a little "up", to a lot(double figures on my JR Tx) of "down". I'm just a simpleton flyer,so no idea of the theories involved, but gradually cutting down on the height of the vertical fin, eventually gave a near no-mix situation...and the increased rudder power is still evident...

RE: Good cheap ESC, are there any?
Just one fellow's experience(me), but the cheap esc, and to a lesser extent, the cheap motor, route, for F3A electrics, don't work out too cheap in the medium-to-long term. I started out with a cheapish far east ESC, which failed on flight one,due to the high current draw of the hotter of the two then-popular Dualsky F3A motors. I then used the CC 85HV ESC ,which coped fairly well with the Dualskys, until one of the Dualskys burnt out, and took the CC 85HV with it. Since then,I've had literally hundreds of trouble-free flights, along with many more useful extra facilities, offered by the initially more expensive jeti spin 99 ESC,and its jeti box companion thingy. This has been with the AXI F3A motor.... a bit on the heavy side, and relatively noisy IMO, but powerful and reliable, for me at least. Also I have used a couple of the Plettenberg 30-10 evo motors,(most used of all), and they have been superlative in any respect you could think of,except for the initial cost. But over two or three seasons, cost per flight, the jeti/pletty combo has been easily the cheapest,I'd guess.... Again just my experience, but where you can save(and this is becoming more so each month almost) is with the cheaper battery packs now available. Provided you can afford up to about four ounces extra weight, I've found that my Rhino 4900 5sx2 F3A packs are slightly more powerful, with slightly higher residual voltage, than my "generation 3" (latest ) Hyperion 5sx2 5000 F3A packs,at about one third of the price. Moreover, both the Rhinos and the Hyperions, are well ahead of my original Flightpower F3A packs, in terms of keeping low IR numbers, and in terms of numbers of schedule-capable cycles before deterioration.

RE: 4 Bladed RASA Folding prop
I couldn't innovate to save my life, so Good Luck and Best Hopes to anyone who can.....but,it seems to me,that current electric set-ups with 2 blades, fixed or Rasa-type,already have whatever you could want,in terms of thrust, braking, and lack of noise. Just my opinion, of course, but where improvements could still come, is in the area of countering the effects of the inevitable spiral air flow off any rotating-blade-type propulsion system. So, flow straighteners/canalisers/shaped bits on the fuselage, or simpler/much cheaper contra-rotating blades(than those used by Mr. Silvestri for example) without too much loss in efficiency, might be a more likely route?
