RE: Saito 90TS
I have one of these engines running on a glo driver, it will only run on one cylinder, checked valves, glo plug, all ok. I can't put it back into a plane in the current state. I never had any issues with my os 160 twin. so I am a little confused

RE: Help with edr-103 glowlite
hey, I am with you on gas vs glo. I have both, and I prefer the sound and operation of a four stroke. I have 5 two cylinder, 1, 3 cylinder, and 1, 5 cylinder 4 stroke engine. Tho gas chain saw sound is not for me. All these guys that brag about how much money they save not using glo fuel will cry when they start loosing their fields

RE: Help with edr-103 glowlite
I dont know why EDR shows the system set up with the plugs in series. If you look at the failure modes, in series, if a plug fails open, you lose the operation of the other plug. If a plug fails short, the other plug will burn out with excess voltage applied. With the plugs in parallel, if one fails open the other plug is unaffected, If a plug fails short, it will take all of the current and the other plug will go out. Comparing the two failure effects, in the series system any plug failure will loose the system operation, and may burn out the good plug too. In the parallel set up, one type of failure only looses 1/2 of the system without burning out the other plug, and the other failure looses the system. I think parallel wins, especially if you opt not two fly two parallel batteries and save some weight. All of this is academic if you are going to go ignition on glo. My experience with that kind of setup was a great idle and not much if any improvement in the air

RE: Help with edr-103 glowlite
if you put the two gloplugs in series, you have to double the battery voltage (two cells in series) to get the correct current through the plugs. If you put the gloplugs in parallel, you may need a larger battery mah capacity at the single cell voltage or two cells in parallel.. The servo lead on the EDR connects to a wye connection from the throttle port on your receiver. One lead of the wye goes to your existing throttle servo, one lead goes to the edr 103 plug. The extra connector you mention should go to a wire with a LED indicator light. This light is mounted somewhere on your plane where you can see it, it will tell you the glo plug is powered. If you do not have the LED light. you might be able to get one from EDR, if not, fly without it. There is a small LED mounted on the EDR that will also light when the plug is powered. Use that to set up the EDR to light the plug at 1/3-1/2 throttle

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Yes, that's right, not likely to reappear. That's too bad, the plane was the best ARF I have ever made, it was state of the art and still is better than many of the so called premium ARFs out today. I was lucky enough to get one of the originals back in 2004, and I used a OS 160 twin for power. (see some of my earlier posts on this thread for pics) Not only was the design and parts top notch, the instruction book was outstanding as well (and in real english). I am rebuilding mine after an unfortunate nose plant, and I will re-maiden in the next few weeks. I still have to make a new windshield, I am making a plaster mold from the old piece to try to vacuum form the replacement. After so many ARFs, I got to do some real old time balsa butchering to rebuild everything from the wing forward. The OS twin is a perfect match for that airplane, and the sound fits it to a tee. I don't go for the chain saw engine sound, even though glow is $12 more per gallon than gasoline.

RE: Hanger 9 Toledo Special 40
I have been flying my TS with an older Enya 60 four stroke. The engine is a bit longer and larger than the newer 4 strokes. I did not want to butcher the cowl to fit the engine sideways as suggested, so I mounted it upside down and was able to fit it all inside the cowl, with the cylinder out the bottom where it is less noticeable. and I did not have to cut the cowl for the muffler. I was a little wary about the upside down engine so I installed a glo driver. I also had to mount the engine/cowl about 1/2 inch further from the firewall due to the length of the engine. Even with the weight of the glo driver and heavy engine, it flies very well at half throttle. I need about 1 oz of tail weight to balance. Great airplane!

