RE: HE-162 Group Build
Thanks for reply. As far as weight distribution the batteries I have are quite heavy almost 1400 grams so surely getting those up front around canopy wouldnt require adding lead. But that big motor is also heavy and being up top wasnt sure how big of an issue may become as far as stability. I cant help but wonder if building the C varient with anhedral gull wings would help durring flight. (or possibly make it worse) I like the He-162 and seems like a fairly easy build no real complex shapes and motor not contained within fuse so placement of components woundnt be hard to figure out. Construction would probably be carved dow foam then glassed with carbon fiber reinforced in key areas.

RE: HE-162 Group Build
Hey, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I considering scratch building a He-163 specifically the C varient. But I was worried about selecting the He-162 because Ive read alot about how they have bad flight characteristics. Obviously landing could be difficult but im will to fudge some scaleism to make the retracts come out at more of an angle to vave a tad wider stance. The part I was concerned with is reports of the weight of the EDF and motor being up high top heavy causing unwanted roll and sudden pitch change with throttle. I was thinking of doing He-162C, the one with swept-back, anhedraled gull-wing and v-tail Setup would be as follows: 120mm EDF unit with turnigy sk3 850kv motor, (motor is a beast 40mm x 92mm) 120 amp HV ESC and two 6s 4000mah lipos ran in series for 12s

RE: Thunder Tiger 130 Four Stroke
Only thing is I bet it guzzles the glow fuel. Do you think it would be overkill for Top Flite Sea Fury the manual calls for .90 if 4 stroke. I was origanaly worried the 130 would be to heavy but specs say it only ways 30 oz. The manual says to add 8.5 oz for correct C.G. if running and OS .61 2 stroke so maybe 30oz would be about right.

Ive been debating on spring airs or the robart 606 series my self but I cant find any info on spring airs website. this may be a dumb question because there name is spring air but do the 116 or the 700 series you mentioned use air up air down operation? Id like to have something I can set rate to slow and scale movement. I thought 700 series was for giant scale

RE: Retract setup
Hey guys Im about to begin work on a Top Flite Sea Fury and had some concerns about retracts. I was going to go with the easy route and get the century jet 3/8 system comes with everything made for the sea fury but after reading around and seeing so many people bash on ho CJ is crap and brakes easy im kinda scared to go that route. Now Im looking into the Robart 510 series with 7/16 robostruts (if that would work?) but I like for the speed of up and down motion to be controled because i love scale looks witch is why I was concerned because the 510 retracts are sprind down. I could see how the the speed could be controled up because there air up but wasnt sure about down because spring? Either choice I made would be from Tower because as a member you seem to get some awsome deals through them. Any help would be great, thanks

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build
This has been an awsome build thread but I was wondering if you scaled the plans for a larger plane. The Kellog Avenger is a 1/6 scale isnt it? A 1/6 scale I tought the cowl would have a width around 9 inhes. So dosent that radial engine have a 10 inch.diameter. But the engine fits perfectly so I was wondering if you scaled it up a bit or if I was doing something wrong here. I gave thought to scratch building a 1/5 scale TBM Avenger and am measureing off a 1/48 scale model to get all my demensions and just using a scale facter of 130" 1/5 wing span / 13.54" 1/48 wingspan. At 1/6 scale with a wingspan of 108" / 13.54" I get a scale facter of 7.97 and measure on the model the width of the cowl on about mid ways down at 1.2" x 7.97 = 9.5" I was just a little confused om how yours fit so well. reason I was so concerned is because I was thinking of making a tbm avenger as well and trying to figure up some engine options.

RE: 250cc Briggs & Stratton for large scale planes?
Yea Ive seen even with the tools to make a large majority of it yourself still run into alot. I could only imagine having to buy everything such as airframe and retracts. retractable mains alone get around a grand for the big planes. But yea I wouldnt need anything for aerobatics. Not good enough at flying for all that. I get brave with my lil parkzones and start to all kinds of crazy aerobatics and end up dowing a nose plant usualy do to disoriented on witch way the plane is going.

