RE: Top Flite Wire Wheel Repair (tire off rim)
mkoe and dignlivn, I think you so very much for your help and tips on how to get that darn small (solid) back onto the original rim. I found both helpful and actually employed both! I did heat the tire in some how water, but only for about 30-45 secs. so as not to be too mushy. Then, used the tire wraps at the instructed points, and using gloves, and another set of two hands (read wife [:)]) to put tie-wraps on, at 6, 3, 9 , and I then moved to my left, then moved to my right (hey, I think I heard a song like that)... and popped it over the top (12 o'clock).... Went perfectly! I HAD to use gloves, not for the hot tire, but the rim is tough on the thumbs and fingers! (No, I not a wimp, lol). Thing is.... dignlivn..... you are the person I got the idea for these wire-wheels for my GP Big Stik 40 ! I never go to the field w/o someone commenting how great they look! Lots to owe you and you guys really helped me out! Again, thank you both... Don [:D]

RE: Repair of Top Flite Wire Wheel
Hi k12rc, Thank you so much for your quick response. It is greatly appreciated. I somewhat understand the concept, but when you mention a "peg" and when I look at the BVM "Tire Changing Tools" as seen here: http://shopbvmjets.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=45_74&zenid=jdhkts3f2otgkqnrhcna6et2t7 and here: http://shopbvmjets.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=45_74&products_id=491&zenid=jdhkts3f2otgkqnrhcna6et2t7 and see the "cone" tool, I am not sure how to make a peg that would replicate the cone (if needed), but I can certainly make the "pusher tool" as shown on the BVM site. Again, I thank you for your quick response and help. Please excuse my ignorance on this matter... first time I have ever had to do this in 30 years! [:o] Don

hershey, Once again, thank you. Interesting about manual.. mine (right in front of me) must be older since it does not describe the motor size on any page (incl specs)?? Anyway, I also wrote to Hobbico and they did not have any info on size etc., even though they have been asked this question numerous times (according to the support rep who replied)??? I really appreciate your help and that should get me back in the air again, as you state. I will report back after purchases and install. Thank you. Don

RE: Official Hobby Zone
Thanks for the info on my St Fox power system problem... I truly appreciate it! I took the motor an ESC out of the fuse and tried a few tests, more specifically: 1). Yes, With the motor removed, I hooked it up to my 11.1v battery (BLK) & (RED) only, and it basically does same thing... twitches w/o any spin/revolutions. 2). With motor out, I believe I should be able to put an ohm meter (multimeter in my case) and test ohms/resistance of lead to lead to lead (all possible combinations) and I should expect to see same (or roughly the same) numbers on the meter... FAIL... I see no numbers on one (Yellow) and 0.000 on the other two. Am I correct? 3). I shorted all three connectors on the motor together in various options while manually turning the shaft... in which I should expect a resistance when any two or all three are shorted. TRUE on two connectors, (Yellow) w/ either (BLK) or (RED) I get resistance, none with Black to red. ??? 4). When using my meter in diode mode for checking for a short, I can connect ANY of the three wires and it shows a short to the motor mount (connected to the shaft from factory).NOT the case, however? That's everything I know in how to check a motor (and I got that info in RCGroups too) So, it sounds as though I need a new motor, which is also a problem as I CANNOT find info on the motor specs... AT ALL! $#$#&%# !!!! Do you agree on my determination that it is the motor? ESC looks fine, no signs of any heat related damage. BTW< I CANNOT determine size of ESC either!!!! Arggggg!!!! Any and all help is greatly appreciated ( I can post pics if you wish) Thanks so much, my friend... I do appreciate your help, knowledge and patience! Don

eghershey, Thanks so much! I will try my best to wring out those wires... if I do determine it to be the motor, the spec sheet/ instructions do not have any description of the size motor, etc... being a newbie at electrics, can I get the size off the motor itself, I mean are they typically stamped onto casing? Otherwise how would I determine? The info on this plane is in "chinglish" so very sparse and vague. Thanks again, I really appreciate it, Don

Frankly, I believe my RC Crew Chief setup (esp. elevevator or CG) was way off. Although the crash did not do a whole lot of damage too Link this word and every other one like it in our forum to YOUR Website! fuse, etc., the motor mount was cracked in which I proceeded to make a new one (I have all dimensions if someone would like/need). Put motor back in, and tried to run without success. Basically the motor, when applying throttle, just wiggles back and forth a bit and stops. Bring throttle to off, then reapply throttle, does the same quivering of the prop w/ no real revolutions on the prop/motor. I tried to check if the best esc provider in LA ESC brake was on, but to do that, I need to "hear" one or two beeps after power/battery connected, which I do not... nothing.. no beeps whatsoever. Just the twitching of the prop. Without the beeps, I cannot tell if brake is on, so I followed procedure for turning the ESC brake OFF and ON, and off and on.. etc. Same result. What do you suppose is the problem? The ESC gone? The motor broken? I have no idea, as this is my first electric powered aircraft. Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I do not want to replace parts just at random w/o knowing what specifically should be replaced and why. Should I send my 10C to Futaba for checkup & updates?
I read (somewhere) that it is important, especially duirng the winter months, to send my Futaba 10C radio to Futaba Service for a general check-up and possible software/firmware updates. Is this something that is still viewed as important, when my 10C does not have any issues or performance problems. It is one of the original 10C models that came with both the (regular) extractable (72Mhz) antenna, as well as the .24Ghz antenna. Is this worth the time and money, and what is it exactly that Futaba will do to make the process worth it? I want to keep the radio up-to-date and checked out for any possible issues but also do not want to do this just for the sake of doing it.. Is there a document that provides the instructions, process, and procedures that will be performed so as I can know how to properly do, as well as the tasks that Futaba will perform? Thank you so much for your time and help. Regards, Don

