The field will be open Friday at 11:00. The Microtel in Gardendale is the closest place to the field. There is also a Best Western in Gardendale - It is NOT recommended!!

RE: Beginner Needs Help Choosing a Radio
If you are so new to flying that you need some help, get a radio that will buddy cord to other radios at your field. I use Airtronics, but I have a Futaba to help a newby with because no one else has Airtronics. The field also has a JR in the shed that was donated with a cord.

Mess is cleaned up by rules enforcement. Someone has to READ and UNDERSTAND the rules, then physically get up and do the checking.

Go - NoGo gauges take all the math and measuring out of the process. It either IS or it AIN'T and go to the next one. Quick and simple.

Club .46!!! Let's see, I think the Magnum 52 parts will go in the Magnum .46 case. Not sure about the Evolution engines but I'll check. And what about the O.S. 55AX? Changing engines is not the answer.

Don't forget that some engines just run better than others. Thats fine with me as long as the engines are the same displacement.

We have all laid out our concerns and remedies, let us just let the organizers put it to pencil and go by their wisdom. A happy medium can be found for us to race a simple series and expand on it. KISS principle works GREAT!

RE: Club 40 Rules Enforcement
Pre-Race inspection won't work. I can change an engine out in the early practice chaos and no one will notice. Post race the the top four planes, and maybe 1 other plane from random. If you know you get inspected for winning you are less likely to go against the rules. The check with go-no go gauges is indisputable. You are not going to get hit by a cheater because they have left you far behind!

RE: Club 40 Rules Enforcement
I don't think cheated up engines is a major problem. As a general rule, there is usually 1 or maybe 2 at any given time that push the envelope. Check the bore, check the carburetor, watch over fueling, have fun! If someone wants to port & polish let 'em do it. It usually results in no advantage unless they bore the carburetor out. If everyone has the same "air hole" then there is no improvement in performance (think restrictor plate). Putting .46 parts in a .40 crankcase is a different story. Thats why the bore of the cylinder should be checked. And, you do not have to check everything, all the time. Just knowing you might be inspected is a good deterrent to cheating. Just watch over fueling like a hawk!

I don't want to buy an illegal engine. I have seen it happen in auto racing with claimer rules.

RE: Club 40 Rules Enforcement
With a little tinkering I think I can beat that test. Pull the heads on the top 4 planes after the contest and go-no go the bore and check carburetor diameter. If a cheater is found, he goes home in shame. In order to return, he must pay $100 entry fee to the next race AND must be torn down before and after the next 2 races regardless of finish.

RE: Club 40 Rules Enforcement
The TT parts list shows different #'s for the crankshaft. The rod for the .40 & .46 is the same #. It looks like a crank, cyl. & piston, wrist pin, head and head gasket is all you would need to convert a .40 to a .46. Or, buy a Pro .46 and a ANO343 crankcase and your in business. Or, buy someones worn out Pro .40 for $10 and put the Pro.46 parts in it. All stamped and "legal"!

RE: Club 40 Rules Enforcement
In most peoples minds, it's not cheating until you get caught! It is up to "the officials" to try and keep everything fair and square. In car racing, I never saw anyone object to inspection. They only got bent out of shape when they got caught. Then the excuses started to flow followed by I did not know what I was talking about!!! Funny thing, whatever it was got fixed by the next race!!

RE: Club 40 Rules Enforcement
Sadly, in ANY form of competition, there must be rules AND enforcement. Doped baseball players, traction control devices hidden inside tachometers, an extra Ace up the sleeve... somebody is gonna cheat! Check the bore, check the carb, fuel up in an impounded area. That is about as simple as it gets.

RE: Club 40 Rules Enforcement
I have used "Go - No Go" gauges to check carburetors on race cars where modification was not allowed. If the gauge goes into the hole being measured, it is not legal. The beauty part is there are no numbers to read and nothing to look up. And everyone can see what is happening. Someone with a lathe and some aluminum round bar stock could easily make a bore gauge for the popular engines in the class. Remove the head, place the gauge in the cylinder and there it is! Also, if I remember correctly, a 17/64ths drill bit is a good gauge for the TT 40 carb barrel.

I like that just fine! Great work. Can you add a 4th plane? Not necessary, I'm being picky! Maybe a black/white one in the rear? Or cutting the pylon?

That would be the same big guy that Calamusa hit head on - Randy Bosworth. Bos still speaks to both, but I wouldn't take him out again [:D] Yes, he is fast and loves pylon racing!

Our "King of the Hill" combat will be in September or early October. Alex Treneff, who makes and sell the "BattleAxe", will have an RCCA sanctioned event in June or July I think. That would be in Jackson, TN. I would like to have one just for fun this spring or summer.

RE: 2011 C40 race schedule for N. Alabama
The new Magnums will scream just fine on 10% fuel. 8 x3 MA props only...get a bag of them! Building to minimum # is no problem. The ones that fly best are "overweight". No Kidding!!! I have been using Hitec HS-82MG servos. The full size HS-322HD works just as well and will add an ounce...and cheaper! Plastic gear servos will not take a lick!!! 3 ounces of fuel is plenty. I use Tetra or Jett bladder tanks-no sag or foaming start to finish. The Jett is round and fits securely between the aluminum rails.

Hard to take out the competition because most guys have more than 1 plane ready to go. Nothing can go on the leading edge or protrude from it. "Sticky stuff" of your choice is legal on the leading edge.
