RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Michael, I would also like to know what it would cost to convert to metal head parts. And you haven't said what you think of the aluminum heads. Do you have any experience with them? Would they add anything to performance? Obviously, they are stronger. But that could mean more expensive repairs after a crash, like bent/broken shafts, motor mounts, etc. Something has to give on impact. It would show where the next weakest link is.

Thanks, Michael. And Howdy again. I bought my heli from you two years ago and flew it for the first time since January yesterday. I lived up near you in PA and have moved to S Georgia. Now I have year round flying weather. Neener neener. I may try a 1000mA 3S lipo but I'll be holding my breath as I am still running the original motors (with heat sinks).

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
I would like to hear from anyone who has actually used the new aluminum head parts. I am breaking fewer parts these days and am wondering if the metal head would add stability. I still love this little heli. 3 CELL LIPOS? I read a few pages back that some guys are running 3 cell lipos!?! Aren't you burning up tail motors? I would like to try it but am afraid of toasting that little motor or the MOSFETS. I already have the 10A inline fuse on the main motor.

RE: Maximum Safe Power for Slow Flyer Props
Well put GG. My experience with SF props dictates swapping out for an E prop at higher loads simply because you lose any gains in performance due to flexing. I can usually tell when I'm beginning to overload a prop, the sound changes from smooth to a rougher sound. Sometimes you can even see it.

RE: One Tough FFF Delta...Build It!
arsenic, I know this is an old posts but hey, maybe it will help somebody... yes glue it to the top with your choice of adhesive. I prefer Gorilla Glue with 10-20% white glue stirred into it. It foams up nicely and will fill any voids and hold very well, even aluminum or plywood to foam. Sets up in about 15 minutes. Or 5minute epoxy works well. I love the smell. I just glued an aluminum mount to the front of an old wing with the 5minE....not purdy but very functional. It flies great....... HI SEMI!!!!!!

Got a couple pics of the wings. I tossed the Hyperwing out in the meadow. After a bum launch and then a few easy, slow laps I can say she is flying better than ever! I could only go to 1/3 throttle as the meadow gets mighty small. I can't wait to see what it will do on some full speed passes. The meter tells me 225W at full throttle. Ohh, baby. 'Scuse the aesthetic issues. These birds have been in the scrap heap for over a year.

RE: Badius Owners Club III
I vote to move. Only downside I see is the chance of new guys needing a hand up will not find our helpful arses as easily. I like sharing stuff FAR outside the RC airplane realm. That is what has really formed us into a family. Got two wings in the works. Actually I am revamping some old, old wings into flying condition again. Terry, remember the Hyperwing?? Tim, very similar to your Twist². It decided to fold in half one day in the middle of a high speed dive. It is back into one piece again and will soon sport a 3000kv motor boasting 200W. hee hee. I rebuilt the entire center section of the wing with Great Stuff Foam after adding two extra fiberglass rods leftover from a SS build. It shouldn't fold up again. And a fanfold foam experimental wing of bygone days (Zumi, I called it) has new life in it as well. It has a Just Go Fly 300DF motor (1700kv) and wingspan of about 24" . I'll try to get a picture of them up soon. AJ, I should have both ready for Sunday along with the yeller SS and the repaired Poohdius....if you're available....

Tim thanks for the pics, got it in my head now. Your Swift² stories make me want a wing. I have some pieces in the scrap pile that I'm planning on using for a new wing build as soon as I get an afternoon free, maybe today.

I have a very slightly used motor that needs some help, too. You 'member that Twist from a few pages ago. Motor had three whole flights on it. Now it is just like Cal's, jumps around, won't spin. It was a strong motor, too. I think I'll just order a new one from the Forbidden Place instead of hassling Kate with the rewind job. A $20 motor is hardly worth the trouble. See yall tomorrow night. Goin' truckin' to Orlando! Sray, I'll be in the 'hood around 3PM. But before we get together again, you need to scout out a new parking place for my large unit. [;)]