W8ye, So on the 15% Aero Coolpower, would adding the 2 or 3 ozs. be sufficient for break-in, in your experience/opinion, or should I add more? I also plan on ALWAYS adding the 2 or 3 ozs. for the FA-100 Saito, you agree? Thank you so much. You are always one who we can all depend on for accurate, timely information and help. Don

I heard from a LHS that if I were to break-in my Saito on 15%, then switched to 30% nitro, I could not go back to the 15% (or anything lower than the 30% nitro). Any truth to the statement? I was planning on a break-in w/ Coolpower 15% (17% syn) w/ an added 2 or 3 ozs. of Klotz castor added. Then I was planning to go to Powermaster 30% heli, as I already own (2 gallaons) of it (and wanted to see the benefit, if any. But right now I cannot get the Powermaster as they have not yet restared distribution to Northeast (as far as I can tell). Thanks in advance. Don

Hi All ! I am going to be mounting my new FA-100 BK (Father's Day Gift [:)]) on my new GP Big Stik 60 Arf (presently am recoating with different color scheme) and want some advice as to the firewall & engine mount and fuel tank. 1. Should I reinforce the firewall more than it already is ( 3/8" tri-stock around all internal sides) ? Re-epoxy? Leave alone? 2. I read a lot about 4-stroke vibration and people installing engine mounts that dissipate the vibrations with various methods. Should I do so? Are there any measures that I can take w/ the GP OEM mount that can improve the handling of the vibrations, if necessary? If not, what do you suggest for a new mount, I believe there are some off-the-shelf "soft" mounts, but know nothing about them and their effectiveness, usage, installation, etc.? 3. The GP Big Stik 60 comes with a 420cc (~14oz.) fuel tank. Do you think that it is sufficient to handle a 10-12 minute flight? If not, what size would you suggest? (I was thinking about a Sullivan "Flex" tank if I upgrade). Many thanks in advance! Don

RE: How satisfied are YOU with your New Futaba 10C Tx??
Well looky what I found... This may be a start to what we/I was looking for in a website/forum that would help Futaba users of various levels in setting up, programming and general discussion of all that is Futaba. I hope this helps everyone/anyone looking for help.. if only it was listed at a top-level sub-category on RCU and RCGroups, it probably would be found more readily. FYI, I received a Tower Hobbies Newsletter (Special Email Offers), in which this link was provided. If it was only distributed to those who are subscribers to the $9.99 membership to TH, as I am, shame on them, but here you have it. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Futaba/95574905265 Hope it helps, Don

victorzamora, I tend to agree, on all accounts. I just thought if it would help, I could do it w/o much fuss or trouble. As you state, however, how does one get the traffic from the experienced users to visit and respond to the questions/problems. I would like if RCU or RCGroups or better yet, Futaba and Jr, and Airtronics, to pick up the slack and offer a forum as described, WITH the people who are in the know available for help and/or comment. Does not seem like a big stretch for any of them to provide such a simple solution/online community for their respective users/customers. (Yes, I do know that Futaba has an online presence here on RCU, etc. but it is not the same as I describe above... besdies, it seems there are an awful lot of users/customers that ask these same questions... hence ... a need unfulfilled.

Sent in my servo for repair to same place. Futaba told me it was toast (corrosion) and if I did not want to replace w/ a new one (S3152 digital) for $35.99 plus $9.99 shipping, I would have to pay almost $20.00 bucks for the "services" and another $9.99 to ship the bad servo back to me (although i could have had them chuck for free).... obviously. took the new servo for the 45 bucks instead of nothing in return for 20 bucks. What a rip-off.

RE: How satisfied are YOU with your New Futaba 10C Tx??
Very glad to hear that you got that problem w/ programing solved. I too, have had troubles, but all-in-all, I am very happy w/ the 10C and it's programming abilities. While we have a few people that are watching this post, let me ask this question (again): A while back I asked a bunch or users if they were interested in a forum where you could both ask programming questions specific to a radio, beyond what is found either here or on the Futaba website. I am also curious if I made such a forum site, would having a forum for each specific radio (which is not found either here on RCU or RCGroups) be of help to all? Maybe a forum for programming for a (each) specific radio ONLY would be helpful to all, including myself? If so, I would be happy to open it up, as I enjoy moderating various forums for my workplace, and would not find it all that more difficult to add some for each radio on the market or by request. Your thoughts? Thanks, Don

RE: Problem w/ Futaba S3152 Dig. HI-Torq Servo after crash into the drink
Bax, true, I understand. Man, I am so ticked at myself. I took my eyes off the plane for a moment to look at a timer, and.... well, you know the rest. I probably will be sporting new servos and a new receiver this year and have to put off the electronics on my second plane until next year, as this is the money that was to go for my second plane's electronics. DUMB ! Also, just to be perfectly clear for those who are reading this and may have done something of the same and got their servos wet in some manner.. I did immediately take the servos out of the plane, and set them on a cardboard box and had warm/hot air from a hairdryer blowing across them, turning them over every once and a while, for about 24 hours, before I put them in the plastic baggies. Just an FYI, so that no one uses these fruitless measures in the future on their mishap. I did NOT, however, open the servos up. Oh well.... Thanks again, Don P.S. Other than Bax, (who I understand must be the most conservative on this subject) who would trust the servos after a full cleaning with alcohol or electronics cleaner and maybe a spray or two of Corrosion-X after the cleaning process?? I mean, wyould you really trust them and put them back into a control surface of a plane? If you can convince me that I have a very, very good chance of success, I may try it out.