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Thier Super Cub landing gear and strut design in the pictures looks a lot like the Aeronca Champ that they released this year. What a piece of junk. The wing struts and LG design is so fragile it will not survive the first landing, just barely survive the assembly. Beautiful airplane, flies great, but dont land it or carry it from the car

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
w8ye I agree with your observation. I used to have a Sig 1/4 scale with a OS 120 and it was great. I also had a Dave Patrick SuperCub with a OS 160 twin and it was fabulous. That is why I had a little uncertainty about the DLE, which I thought was a 90 glow size equivalent. I was going by the old rule of thumb that a gas engine was about 3/4 the power of a glow engine of equivalent displacement. I guess that if it can swing a 17-6 prop at 8000+ its plenty for me

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Cannonball200 I am glad you posted the Cub picture. I bought the DLE 20 based on advice I got in this thread, specifically for that airplane. I was uncertain if a DLE 30 would be a better choice, Now I see at least it fits inside the cowl without big cutouts like the Zenoah 20 needs for the carb and muffler. The big question is how well it performs...keep us posted Thanks

RE: RCAero JC Engines & YDA Engines
I agree with s3nfo Why are we waiting for Henry to invent another engine to be manufactured by China and then go through all of the debug and development pains? And then another series of quality failures after they achieve success, as the Chinese exercise their business plans and screw their distributors, a process so aptly described by our Australian friends? And how do we differentiate the JC offerings in their ads from Henry's designs? The only reason that I can see is to support a guy who has always been upfront and supportive of his customers, in spite of the bad deals he has been through. Me thinks he may crash and burn again with the odds and situation that he is up against. I have my eye on a Syssa made here in the USA. It will go in my recently acquired AW Cessna 195. Good luck Henry, I still respect your goals and integrity, but I do not see light at the end of your tunnel.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser!
A1pc fixer: I had a 1/4 scale cub with a enya 120, not the R version, and it flew ok, but be careful, with not a lot extra power available . I then used a OS 160 Twin and it had far more authority, perfect flyer for its type. The OS turned a 18-6 Mejik at 7400-7600 RPM, flew at half throttle. New to gas, just wondering where the DLE 20 would fit power wise

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser!
I have a Hanger 9 1/4 scale cub and I have been eyeing this engine and thread for awhile. I am not sure what would be the best engine choice for this airplane....the DLE 30 or DLE20. H9 recommends a G20 but that engine requires a big cut in the cowl with the side card and exhaust. Looks like the DLEs would be great in that respect. So..DLE 20 enough power? Should be equal to a G20. DLE 30 too big? Dont want to cut the cowl more than necessary. A lot of posters seem to be using these engines for 3D applications, I am looking for the scale application. Anybody have similar installations? Thanks

RE: NEW SYSSA 30CC GASSER MADE IN THE USA
That engine seems awfully big for the 120 size Spacewalker. I plan to put mine in a 1/3 scale Spacewalker. I maybe too small for that size, We will see. At least I will not be worried about hovering like so many other users in this thread. Great engine!

HELP!!!! I love the Stuka, Mustang, and of course the Spitfire. Which one would be the easiest to fly? I am more used to the WW1 slower warbirds. I would use a Syssa 30 or DLE 30, whichever fits best without big cowl holes.

RE: Aerovate Engines
Aussiesteve Any chance that your new engines will feature a rear exhaust like the Zenoah G38 as well as a rear carb (both features are on the new Syssa 30) This would make it ideal for use on narrow scale cowls without unsightly holes. Here"s hoping Ric

RE: 26cc ESM WARBIRDS READY TO SHIP!!!
Tomas Thank you for your quick reply. I saw the Camo treatment in the green Ju87 B and D models, I was interested in the winter camo version. The picture on your web site says that the depiction shown it is not the final production version. I searched around the internet for info on what the winter camo paint should look like and I found a wide variety of how it was done. One of the descriptions of how it was done in the field was to paint blotches of white wash paint on the green base color. Other pictures show a far more white finished area on a green base background. The picture on your web site sort of looks like the splotch version. except that the splotches appear to be on top of the desert tan base color. Love that airplane, just trying to decide on which one to order Thanks Ric

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Steven Chao Thanks for your continued effort to bring this great plane back. I still have mine with an OS 160 twin and fly it regularly. It still is the best ARF I have ever built. I hope the reissue is is good as the original, and I hope the new one has parts that can be used on the original kit. For information, sadly I report that the originatior of this thread , Bud Faulkner, passed away last year. Look at some of the pictures of his work earlier in this thread, and you will see the hobby has lost a great craftsman