RE: Badius Owners Club III
Brown Shorts found my house today. Miracles never cease. Ever since changing my addy because 9-1-1 said they couldn't find my location in their system, nobody can find me. Wifey does alot of bill paying online. Every time she sets up an account, they ask for addy, then next page says our addy is non-existent. So I went out to the mailbox today and reinstalled the driveway marker that has our old house numbers on it. Now we have two addresses. Let THEM figure it out. Anyway, told you that to tell you this. Got a BIG box from UPS today. A very nice looking SSX! WooHoo! and some goodies that I believe were stuck in there after purchase. Can't say what. It's a secret. Thank you GG. Thanks, Scott. But what, pray tell, am I to do with the Canadian flag sticker???[sm=confused.gif][sm=idea.gif] AJ, I hope to have it flying by our next gathering. Mine has the red wing. Perfect. It was great seeing that vid of the night flight Nasty. I was L-ing-O-L. Who are those crazy guys??

RE: Badius Owners Club III
Cal, let's see some pics of the wing you want to mount that 2900kv motor on. I built a few flat foam jets (pushers) and used zip ties around the motor can and down through a small piece of plywood glued to the rear deck as a solid platform for the motor to sit on. I was running 4½" props on mine and it literally was a screamer. And fast, too. But those little props and high kv motors sure do use up the amps! I believe I was running 25-30A on an 11 oz flat foam jet. I gotta have a wing. I lodged the Stryker in another treetop this morning. The .22 came out again and I shot off the branch it was sitting on way up in the very tippy top of the tree, but it just laid over on all the other branches still at the top of the tree. So, out comes the heavy equipment. Had to use the tractor bucket to push on the tree hard enough to shake the Stryker down. It lodged again about 18' up. I grabbed a dead branch that was j-u-s-t barely long enough to tap the bottom of the plane. Why is that always the case? Another couple inches and it would have been a breeze. But noooo..... I finally got it to the ground. I am giving up on this old Stryker. Seems it just got too heavy over the years of adding repairs. So it goes in the parts pile (which is getting larger these days) and I'm gonna start fresh with a new mugi. Maybe paint it up to resemble a B-2. I need a good flying day.

Thanks for the repair tips but I have already decided it was far beyond fixing up. The video didn't show the full extent of damage. There was splintered fiberglass out to both wingtips and the motor and nose fell off when I brought it in the house tonight. If I have learned one lesson from this it is this. I won't be buying any fiberglass planes any time soon. Foam and Badius plastic fuses for me. here's some pictures...

RE: Badius Owners Club III
Home again, home again, jiggity-jig. Had a great time as usual flying with AJ. What a field!!! Abandoned airports make perfect flying fields. Who knew? Bad news on the Twist. This was the third flight on it and the thing was flying marvelously. I did a few high speed passes then slowed down for some slow video passes. I proceeded into some loops, etc. On about the second consecutive loop, about 10' off the deck, I think one of the elevon servos popped loose from it's mounting inside the wing because all of a sudden, coming up from the bottom of a loop, it veered hard right like I gave it full right stick. It continued a corkscrew motion right into the pavement. All in the blink of an eye. I really don't think there is any repairing this wing. The whole thing feels 'mushy' for lack of a better word. The main wood spar broke right in the center and the two clam shell halves have split most of the way around. The nose/motor mount area is only hanging on by a few fiber threads. Cracks and breaks from one end to the other. The yeller SS is a great success. As is the new wing on the old Poohdius. I did crack the building quite hard and knocked the motor mount loose on the Poohdius but that was the only damage. Gotta love those Badius fuselages. The Poohdius was flying better than ever. Very fast with the last of the secret props (AJ gave me another handful but I had to give him the magazine to my .22 rifle). I was doing laps around the paved area we were standing in, throwing it into a near vertical bank on each corner and just goofing off at LOW altitude when I skipped her off the pavement. I was shocked that it hit the ground and stood there with my thumb up...well, you know....and watched it fly straight into the little building. I could have easily pulled just a slight bit of up elevator and it would have sailed right over the roof of said building. Hmmm. Rusty thumbs, I guess. Old timer's, too. I took a bunch of stills I'll post later. I anxiously await AJ's vid. He captured the crash of the Twist very well. I want to see what you guys think happened. Or do I?[8|]
