RE: Anyone Tried The New Evolution .60NX?
Received mine a couple of weeks back. It has very tight pinch even without a glow plug. It looks a winner, though as always the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I have not fired it up yet.

RE: Irvine 20
No worries mate, I am getting on as well and it just seems to happen when there is a lot going on in your life. Maybe you can post an update on the plugs in the gl*w forum? I use a Taipan green plug in an old ASP 46 with a dodgy carb (rich mid range) and it runs beautifully. They are not just for loop scavenged engines. I have had less success with the yellows. Now, back on subject [;)] I just checked both my Irvine .20D's. The first one I bought when the engine was first released, it was badly damaged in a radio failure induced crash; but a (now departed) friend ali-welded the cracked exhaust stack and carby intake boss for me and it was rebuilt to running status. The other, I bought off eejit-bay NIB. Both have "20" enbossed on the exterior of the intake boost port. Irvines hold a fascination for me. I love the design and build. Never had a contra piston problem. The only known issue with the diesels is the compression adjuster tensioner grub screw. It is very short, and tends to back out under heat and vibration when the engine is run. I dribbled a little screw lock into the thread and that stopped the problem. Davis heads don't seem to suffer this problem?

RE: Irvine 20
Kia Ora Chris [:D] I believe you are correct, but I am no expert. Dave (Hobbsy) should know, as I sent him a spare head without the grub screw or friction pad. I just checked my unrun .20D I acquired from a seller on eejit bay. The head is missing its friction pad [:@] From memory it is just a 1/8' length of brass rod.

Propane torch for 2 ~ 3 seconds round the circumference of the head. Using welders gloves, seperate the peices.

RE: David Gierke on Fuel
I remember nitro-benzene. I used it at 10% in my first ever glow engine in the early '70's. I really stank. It had an oily greasy feel. I now know just how dangerous it was.

RE: What Engine for a TWM Tucano 60?
An RCV 130 may be a good fit due to it's short stature but on a price basis and known performance the ASP/SC/Magnum .91 from HobbyKing is hard to beat. I had a new ASP .91 in my hand a week ago, the finish and fits are very close to the OS .91 Surpass. For price reasons I would have one over the OS without hesitation. However ... if money were no object ... the OS 110 Alpha, for it's sheer quality, and beauty. Saito 115 .... sure, but I like the looks of the OS better. Just my .02

RE: All new JR 11X
Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery? I was thinking that the 9x and 12x were starting to look a little "old hat". This latest offering looks different; and attractive in a "transformer toy" kind of way. In fact, it looks a little like my friends Yammy R6 [:)] The JR Fanboyz will love it (if they don't, they're too old). Can't wait to read the specs - and the RRP.

RE: os engines
A Magnum /SC/ASP Ser III .46 piston and liner (made by Sanye) may drop right in as a repair (and upgrade). Cheaper than buying a whole new engine. I did it with my .46 FX. I am unsure if they are the same in the AX though.

RE: Is it a phenomenon of these little 2-strokes that until well broken in, they will not turn a larger
If you wish to spin large props on a small displacement 2 stroke, then a long stroke diesel (compression-ignition) engine is your best bet. It's a pity they are now almost extinct. The .15 size offerings from MVVS and ENYA (.15D) could suit.

I have just ordered a Schlosser from David Owen. When queried, David said there was no truth to the rumour. He said Herr Benno Schlosser intends making his engines for as long as he can. Although, that said, one day time will be up for all of us.

RE: Diesel Fuel Powered?
Just 5 minutes from my workplace Ray ..[:D]. The staff are quite familiar with me (I live in a small town). And, like most things at Super Cheap Auto, it will be at a good price. I'll stock up on some. Thanks for the tip. I have some reagent grade ether ... and good castor .... so I am right to make a new batch of fuel I'd say. I also have access to JetA1, but ... if there is no practical benefit to using it ... I'll stick to good old regular SCA kero. The Team Race boys tend to know the know [8D] when it comes to getting the most from their engines.

RE: Diesel Fuel Powered?
Are lamp oil and kerosene the same, apart from the colour of the dye, and the scent added to lamp oil? I have been thinking of trying it in my diesel fuel, but do not want to waste my time as it is more expensive, especially if it does not perform as well as kerosene.

Why no .40, .45 and .49 sized glow engines though? I have an early (green head) .49 and it is my favourite glow engine. I get many favourable comments at the field after flyers see it in action.

RE: Club Laser?
Hi Artto! I acquired the Extra from a friend. It was originally powered by a Moki 180 (30cc) two stroke. I have never weighed the aircraft but believe it be around 7 kilos. Putting the LASER 300V in cured a tail heavy problem [;)] It does not "3D" but the engine pulls it through traditional aerobatic manouevers with authority. The tank is 900 cc capacity. Before I had the engine properly tuned, I ran it rich and as such it was thirsty. Now, I rarely use more than half a tank for a 10 ~ 12 minute flight with varying throttle settings. It is extemely reliable (as all LASER'S are) and quite unique. It never fails to draw onlookers wondering what it is that powers the aircraft. I am at present refurbishing bearings and reassembling, with the help of a friend who is a retired mechanic and very knowledgable. He was most impressed with the engineering, and declared it a very, very nice engine indeed. I make my own fuel. I run Motul Micro 15% and castor 2% (17% total) as the lube package. On dissassembly the engine was found to be clean and virtually free of deposits. Rocker covers were completely full of clean oil. No corrosion or discernable wear. I do not use nitro. The prop is not large ... I believe it is 20 x 6 or 22 x 6 but I would have to check. I will be inspecting and cleaning the airframe shortly and will fix the prop numbers posted here. *** EDIT 18/09/09 ... Prop is a wood "hawk" 20 x 8 *** I hope this is of some interest. A LASER twin is not cheap and is an aspirational purchase for many; but also an engine to savour and use with pride. I consider myself fortunate to have one.

EDL has been around a while and has an excellent reputation, but is rather hard to find in the US and in my neck of the woods (Australia). If you have used Fuchs Aerosave and Motul Micro, how does it compare?

Hey CostomPC If you get stuck, let me know, I have a mate with a few Hitec retract servo's and I could test one for you. My dual ball raced JR analogue servo's (539's?) work fine with my 10 ch Rx, which was a relief. One is now on throttle duty. *** EDIT 17/09/09 *** Checked ... a Hitec 75BB retract servo works fine with the 10 ch Rx [8D]