Do you think the DLE would be powerfull enough to power a plane of that size? Seems almost empossible to find an engine strong enough to spin a scale prop and still fit withen the cowl

RE: 250cc Briggs & Stratton for large scale planes?
I just looked through the entire thing, was a good build thread. I would love to start a giant scale warbird build somethime just gotta finish my 8th scale Hellcat one of these days first lol. One reason I like the Avenger so much is because I like planes you can put alot of extra detail into, like cockpit, turret, belly gunner, the bomb bay doors. I like how that guy put that scale door hatch on the right side of the plane. I think it would be cool to do that but somehow make it look scale in there as well. But who know if I decided on the avenger probably be alot better to make it 1/5th scale because there such huge plane. It would still be big at 130" w/s and around 98" length

Especialy with the turret, opening bomb bay doors, dropping scale torpedo or bombs, operational cowl flaps and all the other goodies. Oh yea thanks for posting all that info, you must know your airplane stuff to calculate all that. I knew what size it would, the same demensions that you post are what I drew up. But not all the weight and stuff. thanks

RE: 250cc Briggs & Stratton for large scale planes?
Thanks Yea it would defenatley be expensive and would take me forever to cut all the ribs, formers, and get it sheeted, but I was thinking this guys construction method would work. ( http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=3433366 ) , not shure how well it would do for gass though and would take a lot of beefing up in key areas. if it would work it would defanately cut down cost. I was manley just cuious to know had anyone tried putting a beefed up ohc engine in a rc plane trying to save a few bucks. but there more i think and read what peeps are saying, it just seems impractical. As far as retracts go I know a freind whoes a good machinest. He done me a set of retracts for a smaller plane free. I just gave him the aluminum. But yea it be a wopping plane because as far as I know they are the biggest single engine plane ever built and dwarf other single engine planes. But you gotta admit she would look awsome in quarter scale!!!

RE: 250cc Briggs & Stratton for large scale planes?
Seems like after you took off all that extra you wouldnt need it would lighten it up quite a bit, I mean Im sure it would still be a bit on the heavy side. As far as power gos somehow those mower racing boys get lots of power out of them. I know you could get more just playing with govenor and maybe exaust. But you guys are right about vibration, after watcing that vid that Gkamysz post looked like it was gonna shake apart. Defanatley have to come up with some type of good rubber mounted system. But not sure if rubber mounts allowing engine to shake around there for prop shaking around would disturbe flight.

250cc Briggs & Stratton for large scale planes?
Ok this may be dumb but I was wondering. If someone was to build a 1/4 scale plane such as I would love to build a 1/4 scale tbm avenger (wouldnt happen any time soon =( $$$) . Engines to power such a plane are very expensive, cheapest Ive seen so far is the DLE 222cc for around $1700 to 1800!!! and other brands more. I was wonder what others thought of using this engine. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200355693_200355693 Has anyones tried somthing like this? I know it has a shipping weight of 40lbs wittch would obviously be way to heavy. But take off all the stuff you wouldnt need such as the heavy cast iron flywheel, clutch, magnito, fuel tank and all that plastic shouds and Im sure theres more. Modify it with better exaust, electronic ignition, and take out the govenor (or at least turn up the rps or somthing) Seems that this could work and be a heck of alot less expensive. I know this stile of motor dosent rev much rpms but with a 36x20 prop I woudnt think you would need but about 3000 to 4000 rpm. Just a thought

what pipe setup is that if you dont mind me asking? I am currently working on avenger pro as well. I like the way you pipe is setup. Ive noticed the alot of people use the header that wraps upwards then back down the side to avoid the pipes sicking out but seems that all the extra header would loose perforamnce.

RE: aeromarine conquest
Hey guys Im about to start with my first gas boat and was needing some help. Im thinking of the Aquacraft 51z because of its RTR price is only 750 shipped, but I really like the looks of the cats alot beter. I wont be doing any racing and need somthing with good rough water characteristics because the lakes and rivers I would be running in are kinda rough and a lot of my running will be done along side a real boat in a pretty rough lake. Anyways Ive got my eyes on either the Aeromarine Conquest or the Avenger Pro, just a stock zenoah "for now" What would you guys think of the conquest or avenger with the Bonzi CZ Out sytem as far as hardware goes. I dont know much about all this but I like the look of the inline system. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.
