RE: Great Planes Reactor GP/EP 3D ARF .46-.70
ORIGINAL: malcolmm
ORIGINAL: JustErik
ORIGINAL: fayrwerks Would mounting 2stroke .46 inverted work with the reactor?
I don't see any reason why not. It would put the muffler hanging out the left side of the cowl unless you use a pitts muffler, but I'm sure you already realized that. :)
I guess you could mount it inverted, but I'm not sure why

tips for going vertical
any suggestions on how to be better on going vertical? sometimes i can climb straightup or do a nice loop but most of the time its not perpendicular to the ground or not a perfect 90 deg up. Should the climb be done before, infront or after the plane passed infront of you headwind or downwind? will visual aid like adding some sort of neon stickers on the wingtips help? Thanks...

RE: Nexstar...Air Brakes yes or no?
i learned to fly the nexstar with instructor and those training aids (droops and speedbrakes). so far no crash except for some bad/bouncy landings. Honestly i thought i was good enough with my time on the sim but glad that someone helped me to find an instructor. instructor always tends to correct your bad habits and learning is more possitive. there are some things that you wont learn from the sim. and crashing a trainer sometimes means goodbye to the hobby. i've encounter several guys who crashed and never returned to the flying field. the nexstar is really slow with the droops and flaps. flying first with them improves your confidence and feel until your confident without them. just try them for 2 flights and remove them afterall they are included with thekit and wont hurt your learning curve and appreciate the nexstar more.

RE: Great Planes Reactor GP/EP 3D ARF .46-.70
ORIGINAL: cmala3 Well, I got mine in the air for the first time yesterday. I put an OS 46FX on it and it flys very well. It is very smooth and predictable. However, it is not 3D capable with this engine. Now I do have standard size servos in the tail (3) and I had to put a weighted prop nut on the front to balance it so it may weigh a little more than it should but I have not weighed it. Craig
craig, could you please post a pict of the reactor with OS 46... im planning to use the 46AX. thanks

RE: Great Planes Reactor GP/EP 3D ARF .46-.70
can the reactor be a good pattern airplane or second plane (on low rates). im planning to get the venus 46 as second plane but if the reactor will fly smoother on low rate then its reactor for me.

RE: nexstar speedbrakes removal
i removed the speedbrakes on my nexstar and took it for a test flight. it had a lot of tendency to nose down. I had to thank the guy who PMed me about the proper setting which is to level the elevator with the top of the horizontal stab. It's a new plane now Faster and bit agile, i need to re-learn landings and be more cautious with dives. however will still won't roll as fast as what i hoped for but i'm happy with it and gave me more things to learn. THANKS AGAIN for all the replies and PMs!!!!!

RE: Engine run question
im a newbie with a nexstar with OS 46AX, from my experience i think it wont harm anything... i had rusting problem on my 46AX after 2 weeks of storage without after run, expensive way to learn a lesson but atleast i can disassemble and assemble my engine now. i'm using mobil 1 synthetic 10-40 motor oil as after-run and no rust problem so far. im maybe putting a lot (@ .8ml on the carb and .8ml on the glowplug hole) but its cheaper to replace the plug rather than replacing the bearings

i've been flying the nexstar without the droops for few weekends. would removing the speedbrakes eliminate the climb on throttle habit of the nexstar? would the landing be hot without the speedbrakes? thanks

RE: bearings of OS .46 AX
Thanks guys, unfortunately im in middle east and i only have access the these commercial bearings. sports or hobby specific would cost me arm and leg to ship here. I guess C3 code is rated for hi speed but i could not get the C3 specs but if the mentioned metal shielded would work i dont mind replacing them one in a while cos they're cheap and easily obtainable.

bearings of OS .46 AX

Can i use the 6902ZZ by simply removing the metal shields, same thing with the small one remove one of the shields for the R6Z? thanks

RE: os 46ax whinning noise
Hi Cambo, im really not sure if it is castor oil or rust but the whinning sound i guess is an indication of bad bearing. im using byron fuel.

RE: os 46ax whinning noise
i only fly once a week and this engine is only on its 3/4 gallon of byron fuel. I pulled the back plate out and found some rust spots on the crankshaft and the rear bearing... looks like Im in deep ---- here. expensive way for a newbie to learn a lesson. I'm not sure if i can still flush the rust with something or I need to replace the bearings. Is there any other bearing available like SKF's other better brand than the original OS which i believe sells for 39.99 and 12 for the rear and front.
